classic. I remember when this came out in 98 I was 7. This was on radio everyday for weeks and my mother brought the album the same day it came out. r.i.p mommy😍😘😢 I'm here cause of you. man I miss lauryn
It's crazy because I didn't care for the song much when it came out. I was accustomed to most songs having some kind of message (Im from the 80's and 90's). Hearing this 20+ years later hits different. Like damn her message is loud AF here in the future.
@K.B.Williams The message of the song still applies to a lot of people today it's crazy how insightful she was when she wrote this even though she was still so young.
Jesus Christ wants a personal relationship with you through the Holy Spirit, not religion and blind faith. You see, we all have sinned, and have broken God’s law (The Ten Commandments). Wrong doing deserves justice and must be punished (just like how a criminal has to pay for the crime they have committed) but God saved us from the eternal punishment of our sins by sending His Son Jesus Christ, fullness of God in flesh, a perfect, sinless sacrifice to pay the penalty for our sins by dying on the cross and resurrecting, so that we may have everlasting life. It is all finished and now for you to accept the free gift of grace, you must repent of your sins and put your faith in Jesus Christ and Bible says that His Blood will cover all of your sins, you will be forgiven, saved from eternal punishment, and be given everlasting life. By faith you will receive the Holy Spirit, become born again, know Jesus personally and He will transform your heart and clean you from the inside out. Turn away from sin, read the Bible, pray for the Holy Spirit to fill you and change you, obey the Word. Much love and God bless you!
Cali Prynce Jesus wasn't white for one.☝. for two. he died for our sins. we are undergrace. he said abolished the law so ALL foods are good. 3rd off do your research and actually read the Bible before you judge Christains or anyone for that matter.
Honestly I don’t know which side of the screen to look at more. She’s EQUALLY beautiful on both sides. Lauryn Hill has that kind of timeless beauty that would have stood out in ANY time period.
I'm a metalhead. I really wish music and music videos like this were still made. You're fucking right I was rocking this in the late 90s in my mom's trailer in the pine tree forests of North West Florida.
Ironic how I was vibing to Lauren today and saw you in the comment section lol, most definently the GOAT femcee and the most beautiful women artist I ever seen my life , she's so pure and I'm not trying to sound like a old head but this type of music won't be reincarnated ever , this one of a kind only one who will come close to this is Tink
***** u assume I dont know about Eve because we don't agree. I'm from philly just like her too aint that funny, so u think I wouldn't know nothing bout Eve? Fuck outta here
23 years later* It only got put on RU-vid 11 years ago. Crazy, right? That _one line_ holds so much weight even today! This song is a legitimate *CLASSIC!!!*
Lauryn Hill released one amazing album, and then went to go live her life. Worth making note of. But what an album! Thank you Lauren, thank you forever!
This song and now Super Freaky Girl are the only female rap solo songs in history to debut at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Congrats to both Queens!
+Jon Williams she is basically stating the most common things that both men and women go through in her community. The issues she addressed still go on today, like drugs, domestic violence and women who think they have to sell their bodies just to prove a point. Even as a Latina I have seen these things happen in my community.
+Queen of the World Facts. She's basically explaining the typical average dude or chick from around the way. Something that is so common today that the most well known reality TV shows picked up on it.
It's not underrated. The album's considered one of the best of all time, even won Grammy Album of the Year and the song itself grabbed 2 Grammys (Best Pop Vocal and Best R&B song). It's a very well known and liked song amongst pre-2000s people.
Check out her Wikipedia page to see who’s sampled her music & called her a major influence. Also, this album was just named the top streaming album by Apple; & it was just inducted into The 2024 GRAMMY Hall of Fame; & certified by the RIAA as having 10,000,000 copies.
When I was accepting my blackness I watched this music video repeatedly because I thought that black women (I'm a girl BTW) were ugly but they are not. Proof: Lauryn Hill. I am now, perfectly fine with my wide nose, big eyes, brown skin and big lips. 😊
Now sex is evil and this is upliftment. I mean, not to take away from Lauren Hill, because I couldn't if I tried, but let's be honest, puritanism isn't the biggest uplifter in the world.
@@keur2454 Klorox Bleach he said this because many people, specifically newer listeners to hip hop, heard the sample of this in Drake's Draft day. So alot of people in the comments are saying "Drake brought me here". This person's saying he's here because of Lauryn because he didn't only hear of this song because of Drake's sample, Please think before you act mate, straight embarrassed yourself for real...🤦♂️🤦♂️
Seasick Pie i didn’t t embarrass myself since people liked my comment 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ and if his comment was sarcastic then he wouldn’t have added these emojis at the end ❤️✌🏻 so yea you should also think before you speak 😯😯
@@kuhinminu5914 No longer relevant is a very strong opinion. No longer as mainstream popular seems a more fitting description. I mean, Whitney and Aretha and Patti Labelle aren't as mainstream popular as they once were but their lyrics and talent still translate well. But, that's MY opinion too.
1 of the most talented beautiful woman the world has ever seen. As we were celebrating her the people around her and the music industry were tearing her apart as they do to so many.
I see all these post about this Cardi B person. Am I the only one here who doesn’t know who that is and is just watching because I love and miss 90s music?
Lauren Hill has such a beautiful voice this industry is for professionals why i like to sing for fun and know it is not the place for me. I love working with herbs and love my full time job in the service industry. I wish everyone well who decides to go this route to me it is a young persons game. I am ready to retire in my garden. Sending love to all those who are struggling with their identity. ❤
Yo, remember back on the boogie when cats used to harmonize like Yo, my men and my women Don't forget about the dean, sirat al-mustaqim Yo, it's about a thing If ya feel real good wave your hands in the air And lick two shots in the atmosphere! It's been three weeks since you were looking for your friend The one you let hit it and never called you again 'Member when he told you he was 'bout the Benjamins? You act like you ain't hear him, then give him a little trim To begin, how you think you're really gon' pretend Like you wasn't down and you called him again? Plus, when you give it up so easy you ain't even foolin' him If you did it then, then you'd probably fuck again Talking out your neck, sayin' you're a Christian A Muslim, sleeping with the gin Now that was the sin that did Jezebel in Who you gon' tell when the repercussions spin? Showing off your ass cause you're thinkin' it's a trend Girlfriend, let me break it down for you again You know I only say it cause I'm truly genuine Don't be a hard rock when you really are a gem Baby girl, respect is just a minimum Niggas fucked up and you still defending 'em Now, Lauryn is only human Don't think I haven't been through the same predicament Let it sit inside your head like a million women in Philly, Penn It's silly when girls sell their souls because it's in Look at where you be in, hair weaves like Europeans Fake nails done by Koreans Come again, come again, come again, my friend come again Guys you know you'd better watch out Some girls, some girls are only about That thing, that thing, that thing That thing, that thing, that thing The second verse is dedicated to the men More concerned with his rims and his Timbs than his women Him and his men, come in the club like hooligans Don't care who they offend, poppin' yang (Like you got yen!) Let's stop pretend, the ones that pack pistols by they waist men Cristal by the case men, still in they mother's basement The pretty face men claiming that they be the big men Need to take care of they three or four kids And they face a court case when the child support late Money taking and heart breaking, now you wonder why women hate men The sleepy, silent men The punk, domestic violence men Quick to shoot the semen, stop acting like boys and be men How you gonna win, when you ain't right within? How you gonna win, when you ain't right within? How you gonna win, when you ain't right within? Come again, come again, come again, come again Watch out, watch out Look out, look out Watch out, watch out Look out, look out Watch out, watch out Look out, look out Watch out, watch out Look out, look out Girls you know you'd better watch out Some guys, some guys are only about That thing, that thing, that thing That thing, that thing, that thing Guys you know you'd better watch out Some girls, some girls are only about That thing, that thing, that thing That thing, that thing, that thing Girls you know you'd better watch out Some guys, some guys are only about That thing, that thing, that thing
Every woman rappers now tryna be like lil Kim. I’m legit having trouble finding female rappers today or in recent years that put out good songs without having to twerk or talk about something dirty. Lauryn Hill is on another level compared to female rappers today. Female rappers today have to resort to sexualising everything in their vids or lyrics. Lauryn Hill just needs her words and her voice. I miss her.
Stepz97 • try listening to Tink, Maliibu Miitch, Saweetie & Kiyanne. These ladies are raw afff. Nicki Minaj too because regardless how she looks, many fail to even acknowledge her real bars & her majestic flow.
Not too many lyricist out there and if they are lyricist, they are being over shadowed by these candy rappers. What happened to telling a story? All you hear about now is sex, how much money they got, and how many chicks or men they pull. When you've heard one, you've heard all.
Please do. These rappers, I mean candy rappers could learn a thing or two from Lauryn, Common, Wu Tang, Nas, Mc Lyte, Queen Latifah, Taliban Kwalie, Royce Da 5'9. I can go on and on. I just named a few.
@@bluepharaoh1766 People like Ms. Hill are very few in numbers... Nowadays ( I am sorry for generalizing or offending anyone) woman artist are fully naked talking about sexual stuff and degrade themselves, you watch those videos it's hard to imagine doing them 60 different way... They think the less I wear the more it will help my status and self esteem and empower me.. No my friend on the contrary you lose respect and it will not do anything with empowering you as matter of fact the older you get the more depressed you become.
This song taught me self-respect, self-love, worth and value at 5 years old and it hasn’t left. I’m 25 now and when I have a daughter I plan to introduce her to Lauryn’s music in the womb. I love this woman. I want to thank her in person one day. She also was so very unapologetic in her melanin which really spoke to me without me knowing. 🥰
You should 100% introduce ur future baby to ms lauryn hill !! She is a wonder . And u should also ALWAYS unapologetically be u, and ALWAYS unapologetically be proud of ur melanin and who u are . 🤍
Meeee! I am! I forgot how AWESOME this whole album was. She was truly epic. Talented, didn't mince words, beautiful. This still sounds so fresh and good.
"Lauryn Hill‘s debut album ‘The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill’ has gone diamond after selling over 10 million copies in the US, making her the first ever female rapper to achieve the feat." What an absolute legend! I can't put into words how much love I have for this album!
