Saw him live at the 2012 First Piatigorsky in LA. One of the highlights of my life!! I learned that I knew more about music than I was aware of. I got my first 'cello just before that, in my 70th year.

Staying on this subject of LIVE SOUND and MICROPHONES. Acoustic guitarist have amplified for decades. Why not amp cello in a classical setting? Ok, you want something a bit more discrete? WIRELESS MIC behind the tailpiece. Speakers hiding offstage. A REALLY GOOD SOUNDMAN MIXING! It's PURE AWESOMENESS!!

Lisen up folks, Will we ever learn? AMP THE CELLO! HELLO!!! No seriously, most of the nuance is being lost due to a volume deficient. Too Much Piano, Too Little Cello. Sound familiar? Enter technology. Mic, Pick-up, Preamp, Amp, then WIN!! Vids to come BTW Lesser ROCKS!!

I wish the camera operator were a string player. We need to be shown the things of interest: focus on the left hand would be a basic, but we get a distant vantage point and a pretty useless 45 degree angle view. Never heard of a close-up? Excellent performance overall but awful camera work.

Although the piano dominated this recording due to poor audio setup, this rendition of the piece was one of the most lifeless performances I've ever heard. Do these women not understand that music is far more than just a bunch of dots on a page?
