The Lavochkin La-7 was a piston-engined single-seat Soviet fighter aircraft developed during World War II by Lavochkin...easy to write...hard to pronounce, haha. This particular diecast model is from Atlas and is based on the aircraft flown by Soviet fighter ace Ivan Nikitovich Kozhedub. Sorry about the birds chirping in the backround....one of the drawbacks of doing these outside. I hope you find this useful in some way and thanks for taking the time to check out the video. Cheers

Ivan Kozhedub, the highest scoring allied ace of WWII, was Ukrainian. He was ethnically Ukrainian, and born in Ukraine.

Yes you are very correct. But he fought for the Soviet Union during WW2 and was a hero for the Soviets. I know in the current climate of the Ukrainian-Russian situation it maybe important to point out his birth place and i respect that completely. But he chose to fight for Russia and remained in the Russian military after the war. I am sorry for what happening at the moment, but I don't try and be political in my videos. He is listed as a Russian fighter ace from WW2 and that's the information I used for a little background to the aircraft in the video. I thank you for watching and you comment. Once again it's not meant to offend or besmirch anything to do with Ukraine by not mentioning his birth place but who he was as a pilot fighting for Russia during WW2. Cheers 👍

@@heavymetaldiecast When it comes to the Soviet period, there was no distinct Russian label within the armed forces (nor label for any nationality). He was a Soviet ace. It would be more impolitic than calling a Scotsman an Englishman. While Russia may have been interchangeable at the time with the Soviet Union as a term it was always inaccurate to use it. I study Eastern European history, in academia it has long been practice not to say Russian when referring to the Soviet Union. Ultimately more Belarusians and Ukrainians died per capita during WWII than Russians, it would be a disservice to their memory (more Belarusians and Ukrainians also fought in the Soviet military per capita than Russians during the war) to simply say "Russian." Before 1991 there was no "Russian Air Force" (not counting the IRAS).

@@TheZerech as I said, my videos and myself are not politically motivated. Its all about the model. All i stated was he was a pilot for the Russians and was there highest scoring fighter ace. Just to add a little backround of the model in question. Not trying to go in depth into the regions political or geographical demographics. I'm not going to argue with you. This is one of my earliest videos and to be honest I had never heard of this pilot before. I googled Russian fighter ace and got the information about it in I ended for the video. My apologies if you have found the description offensive or wrong or what ever your feeling. As I said my aim of the videos is to show a model, I only say a little about each subject just to add some context for the viewer. Not sure what else you want me to do. I enjoy diecast not politics and Eastern European history so you have me at a disadvantage. Have a great rest of your day 👍

@@joeking6484 as I've always said I have no political view like when this type of topic was brought up on the Russian helicopter review I did. I'm here for the models also 😂👍

I bought this off a seller on eBay awhile ago. I think he was located in Europe as I bought a couple at the same time to save on postage to Australia 😀👍
