Thanks for reacting to this! Warning: Pay attention to the post-credit scenes in some chapters. I'll give you some clarifications just from this chapter: The green light that illuminates Momonga every time he gets excited is a kind of "emotional inhibitor" that he obtained by becoming undead and that returns him to a calm state every time he is about to lose control. In the Yggdrasil game one could get a base if their Guild reached a certain size and they even allowed them to customize their defensive NPCs. There were all kinds, although the protagonist only mentions one in the novel that had the theme of cats. The protagonist's Guild was designed around the Dungeons & Dragons theme, which is the source of inspiration for almost all of Overlord. Naturally, since teleportation magic existed, the protagonist and his guild almost always appeared in specific places and didn't interact much with NPCs after designing them. That is why he does not remember very well which were the pre-programmed orders that controlled them. Albedo's creator was an obsessed gamer who loved Gap Moe, that is, the "contradiction of appearance and behavior". Albedo is designed to look like a goddess and even her name means whiteness, but in reality she must be someone quite evil and in the final line it was added that she "she is a nymphomaniac". Momonga modified this thankfully. In the world of the protagonist (a dystopian future) there are many laws for virtual reality. For example: At least 2 of the 5 senses must be blocked or reduced so that no one gets carried away and confuses fiction with reality, that's why Ainz is so surprised that Albedo has smell and body heat, because those are always the senses blocked in video games. Also, when he... touches her, he does it because in his country there are many public moral restrictions and one is not supposed to do anything perverted without an alert being given to the authorities. If he were to stay in a game, even if the admins don't want him out, the government would find out that he had done an out-of-bounds action and raise an alarm. In the Ygdrassil game, the account of the player who tried to go too far was deleted and his name was published on a kind of digital wall so that everyone knew. (Super strict!) Ainz is quite cautious and takes the scepter to the arena to test its magic, because if it doesn't work he can tell that the scepter isn't working right and the NPCs won't find out that he is defenseless. There are still 2 Floor Guardians that have not been shown. This is because they have somewhat dangerous characteristics and Ainz doesn't want to risk seeing them until he is sure of the NPCs' allegiance. The Great Tomb of Nazarick was originally a dungeon conquered by the Guild of Ainz Ooal Gown, who rebuilt it when they made it their base. It has a total of 10 floors and is full of traps that become more deadly as they descend, waiting for any invader off guard. The first 3 floors are Catacombs, where several dozen undead roamed in the dark and are protected by the vampire Shalltear. The fourth floor is an underground lake and It is protected by a Guardian named Gargantua, who has only been mentioned. The Fifth Floor is a wide area filled with numerous icebergs and It is protected by Cocytus. The sixth floor is a Jungle that is actually underground, but it doesn't look like it because one of the guild members went to great lengths to design a digital sky that was as realistic as possible. That's where the Amphitheater is, too, and the guardians are the dark elf twins. The seventh floor This floor is an area filled with crimson lava that flows like a river and looks like hell. That's why the demon Demiurge is the guardian The eighth floor is the most mysterious of all and we don't know much about it even in the novels. But we know that no invader of Yggdrassil ever managed to overcome it. It is protected by a guardian named Victim. The ninth floor is the place where the Guild members lived and interacted and has many different areas. One of them was the Round Table where they had their meetings. It was protected by the butler Sebastian and the Battle Maids. The tenth floor is the Throne Room where the Guild members would gather to face the invaders in the last battle, although this never happened because no one made it that far. It is protected by Albedo. There is one more place, but it is separated from the rest and talking about it in the first chapter would be a spoiler. I hope this information has served to understand some things.

7:40 his full name is Sebas Tian because in anime butlers often are named Sebastian. I don't remember if his full name is ever mentioned in the anime. I only know it from the books. 11:30 Albedo is a succubus so it is love and lust i guess. 14:20 DPS means Damage per second There is a lot that is skipped from the books. One thing is that Momonga prepared an entire army of golems hidden in the Arena, because he was not sure if the Twins were loyal to him or not. He wanted to use them to buy himself time to escape in case they were hostile as they are both individual at the same power level as him (LVL 100) and he knows he can probably not beat them alone without major sacrifices. All the guardians that show up in the arena (including Sebas) are at that power level. I hope you enjoy the show. I liked it so much that i bought the books, wich have cool illustrations and basic infos to the characters. The books even exist as english audiobooks by now.

Man the English dub is so good. Chris Chuero who voices the main character is a absolute genius of it comes to his range. It fits so well and the whiplash between his Einz voice and narater/inner voice is brilliantly done.

if you can read the subtitles comfortably I would definitely recommend the sub version over the dub, while the dub isn't that bad the original Voice actors really knew what role and emotion to express giving the chericters much more depth without changing the script much, altho a few lines were changes from the sub to dub mostly dealing with jokes and humor.

Overlord has character sheets, and they actually look more inspired on D&D in the way they handle stats and skills by races and classes

If I can propose a series to watch, you should react to '86'. It's a great show with great charactets and action. Very memorable, too. I especially would love Kit to react to it, considering he was in the military.

The albedo thing isn’t that big a deal but it does get a bit weird at least one other time that I remember. And they will reference the NPC’s memories before bone daddy gets stuck in the game

The anime is good but i highly reccomend the novels if you are interested (fantranslations specifically are much more detailed than the official ones). The worldbuilding is so good and character writing has so much detail. One of my favourite fanatasy novel series for sure

DPS= Damage Per Second, Damage Per Strike or shot. A common term in MMORPGs and RPG games alike (Massive multiplayer online role-playing games.) Popular ones like: the Elder Scrolls (all of them), Fallout(all of them), World of Warcraft, Destiny 1 and 2, etc. Honestly any game that let's you create "builds" (what your character is good at and how certain perks will increase/decrease Damage output and resilience.) Don't worry if you're not really getting all the lingo. It's kinds like a second language so it takes a MINUTE to understand all the nuances of this community and world. But that's the long and short of it..

Honestly, This is one of my all time, favorite anime.

Somethings not explicitly said in the anime, but you should understand early on to avoid confusion: 1) They arent in the game anymore. Basically everything that was in the Tomb at midnight when the servers shut down were transported into another real world and became 'alive' as they existed in the game. 2) Practically all the NPC's from the tomb were designed and created by the actual Players as part of the original game...hence the guildmembers are considered their 'gods' or their creators. 3) A lot of the NPC's were created tounge-in-cheek with some kind of internal joke...like based on a fetish or 'most evil it could possibly be' or 'most honorable warrior'. So be ready for anything. Also, I suggest you give the subbed version a try, I prefer the voice acting in the Japanese version.

We have a D&D npc who, just like you, I cannot remember the actual name of. We all, DM included, refer to him as Uber Eats due to the first time we met him, he was delivering a sandwich to someone's home. He may or may not be a high level vampire hunter, we're not sure yet. Hoping for not as we have to kill the Vampire hunter as tasked to us by the BBEG. Why are we working for him you ask? Play Curse of Strahd with a good dm and you'll understand. Strahd honestly a vibin dude.

i love watching people react to stuff i like, and im well aware copyright is a huge problem but people is getting worse at covering up the video, and they dont even show the full vid, at times its even only the audio, ive seen people do reacts with just adding a dark trnaslucid sheet over the video, which lets you see the video perfectly but its enough to save them from copyright

Albeto's personality is a big part of her character but a relatively minor part of the show if she's not on screen. There's plenty of other equally if not more fuged shite later when it's implied the subordinates started a human farm off screen without telling Ainze and use cannibalism for population control.

Sebas is sort of play on Sebastian... Many Japanese mangas and animes have this cliché of a butler named Sebastian who is REALLY badass!

Luckily the beats with the chick's lusting over him are pretty limited and he almost always dismisses the weird advances. I love this series and have read it for years, the way the anime gone has left quite a bit out, but is a very fun adaptation! If you do not want to read, a wonderful channel called AniNews covers what the anime does not, so after each season you can check out more lore and information about the world before moving on; it would be very helpful to you!

Now day's dub is always good. Besides it's easyer for non English speakers, like myself, English is only 3rd language i know and I don't read it fast.

I think it's up to you guys and you shouldn't be pressured to do one or the other, I myself prefer dub cause I can't read and keep track of a lot of stuff happening at the same time. On another note it's awesome to see reactions to not as popular anime that are still kind mainstream. I will look forward to watching this series alongside Lauren as I only ever watched the first episode myself. It might be a bit though since I need to finish One Piece, and hope one day to see Chicago Reacts watch "The Big Three" as well. I wonder if any of the less talked about gems will ever show up? Like Fooly Cooly or Cowboy Bebop or Rosario Vampire or The World Only God Knows? Stuff like that. Sorry if it seems like I'm all over the place, I don't typically watch these due to spoilers so I'm kinda just enjoying the feeling and speculating!

Depends on what you like both versions are perfectly fine. Just depends on if you want to try to read and watch at the same time.

DPS is short for Damage Per Second. But it's awesome you're watching Overlord, it's a fun anime to watch. As for the Dub vs Sub it's up to you. I personally like both and the Albedo thing is just a running gag so don't need to worry to much about it.

This is one of the few anime that I actually prefer the English dub because I love the voice actor for Ainz he's such a cool dude and I enjoyed the work he did in DBZ abridged.

even as a sub elitist I will admit the dub is fairly good, no complaints if you want to watch it that way because overlord has a lot of details hidden in quick dialogue. That being said, especially this being a (dark) comedy, the original sub will always be better, and overall Overlord sub has some of the best voice acting I've heard.

You really should watch the subtitles version with original Japanese voice acting. The dubbed version misses a lot of the correct emotional voice intonations and it sounds infinitely better. The first conversation you hear in the show had a lot more dialogue than simply saying goodbye.

What is middle school?

Personally I prefer subed version above dub, as I feel that dubs most of the time "lose" intent. For example sometimes the dub version sounds arrogant, where the original character just states facts in a more neutral way. However it's always a personal choice. Regarding the "lust" moment of Albedo, well she IS a succubus, love is more physical for that species. Suggestions for the future would be: Saga of Tanya the evil (Yōjo Senki), Log Horizon, The Irregular at Magic High School (Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei), Code Geass, Full metal panic, the fate universe (Fate stay night, Fate: Zero and all the others, massive franchise) or Gate: Jieitai Kano Chi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri. I can also recommend the old Gundam series Gundam Wing, old school, but a good story and character development. However Gundam as well as Code Geass and Full metal panic are Mecha animes and not everybody likes Mecha. Gundam is set in a near future, while Code Geass plays in an alternate timeline where the british were defeated by napoleon and fled to america, meanwhile Full metal panic is set in a perpetual cold war setting, where the main character is part of a mercenary organisation that practically is the world police, rescueing hostages, escorting nuclear arsenal, ensuring weapon embargo, and stuff like that, at times very serious and at other times very stupidly hillarious, as the main character has not one bit of common sense. Log Horizon is of the same virtual mmo genre, as Sword art online, Overlord and many many more. Saga of Tanya the evil is about a japanese HR person getting Isekaied in an alternate world and forced to pray to some self proclaimed God, which the MC hates, much darker than many others but still it has dark humor in it. Mahouka is about a future where because of global warming and resource scarcity WW III happened and magic was born which stoped the thermo nuclear winter from happening, if I recall correctly the story is like 30? years after the war or something like that and follows an irregular mage, who as the name said is enrolled at a high school in japan, mostly a story about finding an alternative way of live instead of following what was decided for him. The Fate universe is basically about a secret war for the holy grail, between magicians that summon legendary superhuman/mythological figures to fight for them and share the spoil (the grail and it's wish granting powers), the so called servants (summoned spirits) are divided in the following classes, each class can only be summoned once in each grail war, Saber, Archer, Lancer, Berserker, Rider, Caster, Assasin, in Fate Grand Order the classes Ruler and Shielder were added if I remember correctly. Many characters look nearly identical (for example the Saber, I won't spoil which legendary character it is, from Fate stay night has multiple other characters that look identical) since the original author was not that great at painting if I recall and he didn't want to change the designs or something like that, so bear that in mind and don't be surprised. Gate: Jieitai Kano Chi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri, is about a fantasy roman like empire that opened up a gate into the heart of modern japan and forcing a military response, very comedic in nature and so so so so so many references to other animes and movies, for example Fate references, Apocalypse now and many other.

As a general rule for anime, never do dubs.

I recommend watching the series with subtitles 😅 the dubbing leaves a lot to be desired, since in too many parts the voices are very short compared to the original audio when it comes to expressiveness, because yes, the dubbing tends to be heard very flat so to speak , that is, without grace in many moments (not to mention that some dialogues are poorly adapted in the dubbing and some voices do not match the characters at all)

Just stick with the dub.

The sub vs dub argument is pointless. Do what you prefer. At the end of the day it is personal preference.

Why would you want to listen to the community? Do whatever makes you enjoy the show more. If you listen to the toxic anime community, especially between subs and dubs, you'll just slowly but surely become toxicated yourself. You are the one reacting, so you decide however you wanna
