"In my huge city" This is a poem written by one of the biggest female poets in Russia Marina Tsvetaeva (1892-1941). Her poems are very complicated and have a lot of meanings. This one is part of a cycle of 11 poems called Insomnia, it is the second poem of the cycle. She wrote this when she was suffering from insomnia, she generally did not like her life during the day and she could not sleep during the night but in that half asleep - half awake dream like state walking at night through a big city she found a certain beauty and that is what she explores and analyzes in this poem. Diana managed to catch the essence of that 'night walking - dreamlike, intoxicating state' with her voice and pass it on to the listeners, another great piece of music has been born between Marina's words, Brandon's music and Diana's voice.

Brandon Stone composed this superb song for Diana. It sets a poem that was written in 1916 by one of Russia's greatest poets, Marina Tsvetaeva. Marina was a very troubled and tragic figure. The poem is about alienation not just from the world but from one's own self. Diana's performance is especially poignant because in 1919, only three years after writing the poem, Marina had placed her two daughters into a state orphanage where, a year later in 1920, one of them - Irina, the namesake of Diana's adoptive mother - was to die of starvation. This catastrophe was one of several that punctuated Marian's life at fairly regular intervals. In the end she committed suicide.

The background of the song is essential to know. The title of the song is "Ornery (or "Fastidious" or "Finicky") Horses". The song has nothing to do with horses in reality - the horses are being used as a metaphor for life. I believe this is an adaption of a well known Russian poetess's work (Marina Tsvetaeva) written about 100 years ago. She was suffering from insomnia at the time and wrote several poems about her experience. Diana sang another of her poems put to music on the Masked Singer in early 2023 which was a beautiful performance. Marina Tsvetaeva wrote the poem "In a huge city" back in 1916 after breaking off relations with her beloved Sofia Boyuk and returning to her husband and daughter. It was a period of depression, mental emptiness and insomnia in a huge city. Very modern, isn't it? The poetess explained her unusual connection very simply and succinctly. She said that love between women is wild, and loving only men is very boring. But she called her relationship with Sofia "the first disaster in her life." The rhythm of the song resembles the steps of a lonely, insomniac woman in a deserted nighttime huge city. Diana and Brandon brilliantly conveyed the state of mind of the poetess at that time. Definitely, Diana is an extraordinary pop singer. She creates her own genre - it's super emotional singing and spiritual contact with each viewer through her voice. I love this song. This song was sculpted out of 100 year old Russian poetry...about dealing with insomnia. It's an observational portrait. Diana makes my mind wander too. It always takes me places I'm really not expecting at times. It's almost creepy...but enjoyable, if that makes any sense at all. Enjoyed your video.

It is an incredible artistic expression that creates a lucid interpretation of the profound lyrics that were expressed by the author.
