Since I watched The Typewriter for the first time on RU-vid a few weeks ago, RU-vid has offered me dozens of versions, and this is one of the best. The typewritist played sharply and precisely at one of the most brisk tempos I heard. I even had to check that I didn't have the playback speed set at 1.25 or 1.5
"The Typewriter" cannot be underestimated. The fact is that this particular "light concert piece" really is not as easy to perform as it may seem. It's not just for the rhythm flow, speed and keeping on the beat, but also that, while only two keys are required to tap throughout the composition, the likelihood of the type hammer arms jamming (as real typewriters are usually used) may be common. Which is why percussionists are best suited to "pull-off" this work well in its presentation due to their wrist flexibility, dexterity and coordination. (Composer Leroy Anderson even admitted to this fact. But then again, anybody reading this would have to be "old-school" in order to truly understand about those fandangled manual writing machines of the past.) What may appear as construed for a simple rendering of something may actually be far more complex than it seems. And Laura Trompetter did her agility to the execution of the number greatly, right down to the stereotypical secretary's business attire and on-the-job priming behavior as an added humorous bonus touch.
