What if you bought a piece of land you have the title to the land paid taxes on the land but a squatter built a house on that piece of land can you recover the land

I am to understand that lawyers in Trinidad and Tobago charge a percentage of the value of a property as their fee when hired to manage (legally) the changing of ownership etc. Is that true? It seems unethical. I’m assuming the cost to do this should generally be the same.
