Hooray! A Downside episode for my commute! I love forgetting when these come out because I'm always so excited to have it on my way to work. Just in time, too!
this came out just in time for me to continue to stay up into the morning "making art" aka considering art aka studying art aka watching RU-vid videos about art aka comedy is art and Gianmarco Soresi is an artist so I am studying him for inspiration aka watching The Downside in bed eating ice cream 😅😅 hope you have a fine day at work!! 💞
I went to an IB school in the US and my understanding is that the curriculum is lead by the IBO (organisation) with a headquater in Swizerland. We didn't have many students changing school during the semester. So I think the main purpose is to have high achademic standards available in any country which also allows you to go to university with an IB diploma in most countries without taking extra application tests. In Germany for example if you have the right combination of IB courses and grades, you are accepted with allgemeine Hochschulreife by the local Regierungspräsidium. I don't recommend parents to move their kids around though. They seem fine, but it really messes with you in a way that manifests later in life. Great to have her on the pod :)
Yeah the IBO runs a school curriculum across all levels of schooling, primarily aimed at international schools, but some local schools use it too. There's the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP) for ages 3-12 and 11-16, respectively. But what people _usually_ mean when they say "the IB" is the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, or IBDP, which is their curriculum for your final 2 years of school (ages 16-18, typically). IBDP is _particularly_ popular in higher-achieving schools because it's an infamously difficult programme that produces very well-rounded students, since you're forced to do a wide variety of subjects instead of only doing sciences or only doing arts, and you're required to do a variety extracurriculars under Creativity, Action, and Service.
Fantastic episode, I’ve loved Laura’s humor for a long time. Gone are the days that people openly identify with mainstream musicals like High School Musical and be proud of it.
Something the US does very well is public libraries. I have found most of the developed Western world does not have anywhere near the extensive network of libraries we have, and nowhere near the type of collections we have here. It’s an odd thing, but I lived in Paris for a year and was truly shocked that they had so few libraries with such a small inventory.
@@KristineMaitland I’ll have to visit one of these days and take a look. I absolutely adore Montreal and Canada is indeed a nice mix of what I love about Europe and what I appreciate about North America. However, having lived many years in New York, I doubt almost any city could rival the New York library system.
My great gramps got a job as an architect in Mexico in 1930 and he just never went back to Germany. He sent for his ex-wife and their daughter and just never spoke about it again.
Eh, I'm not sure about any Sicilian pictured with Mussolini. My grandparents lived in sicily during ww2 and Sicilians in general were very anti-Mussolini. Near the end of ww2, my Nonno was conscripted into the military and promptly deserted as soon as the US landed. He got an Italian Military pension to the day he died though. If anyone brought up Mussolini, his response was always that he was "sick in the head!" 😂
Thats so funnny they said she was like the Donald Trump of middle school, because when she said some of the seniors did not apologize, she sounded like Trump 😂😂😂
loved this episode, have always enjoyed Laura's videos and this combo was so fun! I also second Laura's rec for taking the smaller flight into toronto (Billy Bishop Airport) since no one likes to mention that our international airport is technically in another city 😅
forgive me for being sarcastic, but i love gianmarco being like wow yoga was just a church by a different name gee, can we all put on our thinking caps and find a reason why yoga might be very similar to a religion? anybody?
Nah, once you learn to learn a language (what to look for, what to expect, what to pay attention to), learning more languages becomes increasingly easier, especially if they're related like most European languages.
your theatricality, Gianmarco, really makes you stand out. Laura is right. It's the path you look back and say was just a resentment inducing waste of time, but it was a stepping stone in your journey to really hone your uniqueness and make you stand out amongst others, rather than 4 years to get noticed in some classes or get some degree.
YESSSSS!!! Love this collab!!! Every time Gianmarco has italians on the podcast, I feel we (italian) and him get closer! Edit. Forgot to say Laura is hysterical! Love her!
