Here is the second part of artist Laurin McCracken's video praising Fabriano Watercolor Paper. In it, he shares examples of his realist watercolor paintings and the features he was able to attain due to the quality of the paper. Informative and inspiring instruction from a master!
Laurin McCracken is a realist watercolorist whose work is largely influenced by the Dutch and Flemish still-life painters of the 16th and 17th centuries.
(This video also contains Part 1! Part 2 begins at 15:07.)

Thank you for this! I love soft press, it’s so absorbent and can look like velvet. People raise their eyebrows at me. It’s ok. More paper for me! 🥰

I see Fabriano hot press, cold press, and rough - but I don't see any Fabriano Artistico paper labeled as "soft press." Is the Fabriano Artistico cold press also the "soft press"? Thanks.

Thank you so much for this wonderful explanation of watercolor papers. I usually use cold-press however, I am now wanting to try this soft-press paper as I like to really work my painting. This was a wonderful explanation of types of paper which is hard to find this much information on them. Cudos! I love your paintings as well.

Hi, Thank you for your information on the videos. I am a watercolor and pastel artist and I used Fabriano cold pressed for my watercolor paintings but I wish to combine with pastels too, still experimenting but I still need to find the right paper. Could you please guide me where to purchase the "soft pressed paper" as I am sure this will be ideal for my painting techniques. I live in England and have tried "Jackson's Art supplies" and "Amazon" with no luck. Thank you

A favorite. Another is Moulin de Roy, all weights, but it’s just gone from the shelves. It is Canson, but please, would you know why ;-)

Really interesting, thank you. For some reason, I never thought about choosing paper based on the texture of my subjects, though looking back, I have done that at times without recognizing the importance of the decision.

I do portraits. Is the soft press recommend for watercolor portraits?

I do portrait occasionally and use both cold and soft, for personal experience soft press is way more easy for details
