I can understand where the comparisons to 2002 would come from, but a similar concept does not equal a similar song. Nothing about these two songs are the same. One is pop, one is country. One is set in the 2000s , the other the 90s. One is an anthemic feel-good song, and the other is a love song. They're both great songs, but comparing them is as ridiculous as comparing Express Yourself and Born This Way. It's an excuse to pit two powerful and ground breaking women against each other when they should both be celebrated for keeping this wonderful flame of nostalgia burning, especially during times when all the world needs is a little more joy. 💕

Also, 2002 is incorrect, cause there are songs mentioned in that song that are not from 2002. I can see the similarity between this song and 1999, but 1999 was released 10 days before Lauren's song so I doubt she got inspired by that song. The 90's sentiment is very strong nowadays, so it's not that weird that people write songs about it.

I was never a huge fan of Lauren Alaina, but this is a great song. Being a 98 baby, I can say that ladies kicked ass on Country radio. As a young boy of four or five, I was always listening to the Country station; and I'd go nuts any time they played a female artist like Sara Evans or Martina McBride. You never hear any of that good stuff on the radio today, and especially not those women who paved the way for Country music.
