Recorded in January 2015 at St John's Smith Square. Audio by Declan Zapala. Video by Jon Fairey. With thanks to the St John's Smith Square Young Artists Programme
A most sensitive and interesting performance; in the late 1970s, I had the honour to meet Sir Lennox when he visited his "Aunt" Miss Jackson at Boar's Hill in the house where he was born and where I was then living. I hope to hear/see you perform more.
Such dexterous hands ! they work magic in producing these sounds. She really inhabits the music and dances it out. And, to me, the Bream element is this and also her totally fluid apoyando
Hi Laura, I saw you live in Worcester a little while ago. This video is a wonderful reminder of your accuracy, power, and interpretation of great music. Thank you Andy
What I like so much is that this is not actually my favourite piece of music, but you played it so well that I actually have come to love this rendition!
You are really fantastic Laura ! I love all the detail you put into your dynamics, phrasing and tonal nuances ! Very profound and you always make the most of whatever piece you play !!!Sounds very inspired ! So nice to find out about your art ! All the best , Marc
Hurrah Laura, so crispy and rythymic! My first big "grownup piece" beyond the Villa Lobos preludes....first heard on a Julian Bream album..... Jeezus Gurl, it sounds like a different instrumet doing the Slowdagio part....Oboe like.... Gawd, 11;16 you kill it.....BRAVO!
For me, what an intro to the music of Sir Lennox. Hope to find his compositions for the guitar--Quatre pièces pour la guitare (1928), Sonatina, Op. 52, No. 1 (1957), Theme and Variations, Op. 77 (1970). Thanks Ms. Snowden
Energy, conviction, and apparent ease. No pussyfooting, no mannerism, fast but not strained. This is very good. You are doing something new, personal and inspired with this piece in my opinion. Congrats for the achievement. You look happy as you play: I hope you get many occasions. All the best.
Wonderful playing! A lovely piece! Well done... I’m a friend of Andrew York; have you performed any of his works? I also am a composer-jazz pianist. I wrote a piece commissioned by Gregg Nestor called “Introspections, Music For Two Classical Guitars”! This three-movement piece won the American Prize, Chamber Music Division In 2013. It was recorded by Gregg and Ray Burley (from England) and is on Cambria Records with transcriptions of works by Poulenc, Rosza, Debussy, Turina and Beaulieu. Interestingly, my piece is the only one on the record-entitled “Kaleidoscope”-written exclusively for two guitars. Again, let me state how much I enjoyed this performance and this piece! You are a consummate artist! 🎼👍🥰
This is so good! My guitar professor told me to " quit playing like a girl" once and this performance is the first thing I thought of...(after my ego-bruise healed a bit)
I've played this piece for years and your version, I can say from experience, is amazing. You might be interested to play some Dodgson. Wish you all the best.
I saw her play a couple of years ago - absolutely spellbinding. Her dynamics are incredible - she did this ppp things where you just hear the left hand. I think she's the best out there right now...Bream's successor.
Even the mimicry (especially the eyebrows) has a touch of Maestro Bream about it! But surely this sophisticated performance deserves his smile from above...
I play and approach this piece very different in today’s culture a I feel triplets should be played as triplets not smears. Very nice playing none the less.
In this video there was an excellent guitar sound that i like to listen, plus there was an excellent technic and nuance, but the music that you played was not my tybe, however, i listened to it till the end. Of course, i prefer Bach guitar transcriptions, Barrios, Aguado, Scarlatti, Lauro , Tarrega, and many others. But as i said in the beginning of my comment, you are a giant artist.
