Law Abiding Citizen is a 2009 American vigilante action-thriller film directed by F. Gary Gray from a screenplay written by Kurt Wimmer. It stars Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx and takes place in Philadelphia, telling the story of a man driven to seek justice while targeting not only his family's killer but also those who have supported a corrupt criminal justice system, intending to assassinate anyone supporting the system. Law Abiding Citizen was released theatrically in North America on October 16, 2009.
The film was nominated for a Saturn Award as the Best Action/Adventure/Thriller Film of the year, but lost to Inglourious Basterds.
The film also garnered NAACP Image Awards nominations for both Jamie Foxx (Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture) and F. Gary Gray (Outstanding Directing in a Motion Picture).

Rumor is that the original ending called for Clyde to get away with it but Jamie Foxx supposedly leveraged his superior star power to make sure that his character won in the end. If that's true, he ruined what could have been an iconic movie.

I think the movie ending suits Jamie Foxx's character. Teaching him not to strike deals with murderers, which Clyde did become one in the end. Poetic justice to a tragic character.

@wickedwitchoftheeast88
@wickedwitchoftheeast88 2 года назад
I think Clyde's intention was for Nick Rice to suffer for life and he achieved that. No matter how you dress it up Rice is partly responsible for Clyde going off at the deep end in the first place because he was denied his day in court to tell the jury what Darby did and Clyde's evidence would probably have got a conviction because most juror's are parents. Rice's pride and ego is why he refused to go after Darby because Rice didn't wanna risk lowering his conviction rate, two innocent lives being cruelly cut short didn't even enter his head. Thats why Clyde didn't kill Rice he wanted to fuck with his head and I certainly wouldn't want my friends and colleagues death's on my conscience, Cantrell warned Rice not to make that deal with Darby and he didn't listen now his actions will eat away at him for life because had he just tried like Clyde said only Darby and Ames would have died and the rest would never have happend

The ending should have been like Swordfish, Fox thinks Butler is dead but after looking at everything realizes he's still out there. He asks the CIA guy if he knows where he is and all he can tell him is that he doesn't have to worry about him coming after him. Next thing he reads or hears about is the mysterious death of either a terrorist leader, a crime boss he couldn't nail, or some other bad person. Fox just walks away with the new mindset Butler instilled in him and be a better prosecutor and knowing anyone he can't get, Butler will see to it they get what they deserve.

Ok two things that could have vastly improved this movie: #1: Shelton had an accomplice(s), who could help him carry out the attacks. Like he recruits a network of people who were not only screwed over by the system but that also have trades and skills he could employ. The spy said it himself, Clyde is a brain, a strategist. True he’s also an engineer but this is were the ten year time-skip comes in handy. For ten years he recruits allies, scopes out all the locations he needs and builds every device needed so when the time came he was ten years ahead in his plan. And #2, and I think people will agree with me, the ending needed to be changed. Maybe it could end with Clyde getting away or it could have ended with Foxx’s character actually developing because of these attacks. He changes his attitude, his ego gets the severe deflating it’s needed and he admits defeat. Maybe in humility, Clyde could end the bombing of city hall. Sure he’s got blood on his hands but he’s finally gotten him to be humbled, brought down a few pegs. It’s a great concept but this movie needs a remake with these ideas

Its a very entertaining movie, if you dont go thinking too much about it. If you do, you start noticing: apart from clyde, these characters lack motivation, then you start noticing how there is no character progression whatsoever for any of them, then you notice the plot holes and by then, the ending will be the lesser of your complaints. Just watch it, switch your brain off for a couple hours and enjoy it. Movies are better that way.

That movies arc is not linear at all but then agian.. What Hollywood movie is.. You cant have someone actually challenging the totally corrupt system that forgot about any justice decades ago.. Winning.. The Public Relations Gestapo are too scared to have that idea even out there.. I love ❤️ Jamie Fox.. but in this movie its all Clyde and in any real outcome it will be Clyde .. This ending is right in line with GOT ... Jon Wick.. you name it.. Gerald Buttler was fantastic in this role.. This is why all movies and any entertainment sucks now. At the end when Jamie Foxx's character has Clyde murdered it just shows how little integrity Jamie Foxx's character had and how he was satisfied with himself when he did abandon his morals and professional ethics. Innocent men are prosecuted and convicted. Men guilty of heinous crimes are given a slap on the wrist and convicted of a considerably lesser crime just to get the conviction. Watch the movie again and watch Gerard Butler's monologue about how he would have been satisfied if the men who murdered his family were acquitted. Then listen how Jamie Foxx's character says that sometimes they will go for the lesser crime just to get the conviction but is himself satisifed with himself when he is an accomplice to Clyde's murder. They had more than enough evidence to convict Clyde of multiple murders but chose to commit murder himself. Jamie Foxx's character is a hypocrite. Fun movie though.

For anyone wondering how the CIA and Clyde got the tie to Mr. "Bad guy." Two theories. 1. CIA delivers the package, (tie) to the target's property probably disguised as a courier with his wife's name on the package, target opens the package thinks a "lovely gift" from his wife. Go into the bathroom to try the tie on. He tights the tie and simple chocks to death, unable to remove the tie. 2. Clyde hacks the target's wife's devices . She's ordered a product for her husband from an online shopping company, Clyde simply changes the package's tracking number so that the package comes to Clyde instead. He then swaps the original item ordered for the tie and then sends the package to the target's house. The target thinks it's a thoughtful 'gift' from his wife, tries the tie on, and chocks to death.
