Joshua McDowell yes he turned down the role multiple times because of how biased it portrayed Ike. The script is very inaccurate and the film is only loosely based on Tina's book so the writers had creative freedom to fabricate scenes like the rape scene and cake scene never happened in real life. He finally accepted the role when Angela Bassett signed on to portray Tina.

That's a testament to his versatility as an actor. While some actors essentially play the "same person" in every movie or show, Fishburne easily plays characters who are as different as night and day.

Reminds me of David Straitharn who played Meryl Streep's rather wimpy husband in "The River Wild" and then he played Kathy Bates' abusive husband in "Dolores Claiborne."

Yeah, he did play the character of Ike very well but I didn't like Ike Turner because he was beating up Tina, I liked Laurence Fishburne better as Morpheus from The Matrix and the Pigeon guy from John Wick because those guys are the good guys not abusive guys.

The main reason is Fishburne was far more attractive than the real-life Ike Turner. Also, Fishburne portrayed Ike in an unintentionally humorous sort of way, which made his performance as equally comical as it was dramatically impressive. Thus, it makes the actor very likeable.

Well the movie is disrespectful too seeing as that part never really happened in real life. That part was just added to the movie. Tina saidmit herself.

Tina said something did happen with a cake but not as they portrayed it in the film, Tina said she wanted more truth , amazing as it looked bad enough, poor Tina how much worse was it ???

it was a famous line out of a legendary movie of course they will reference it. we don't even know if the real Ike even said that too the real Tina and if so who cares?

Lu Sir oh stop it now! that line could have been used in any movie . Eat the cake Anna May does not have a threatening tone. The scene was about domestic abuse but that line does not promote or make light of domestic abuse. try and find a better cause will you.

Exactly! I have a fan page dedicated to Beyonce and I love her and I'm not really mad at her or have any bitterness towards her cause she's not the one who said it but I'm a HUGE fan of Tina Turner! She's #1 in my eyes! I was actually offended by that line in the song! Ppl said well he was referring to oral sex but I don't care! Jay Z should of not said that! It would of been a little better if he said "Eat the cake Beyonce"! But either way.. He took a quote from a movie about domestic abuse and turned it into something sexual! I'm bitter about that! You used the word criticism quite a bit in your post but you didn't pin point the "constructive" part because when it comes to Beyonce/Beyhive there is no constructive criticism. That means he played his role well. Ike in reality was truly an evil man who exploited Tina to support his drug addictions. Causing some serious pain for Tina. Physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Laurence Fishburne did not make Ike Turner look bad. Laurence did not write the script. He did his job. Which was to bring the script to life through his acting abilities. He is a very skilled and talented actor.

He didn’t make him look bad he didn’t write the script he did what he was suppose to do he actually turned down the part multiple times
