I cant get my 7 week old to lift his during tummy time at all. He also will only turn his head to the left only and than leave it there. He screams and cries during tummy time and looks frustrated. He tries to turn his head and track toys but cant and than that's when he gets upset. Im really concerned. I hope he doesn't have something wrong with him.
Don’t worry! That’s completely normal for a 7 week old. Their heads are very heavy compared to the rest of their body. Pair that with very little muscles, it’s hard work for newborn to lift their head. It’s completely normal to not be lifting the head yet at 7 weeks old. And it’s even more normal for him to get frustrated and cry. It’s a feeling of helplessness, not having very much strength and motor control yet. Wanting so bad to move around and get off your stomach, but you can’t. You can’t do anything but lay there and you’re confused and just want to move. It can be very frustrating for a baby. We all know that babies cry at the drop of a hat, but this really is distressing for them so it’s completely normal for them to cry:) Your babies probably around 1 year old now, so I’m not sure if you still do tummy time. But if you do, try gently pressing on his back. This helps them lift their head, because as I said their heads are very heavy compared to their body’s and pushing on his back will help evenly distribute the weight of his head making it easier for him to lift his head while still having to use the same amount of strength. I hope all is well for your baby! I’m sure you would’ve found out if he’s ok by now, but just know that your baby’s reaction is expected and beyond normal:)
Is that a lot of hair in the back of his head?! Wow. I also want to mention that I hear the cat purring in the back ground. I always remind new parents to not forget about your first babies. Fur babies that is. We learn to much or at least I did. Patience and growth and remembering to feed them and care for them in all aspects. But our animals are just amazing and they are part of the family just as much as a new born. Well a big difference but in the home we are a family and we look out for each other and care for one another. And live each and every day with that being said it's just special don't you think. I feel a lot of people forget about there pets when baby is home. Then you see them in the back ground of pictures and there sad and lonely and wondering what they did wrong to be traded in. And don't get the attention they once had.
