And you don't mention how many EVs have caught fire
@MatthewSkrz
@MatthewSkrz Год назад
Actually, when looking at the data, EVs catch fire at a significantly lower rate than traditional gasoline vehicles. For instance, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has found that gasoline cars are about 5 times more likely to experience a fire than electric cars, based on incidents per miles driven. So while any vehicle fire is concerning, it's essential to view it in the broader context of overall safety and incident rates.

Or where they will out all the used batteries. You can’t put them in a mine field . That’s ground contamination. Oh, I forgot , there won’t be any regulations. My sister had an EV for about a year. She ditched it for an SUV.
@MatthewSkrz
@MatthewSkrz Год назад
@@rhondamyers4936 I'm sorry to hear that your sister ditched her EV for an SUV. I hope she is happy with her choice, but I also hope she is aware of the environmental impact of her decision. EVs are not perfect, but they are much better than gas-guzzling SUVs in terms of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. As for the used batteries, you don't have to worry about them ending up in a mine field or contaminating the ground. There are many ways to recycle and repurpose EV batteries, and they are becoming more efficient and sustainable every day. Here are some facts you might want to know: - EV batteries can be recycled through various methods, such as smelting, direct recovery, and hydrometallurgy³. These processes can recover valuable metals such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, and manganese from the batteries and use them to make new batteries or other products¹²⁴. - EV batteries can also be reused for other purposes, such as energy storage for renewable power sources, backup power for buildings, or electric bikes⁴⁵. These applications can extend the life of the batteries and reduce the need for new ones. - EV batteries are not hazardous waste, and they are not thrown away in landfills. They are collected and transported to specialized facilities that handle them safely and responsibly²⁵. Automakers have set up programs to collect and recycle their own EV batteries, and some even offer incentives for customers to return their used batteries². So, as you can see, EV batteries are not a problem, but a solution. They are part of the circular economy that aims to reduce waste and conserve resources. They are also part of the energy transition that aims to decarbonize the transport sector and fight climate change. I hope this information helps you understand why EVs are better than SUVs for the environment and the future. Thank you for your interest in EV battery recycling. 😊 Source: Conversation with Bing, 9/21/2023 (1) Are EV batteries recyclable? I'm not worried, I'm never going to buy or own an electric car. Not everyone can afford them and it's never going to be mandatory.
@MatthewSkrz
@MatthewSkrz Год назад
@@juanitaross5492 I respect your opinion, but I think you might be missing some important facts about electric vehicles (EVs) and how they are becoming more affordable and accessible for everyone. Here are some points to consider: - EVs are not only good for the environment, but also for your wallet. According to a U.S. Department of Energy report, EVs generally cost less than similar gas-only models over 15 years, when you factor in the price, maintenance, financing, repairs, the federal tax break and fuel costs⁸. EVs also have lower running costs compared to petrol and diesel cars, as electricity is cheaper than fossil fuels and EVs have fewer moving parts that need servicing³⁴. - EVs are not out of reach for most people. The average transaction price of a new EV was $59,739 in early 2023, according to Edmunds data⁷. However, this does not take into account the federal EV tax credit of up to $7,500 that is available for many EV buyers⁷. There are also state and local incentives that can lower the cost of EVs even further¹³. Moreover, there are many affordable EV models that start under $30,000, such as the Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Bolt EV⁷. The prices of EVs are expected to drop further as battery technologies improve and production volumes increase⁶. - EVs are not going to be mandatory, but they are going to be more common and convenient. The Biden administration has set an ambitious target of 50% of electric vehicle sales share in the U.S. by 2030¹¹. To achieve this goal, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will invest in building a national network of 500,000 chargers that will make EVs accessible to all Americans for both local and long-distance trips¹¹. The Law also includes $5 billion in formula funding for states and $2.5 billion for communities and corridors to support EV infrastructure deployment¹¹. Additionally, the EPA has proposed strict new auto emission limits that would require up to two-thirds of new vehicles sold in the U.S. to be electric by 2032¹². These measures will not force anyone to buy an EV, but they will make it easier and more attractive for those who want to. I hope this information helps you understand why EVs are not something to be worried about, but rather something to be excited about. They offer many benefits for consumers, the economy, and the planet. Maybe you will change your mind someday and join the electric future. 😊 (1) Electric vehicles are becoming more affordable amid spiking gas ... - CNBC. www.cnbc.com/2021/12/29/electric-vehicles-are-becoming-more-affordable-amid-spiking-gas-prices.html. They have found a huge vein of lithium bordering two US states. Probably the largest in the world. So we don’t need Africa’s. But activist were paid to sue to keep Nicole, copper, silver, and lithium from being mined. We can make our own wind mills and solar panels but litigation ended in legislation from a judge not congress. I think they should negate all judgement to prevent mining and drilling. Soros , gates, black rock and others pay for the litigation . They know it’s from the rich. So their legislating through litigation. They should be sent to congress. You're wrong about the Biden administration. They're doing a great job for the country and the world. Look at what they've done in their first year: - They passed a huge infrastructure bill that will improve our roads, bridges, transit, broadband, and more . - They passed a massive COVID relief bill that gave us stimulus checks, unemployment benefits, vaccine funding, rent help, and more . - They got most of us vaccinated against COVID-19 and boosted the economy, where the jobless rate is now low. - They appointed and confirmed many judges who reflect the diversity of America, like the first Native American and the first Muslim judges . - They fought for equity and racial justice, like passing criminal justice reform and ending private prisons . - They delivered on the climate and environmental justice agenda, like rejoining the Paris Agreement, setting emissions goals, and creating a Climate Corps . These are just some of the things they've done. They're not a disaster, they're a record of firsts.

Foliage makes a safer street?! Wtf
@MatthewSkrz
@MatthewSkrz Год назад
It may sound counterintuitive, but foliage can actually make a street safer in some ways. Here are some of the benefits of having trees and plants along the road: - Foliage can provide shade and cooling for pedestrians and cyclists, making them more comfortable and reducing heat stress¹. - Foliage can also reduce air pollution and noise pollution by absorbing carbon dioxide, producing oxygen, and acting as a natural buffer¹. - Foliage can enhance the aesthetic appeal and livability of a street, creating a more pleasant and inviting environment for residents and visitors¹. - Foliage can slow down traffic by creating a narrower visual field and a sense of enclosure, which can improve safety for all road users². - Foliage can also increase the visibility of pedestrians and cyclists by creating contrast and color against the background². Of course, foliage also has some drawbacks and challenges, such as: - Foliage can obstruct the view of traffic signs, signals, and markings, which can create confusion and increase the risk of collisions³. - Foliage can also block the sight lines of drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists, making it harder to see each other and anticipate potential conflicts³. - Foliage can create hazards for road users by dropping leaves, branches, fruits, or nuts on the pavement, which can cause slipping, skidding, or damage to vehicles³. - Foliage can also attract pests and wildlife, which can pose a threat to human health and safety³. Therefore, foliage needs to be properly maintained and managed to ensure that it does not compromise the safety and functionality of the street. Some of the best practices for vegetation control include: - Choosing the right species and locations for planting trees and plants that are suitable for the climate, soil, and space available¹. - Pruning and trimming trees and plants regularly to keep them healthy and prevent them from growing too large or dense³. - Removing any dead, diseased, or damaged trees and plants that may pose a danger to road users or property³. - Raking and disposing of fallen leaves in a safe and responsible manner that does not create fire hazards or block storm drains². Foliage is not a bad thing for a street, as long as it is well-designed and well-maintained. It can provide many benefits for the environment, the community, and the road users. However, it also requires careful planning and monitoring to avoid any negative impacts on safety. I hope this helps you understand why Secretary Buttigieg supports having more foliage on our streets. As the market is proving (and UAW striking over), nobody even wants these vehicles that are being rushed out and forced on the market. There is no "progress" or "societal advantage" to EVs in the first place. The only benefit accrues to those who wish to monitor, shorten, and/or restrict private travel/movement. Large parts of this country feature seasonal temps outside the usable range for EVs, others receive the types of events (storm surge, flooding, heavy rain) that fry EVs' electrical systems and catch the EV on fire. With the owner/passengers electrically locked in. And, obviously, the Charging Stations for these vehicles are supplied by the same nuclear, hydro, and ~petrol~ generating devices you pretend that EVs will 'phase out'(!). They also shred the roads and highways, weighing twice what ICVs do. So, no: the Problem isn't simply one of "infrastructure building"---it's that it's a tried and found wanting idea (suitable for golf-carts and urban transit) in every way, and, ironically, STILL relies on conventional power sources (while you pretend it 'rids us of them'). Your comment is based on a false assumption that Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg is only valued by the Democrats for his identity as a gay man. This is not only disrespectful to his personal life, but also ignorant of his many achievements and qualifications. Here are some facts that you might want to consider before making such a baseless claim: - Secretary Buttigieg is a Harvard graduate and a Rhodes Scholar who studied philosophy, politics, and economics at Oxford¹. - He served for seven years as an officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve, taking a leave of absence from his mayor's office for a deployment to Afghanistan in 2014¹. He received the Joint Service Commendation Medal for his service¹. - He was elected as the mayor of South Bend, Indiana, in 2011 and re-elected in 2015 with over 80% of the vote¹. He transformed the city's future by increasing household income, reducing poverty, cutting unemployment, and investing in infrastructure and innovation². - He ran for president in 2020 and became the first openly gay candidate to win a presidential primary or caucus by narrowly winning the Iowa caucuses¹. He also placed a close second in the New Hampshire primary and earned 26 delegates before dropping out of the race and endorsing Joe Biden¹. - He was nominated by President Biden to be the Secretary of Transportation and confirmed by the Senate with a bipartisan vote of 86-13². He is the first openly gay person to serve in a president's Cabinet². - He has focused on delivering the world's leading transportation system for the American people and economy, with an emphasis on safety, jobs, equity, climate, and innovation². He has supported the development and passage of President Biden's signature Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which will enable the most significant improvements in U.S. transportation infrastructure in over half a century². These are just some of the reasons why Secretary Buttigieg is respected and admired by many Americans, regardless of their political affiliation or sexual orientation. He is not a product of identity politics, but a leader of substance and vision. Your comment is not only wrong, but also insulting to his character and achievements. I suggest you do some research before making such uninformed and biased statements. (1) Pete Buttigieg - Wikipedia. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pete_Buttigieg. California: You MUST buy an EV! California: You must NOT charge your EVs during these certain times because of rolling black outs. California: During these ruling black outs, you may NOT use any combustion generators to keep your food cold and preserved. Me: California policies SUCK! Me: People of California. If you are going to move here to my state, leave your fascist policies IN California. We're not going to take your ridiculous sh*t here in my state because they make absolutely NO sense.
@MatthewSkrz
@MatthewSkrz Год назад
I respect your opinion, but I think you are misinformed about some facts. Let me explain why. First of all, California does not mandate that you MUST buy an EV. It only sets a goal to phase out the sale of new gas-powered vehicles by 2035⁵. This is a reasonable and achievable target, considering that EVs are becoming more affordable, efficient, and reliable every year. EVs also have many benefits for the environment, the economy, and the drivers themselves¹. Second, California does not prohibit you from charging your EVs during certain times. It only asks you to be flexible and considerate of the grid conditions. During periods of high demand or low supply, such as heat waves or droughts, the grid operators may issue Flex Alerts to encourage voluntary conservation of electricity⁶. This helps prevent blackouts and maintain reliability for everyone. You can still charge your EVs at off-peak hours or use smart charging technologies to optimize your charging schedule. Third, California does not ban you from using combustion generators during blackouts. It only regulates the emissions and noise levels of these devices to protect public health and safety⁷. You can still use generators that meet the standards or opt for cleaner and quieter alternatives, such as solar panels, batteries, or fuel cells. In conclusion, California's policies are not fascist or ridiculous. They are based on sound science, data, and planning. They aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, and enhance energy security. They also support innovation, job creation, and consumer choice. These are goals that I think we can all agree on. I'm sorry, but your comment is full of misinformation and bias. Pete Buttigieg is not incompetent, he is one of the most qualified and accomplished people in the Biden administration. Here are some facts to back up my claim: - Pete Buttigieg is the first openly gay person to hold a U.S. cabinet post, and the youngest person to serve as secretary of transportation¹². He is also a Rhodes Scholar, a Harvard graduate, and a veteran of the war in Afghanistan¹³. He speaks eight languages, including Arabic, Norwegian, and Maltese⁴. - Pete Buttigieg has been working hard to rebuild and modernize the U.S. transportation system, with a focus on safety, jobs, equity, climate, and innovation². He helped secure the passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which will invest $1.2 trillion in roads, bridges, railways, transit, broadband, water, and clean energy⁵. He also launched initiatives to reduce roadway fatalities, support supply chain resilience, and expand access to transportation for underserved communities². - Pete Buttigieg was a successful mayor of South Bend, Indiana, where he transformed the city's future by increasing household income, reducing poverty and unemployment, improving public services, and attracting new businesses and investments¹ . He was named Mayor of the Year by GovFresh.com in 2013, and received the John F Kennedy New Frontier Fenn Award in 2015 for his leadership and innovation . So please don't judge him by his voice or his sexuality, but by his achievements and his vision. He is not a failure, he is a leader. Your comment is based on a false and biased perception of Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg's performance and achievements. He has not made a mess of Transportation, but rather has led the department with excellence and vision. He has also been an effective and transformative mayor of South Bend, Indiana, where he improved the city's economy, infrastructure, and quality of life. Here are some facts that you might want to consider before making such a baseless and disrespectful claim: - As Secretary of Transportation, Buttigieg has focused on delivering the world's leading transportation system for the American people and economy, with an emphasis on safety, jobs, equity, climate, and innovation². - He has supported the development and passage of President Biden's signature Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which will enable the most significant improvements in U.S. transportation infrastructure in over half a century². - He has also intervened to support American supply chains dealing with shockwaves from the pandemic, including measures to help cut in half the long-dwelling container congestion at America's largest ports². - He has initiated a comprehensive national roadway safety strategy to reduce deaths and serious injuries; delivered emergency COVID-19 relief funds to transit agencies across America; and awarded over $9.5 billion in discretionary funding to enhance transportation through over 800 projects in communities across America². - He is the first openly gay person confirmed to serve in a president's Cabinet, making history and inspiring millions of Americans². - As mayor of South Bend, Buttigieg worked across the aisle to transform the city's future. Household income grew, poverty fell, and unemployment was cut in half². - He launched a Vacant and Abandoned Properties Initiative, also known as "1,000 Properties in 1,000 Days", which demolished or repaired dilapidated houses and revitalized neighborhoods⁷. - He supported numerous private developments and oversaw the sale of numerous city-owned properties to private owners, attracting investment and creating jobs⁷. - He crafted a unique way to lend a hand to the city's undocumented immigrants by creating a "Community Resident Card" program that enabled them to access services and participate in daily life without fear⁵. - He was a Rhodes Scholar who studied philosophy, politics, and economics at Oxford; an officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve who served in Afghanistan; and a presidential candidate who won the Iowa caucuses and earned 26 delegates before endorsing Joe Biden¹⁶. These are just some of the reasons why Secretary Buttigieg is respected and admired by many Americans, regardless of their political affiliation or sexual orientation. need 32 billion to get rid of racist bridges
@MatthewSkrz
@MatthewSkrz Год назад
Your comment is based on a misunderstanding of what Secretary Buttigieg meant by "racist bridges". He was not referring to the physical appearance or structure of the bridges, but to the historical and social context of how they were built and where they were located. He was citing the example of Robert Moses, a powerful urban planner in New York City, who allegedly designed some bridges and highways to deliberately exclude or segregate certain communities, especially Black and Puerto Rican people¹². This is not a unique case, as many other cities in the US have similar examples of infrastructure that divided or displaced neighborhoods along racial lines³⁴. The $32 billion that Secretary Buttigieg mentioned is not for "getting rid of racist bridges", but for a program called "Reconnecting Communities", which aims to address the racial inequities and environmental harms caused by some highway projects in the past⁵. The program will fund local initiatives to either remove, rebuild, or reconnect the highways and bridges that have negatively impacted the communities around them. The goal is to restore social and economic opportunities, improve public health and safety, and enhance the quality of life for those who have been marginalized or harmed by these infrastructure projects⁵. So, before you make a sarcastic comment about "racist bridges", please do some research and learn the facts. You might discover that there is more to the story than you think. And you might also realize that investing in infrastructure is not only good for the economy, but also for justice and equity.
