The video consists of a creative and interdiscursive paraphrase, involving the concept of bricolage. It is based, as a work of art, on the dialogical relationship between 1) the author and his subjectivity (times, places and memories, alluded to through images, 2) the musical composition and its characteristics and 3) the interpretation of music (with its unique and non-transferable nature). Such interdiscursivity does not occur in the typical and most common level of verbal language, if not in a secondary way, involving photography and musical sound stimuli, which are interconnected and constitute, by the massive combination of various elements (the various images and sonorous and interdiscursive stimulus), a bricolage. The video, on the other hand, can be considered an imagery interpretation of classical music.

Wow! Best version... by FAR!! These folks actually ruined the other versions for me and I can't listen to them without nitpicking. This version appears not to be available on my app of 'choice': Amazon Music. I see another comment saying this is not on the other music apps either. Makes having this ad-free version available here on RU-vid for us mere mortals an act of grace. Thank you for being the agent 🙏

In my mind, this is, by far, the most satisfying and rewarding performance of this piece. It has disappeared from Apple Music and Spotify. I wonder why. Does anyone know the answer? What I love in this performance is the sense of vastness, expanse, and transcendence. Even with such a large choir, it sounds plaintive and humble. I really love it and hope it doesn’t disappear from RU-vid!

I know this work well, and this is the finest performance of it that I have found so far. Sublime, and a great comfort at a time of so much loss.

It might interest you to know that this premier performance was by the conductor and group for which it was actually written. Lauridsen was the Composer-in-Residence to the Los Angeles Master Chorale under the direction of Paul Salamunovich. He wrote it with Salamunovich's excellence in interpreting Gregorian chant as the foundation. The piece carries a dedication above the title in the score to Paul and the LAMC. While this piece has become the most performed contemporary classical piece around the world in the years since it was written, it's genesis as being written for this group, will forever serve as the blueprint example for its most authentic performances... to future generations.

Salamunovich was an amazing wonderful artistic director. Nobody could have done this as well as he did with the LA Master Chorale. Too bad LA Master Chorale's management treated him so poorly at the end of his tenure. I worked with him on the board for Angeles Chorale that following year, and what a fascinating, creative man he was.
