Great review thanks. Lava guitars have their place with the great built in effects and its almost indestructible making them the perfect beach guitar if the crowd isn't too big. The effects are wonderful in a small room but not really amplified much. Taylor GSMini is also a great travel guitar but its not indestructible and no built in effects. I immediately noticed the Lava didn't need retuning nearly as often as wood guitars when the temperature changed. I'll pass on sound comparison since its an individual taste. I will say great guitar players always have more than one guitar. Right tool for the right job. Don't expect Lava to blow away a Martin but I'm never taking my Martin D41 out to the beach. The right tool for that trip would be the Lava Me 2. The quality of your playing matters far more than the quality of the guitar. Eric Clapton could play a toy rubber band guitar and get ovations.

It sounds clean but that's about it. The tone isn't bad in and of itself but it certainly isn't one that I find appealing in an acoustic.

I long ago stopped taking guitar lessons. I never progressed beyond a few chords, partly because I never got callouses & it was too painful. (Even though I practiced regularly.) Now I am having hand issues due to typing all the time, so it's not even an option. Makes me sad. But if I were still playing, I would love this. I'm small/have small hands/fingers, so I always struggled a bit with full sized guitars. I love the streamlined/elegant look & the fact that the material is less fragile than a wooden guitar. Sounds pretty good as well. Maybe a little muffled for my personal preference, but nothing major. Darnit, I wish this existed back when I was learning! (Now a million years ago.) Looks like it would have been perfect for me.

Never knew that was a problem for some, the first 2 days were painful for me but from the 3rd the pain went downhill, right now I practice once every 2-3 days and still no pain. Hope you get better.

Man yesica you describe my situation exactly a couple of months ago. You need to just work your body in different ways to remove the learned / cumulative tension, what helped for me was sun salutation sequence (which doesnt focus specifically on the hands, but you'll realise there that once everything else lines up the hands get better too). Second thing as cold showers, shocks the system and makes you move and tense up in surprising ways so that when you get back to comfort again there is a release. Small hands, I can't help you, I got them too so use a baby taylor. all the best

The reason you were experiencing so much pain, is because you were playing a piece of junk. Quality learning comes from a quality instrument. When you buy quality, you only cry once( When paying for it). The strings on a quality acoustic guitar should be almost effortless to play. There should be no pain involved. Sounds like you were playing a plank with cables. Get a good middle of the road acoustic (about $375-$485) in about that average range should get you a good deal on a quality second hand guitar. Then start with a set of light gauge strings, and get your local guitar shop set it up for you. You will have a totally different experience. People who tell you its better to start with unplayable junk to "build your playing character" never held an instrument in their lives. If you start with a good, properly set up guitar, you have a massive advantage out of the gate. And you will feel no pain.

I don’t understand the fellows negative view on Carbon fiber guitars. I’ve played my Rainsong and CA baritone guitar beside my 64 Gibson and any number of Martin guitars. All the guitars sound great together, they all sound slightly different but all sound lovely. $700 dollar wood guitars will be plywood guitars. This sounds just as good or better and if it has a nice low action it’s probably easier to play. Nice guitar picking.

Every RU-vidr that says it retails for $699 is referring to the acoustic electric model (likely without realizing). Not the freeboost model with the built in effects which retails for $100 more. Keep that in mind if you decide to buy this guitar from the lava music website

Just to clear something....of course it has a battery and it's a very nice one, too. I think the reason it isn't mentioned is that it is not accessible or removable by the owner. It can take as long as six hours to charge. Seems to last forever once it's charged up. I've gone a week or more between charges. One other note...stays in tune and is only affected by string stretch. Humidity means nothing. Loves a set of Slinky Cobalts 10/46

Very good review, with a couple of caveats...if it's rechargeable then it has a battery, it would seem that this is not accessible, (which is more of a drawback than a feature) What is the action like? also, does it have an under-saddle pickup or an internal mic' - if it's under-saddle then it may be difficult to adjust the action if (like most factory setups) it's way too high?

Both videos of this guitar I have watched said the same thing "it doesn't have batteries" . Then what are you charging with the USB? That battery that _is_ in there, is it replaceable? Because when the company says, "no batteries" when there *clearly* is a battery, it makes me think they are trying to make a negative, sound like a positive! *No* rechargeable battery on the market is rechargeable forever!

@@LeglessWonder Is that what they mean? This might be really complicated for you to understand, but sometimes companies will use things that are misleading to make you think a con is actually a pro. Sure you don't have to add batteries but what happens when that rechargeable goes out? Are you going to ship back to China, or to a licensed Lava dealer? Because, I'm sure they didn't make it to where you could replace the rechargeable. Otherwise, they wouldn't say "doesn't require batteries". Sorry again if this is all too complicated for you.

@@truckerenoch8824 I make special application lithium batteries for a living. This is an excellent question. Hopefully they are using a standard rechargable cell so as you pointed out... they can be replaced when needed.

Is the case waterproof. Thanks for a very fine review. You are very talented! At 1:14 you say it is a guitar for a beginner or someone just starting out to play, for kids... so it's not something a serious adult player would really use? Do they make them with nylon string, a classical guitar for classical players? Thanks for the video! Forgot... is the guitar case waterproof?

@@maxcollodi1770 Hi Max! Thanks for answering. I heard the measurement of the nut on all of their guitars is 1 7/8ths inches which is very narrow. By "no" you mean you agree that it's a guitar for kids? Also, is it a guitar you can put nylon strings on it and it would work well?

@@mwj5368 By No, I meant the case is not waterproof. It's not particularly a guitar for kids' but it would be a good size for them. My main interest in the this guitar would be for traveling since it's immune to temperature and humidity changes. I own several wood guitars that I would not want to travel with. The nut is 1 11/16. That's narrower than I would like since I do a lot of finger-style guitar and a wider nut would be better. I don't think nylon strings would work. It's very good quality and not a toy.

Looking to get one for a travel guitar I can just throw in the trunk of my car. No worries for temperature change and love that the neck joins lower on the fretboard (easier to play those higher frets)….Downside though it’s a bit pricey for what it is….

We all do...😅 But to be fair we need to compare this one with a small body wood guitar... Small body guitars always sound strange, with no bass sound and overpowering mids.... I would love to see a comparison with a normal guitar with the same size....

Nothing like natural wood guitar. They look and smell good. If you have an original american standard stratocaster fender with the hard case made of wood after 20 years the sweet wood smell will still be there. If your are a good player and knows about the weight and different density of wood will give out different sound you will appreciate wood guitars more than plastic ones. Carbon fiber still needs epoxy or thermo set plastic to bind them and if interior materials is used to manufacture them will degenerate in time instead of being seasoned like wooden ones. If you have lots of cash to spare good can buy lava as toy to play. If not stay with wooden ones.

@@rmtinocos wooden guitars sounds depends on the quality and age of wood and the way they are built. Two wooden guitar of the same brand and design might not give out the same sound but carbon fiber moulded guitars of similar type will sound alike with the same strings. Depending in one's liking many mini guitars from south America really have fantastic sound. Hope someone will compare lava with a good mini guitar and see the result. Many wooden ukulelee which are smaller than the lava really have good sounds but they are not cheap either. Very personal in one's choice and liking of sounds. What sounds bad to one's ears might sounds good to others. Some likes heavy metal distortions and some do not. How to compare. Some Old blues guitarists likes the dirty sounds of vintage raw cheap guitar sound and will pay highly for one.

Imagine your guitar is about 3-4 years old. You have been playing regularly and the battery is not holding charge well, then the rechargeable battery failed on you while you are upstage for a gig. Or you forgot to charge the thing Unlike a system which you can insert fresh batteries in before any gig.

I'd highly recommend keeping a full-size guitar around. I find that even while travelling I take one of my full-size guitars instead of my travel guitar (which is a Harley Benton-knockoff of the Taylor GS Mini) because while it's a nice guitar for the size (and, in that case, also the price), a small guitar will always be a small guitar - less comfortable to play and with not as full of a sound. At the end of the day, I care about that much, much more than about the bit of extra weight and inconvenience. I only take it when I travel by plane (would need to pay extra to take a full-size) or when I'm afraid I might damage the instrument (e.g. on a long-distance hike).

@@My-Channel_forever absolutely. I'm always impressed by the sound when I pick it up. As my wife put it, it sounds like I already produced it right out of the guitar. It almost makes my playing more confident sounding because of how nice the tone is. Anyone who said it has no low end is listening properly as the low end (even when I play higher up with a capo) cuts through the mix nicely. Go get one!

Its plastic, and made by pouring into a mould. It does have a small amount of carbon fibre but is mostly plastic, they call it carbon fibre "composite", that doesn't mean its carbon fibre, carbon fibre cannot be poured into a mould, like the lava is made.

I don't know. It sounds best, to me, when you were just strumming chords, no effects, not plugged in. So, what would be the point? I can just do that with my Yamaha, haha. It's always so hard for me to tell from these demonstration videos. I'd have to sit in my room and just play around with it. I could see it being cool, nothing sounds BAD. I just couldn't really say 'til I messed around with it. But, yeah, they retail at like 800 bucks...so that ain't happening. Haha. It looks cool, I'll give it that. I wasn't crazy about any of the plugged-in tones, but, again, it's hard to tell. I think if I had an extra 800 bucks, I'd spend it on a different guitar.

How the heck can you get effects without a speaker? I can't get my head around that. unless the knob somehow changes the dimensions of the space inside the guitar, how can reverb be changed? and delay?

There is a mic inside the guitar. Mic signal goes in a small amp powered by usb-rechargable unit, a small speaker inside the sound hole does the rest.

is it effective to perform at a big show? i mean.... live perform at outdoor stage and maybe for 100 audience?

Holding a natural wooden acoustic guitar definitely will make your showmanship outstanding if you are a good guitarist and an entertainer especially if you can tap and drum on the guitar instead of using loop and electronic effects from the artificial sound of plastic fiber ones. Natural sound that created from a single acoustic by you will definitely put you ahead of others using AI guitars.

I guess they are making them left handed also...? I seen it listed on Amazon Prime , when I was looking up left handed guitars. But they showed , RH..
