Or would law schools even rather you be more diverse say with biology or something even in the arts? Also what type of extra curriculars should I get involved with? Hey I have a question! In regard to GPA, when a law school says “best two years”, does that mean your best 20 credits? For example, 5 credits from first year, 10 credits from second year, and 5 credits from third year. Or do they mean specific years i.e year one and year three?
@HumnaWasim
@HumnaWasim 4 года назад
From my knowledge, it depends on the school. For example, I've heard that Queen's takes the best two, meaning all your grades from whichever set of two years had the highest GPA (ex: 1+2, 2+3, 3+4, 1+3) so it's not specific to your best 20 credits. I think Ryerson (not 100% sure) takes the best 2 years but measures this on a credit basis, meaning 20 best credits. Hope that helps, but you can always contact the schools to ask how exactly they consider the best two!

Hello Humna I have a few questions I’d like to ask if you can answer them for me I’d really appreciate. 1. Do international students studying law in Canada get a job after graduation or can they only practice law in their country? 2. Is the LSAT exam of Canada same as the US LSAT? 3. I’m currently senior year of undergrad in New York. Spring is my last semester and I’m hoping to start law school fall 2021. When do you suggest I start working on my LSAT? 4. In terms of law school loans, are there loan options granted to international students? 5. Do you think law school is expensive in the US or Canada? 6. Can you suggest some LSAT practice resources that will guarantee a good LSAT score? 7. Is it true that you can only get a job as a lawyer right out of college only if you’re in an Ivy League?
@HumnaWasim
@HumnaWasim 3 года назад
1. If you complete your legal education & are called to the bar in a Canadian province (ex:nOntario)- you are licensed to practice in Ontario 2. Yup, it's the same 3. That depends on how well prepared you are and the goal score you want- for some people it takes around 6+ months, for others they can prepare in 2-3 months or less. You should probably write a diagnostic test to see where you're at and adjust your study schedule/ study time from there based on the goal score you want. 4. Yes, I believe so- although I'm not too well versed on this! I'm pretty sure international students can also apply for lines of credit, etc. 5. In general, if you're an international student in either country- it's a lot more expensive. Specifically, in the U.S, it really depends on the school you're going to- some schools are a lot more affordable than others. The costs in Canada range from 15-30k+ a year, depending on the school, but the costs are relatively more standardized than U.S schools. 6. Nothing guarantees a good LSAT score- just depends on what method works for you! 7. No, every job ranges in the level of expertise required, and the legal job market is extremely diverse.

Hey! Just wanted to know if I get my bachelors degree for paralegal studies at humber after 4 years could I apply to law school? Or do i need to get a degree from a university?
@HumnaWasim
@HumnaWasim 4 года назад
I think most law schools in Canada require a university degree, but there are some exceptions! I’m not too familiar with those, but I know people in law school who have worked as a paralegal!

If I get a paralegal diploma before law school is that considered good experience
@HumnaWasim
@HumnaWasim 4 года назад
Yes, I would say so! There's no definitive experience which is objectively considered "good experience", it all depends on how you speak to your experiences in your application!

The LSAT is conducted through the LSAC. If you're taking the LSAT through the LSAC, then yes, you can apply to Canadian law schools with it.

Hii, im in high school in gr11 and want to become a lawyer in the future, I’ve taken science courses and the one introduction to law course, but I want to get accepted into the York university or the nearby universities in Toronto. Do u know which courses I should be taking in grade11 and 12 in order to reach university and study law in uni and so on? I know high schools don’t matter as much to law schools, but high school marks and courses do matter when applying to a Uni and I want my courses to be accurate ones for getting into the Law field. Let me know any suggestions on what courses I should take for grade12 thanks!
@jesskfca
@jesskfca 3 года назад
Hey! I remember when I was in your position in high school, and now that I am finishing my undergrad at UofT, I recommend you study what you like! In high school, I focused on English and History, as I naturally excelled in that material and was passionate about it. If you're doing well in science, and want to take the plunge and do a HBSc, totally do it! Ontario Law schools (particularly UofT) want passionate individuals from diverse backgrounds! A degree in science would only boost your chances of admission (along with a strong GPA and LSAT score ofc). There are no courses in high school or undergrad that will prepare you for law school or the legal field - you'd have to go to a law firm to actually see how things are done. And, the point of LAW school is that it teaches you the LAW. So please do not stress what law courses you think you "need" to take now or study in undergrad - frankly, it's a waste. Focus on what you know you are passionate about (if that's law, great! No harm there - but it does NOT increase you chances of getting into law school) and that should get you where you want to go. :) Hope this helped!

@@jesskfca hii first of all thank u so much for ur time for writing a huge paragraph to help me outtt, it means a lottt to me. But actually for some background info, I am not the best in sciences, Especially chemistry and physics im horrible at as well as the maths. I feel like social sciences would be better for me since I’m more of an English and reading and writing person. My fav subject is definitely English, so I’m not into any maths or sciences. If I was I would definitely apply to the science programs in universities. But since I’m not, I’m thinking of applying to the English program idk if it will help me get into law school after uni tho. I’m thinking of taking criminology or history too but I’m not sure yet on what university programs I should take. Since I’m not a math or science person and most programs offer that. But I want to get into the Bachelor of Arts which do include English, history, philosophy, etc. Which programs do you think I should apply to when applying to uni? Also, for grade 12 I have taken: English, law, history, anthropology, psychology, philosophy, business leadership and gym. Do u think I would get accepted into the programs in uni such as criminology, English etc? Since I didn’t take any maths or sciences for next year. I did some research and it says I need English and 5 other 4 U or M courses and but it didn’t specify which ones. So I took ones of my own choice, but will that prevent me from getting into any art programs just because I didn’t take Math or Bio, chem, physics next year?

hi thanks for the video this helped me loads. im heading to grade 12 this year and im super scared about all this stuff but you made it sound super straight forward and yea it helped me calm down. i have a question though about the autobiographical sketch. that's more of your personal volunteering work and stuff right? im sort of worried about this portion because i get super anxious putting myself in different environments so i was wondering what sort of working/volunteer places and organizations would look best or that you'd recommend? like where to begin on internships and stuff
@HumnaWasim
@HumnaWasim 4 года назад
Hey! Yes the autobiographical sketch is basically every extracurricular activity you've done from volunteering to research work to working a job etc. Firstly, I would say you're really young and you have a lot of time to get more experience, so don't stress too much! :) I would say to just focus on doing what you like to do and that will naturally lead you towards certain internships and opportunities. Don't try to focus too much on doing activities you think are suitable for a law school application. I had a range of different extracurriculars from sports to science research to interning at a mayor's office- just about anything that I was interested in doing. You can also start simply by joining some clubs on campus that interest you and getting involved through that, talk to your professors about potential research/volunteer positions, search up volunteer opportunities etc. Just about anything works! Hope this helps :)
