We’re visiting Hood River Lavender Farms, which is about an hour and 20 minutes’ drive east of Portland. This route is one of Oregon’s most scenic drives, as it goes right through the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area with its dramatic cliffs and roadside waterfalls, and then enters the idyllic countryside of the Hood River Valley.
Hood River Lavender Farms hosts an annual Lavender Daze Festival every July, and visitors are welcome to explore the lavender fields, picnic, and visit the craft vendors. Here is the farm website, for full details: hoodriverlavender.com/
There’s U-Pick lavender from late June through September for those who would like to cut fresh flowers, and it’s also right next to a winery for those who would like drinks.
It’s a really great place to relax and have a picnic. We brought a picnic blanket and played a board game. Visitors can either bring their own food or buy food on site.
When we visited, the on-site food options were limited to snack trays or kettle corn, which were tasty, but next time we would also bring more food from home.
Don’t miss the farm’s resident goats and llamas!
There are great views of Mount Adams right from the lavender farm, and the top of Mount Hood is also visible. It’s possible to see really great views of Mount Hood from this area, so for a clearer view, we drove a little further down the road after leaving the farm. To see these views, you can navigate from the Hood River Lavender Farm toward Lavender Valley. Lavender Valley is another lavender farm 15 minutes down the road. It’s currently closed, so we didn’t go all the way, but we enjoyed the beautiful Mount Hood views from the country roads nearby.
