As a young man that is 26 right now, I'm glad my dad showed me a lot of these shows, I feel as if most don't carry themselves as men anymore. Still some real men left tho, pass on what you know teach honor and pride in yourself, to respect others and be humble. Always stand for what you know is right. Appreciate the upload friend.
I grew up watching TV during the era of the westerns, and Lawman was one of those. I would sometimes catch my dad whistling or singing the theme songs around the house. Lawman was one, and the other was the Tombstone Territory theme. I'm sure there were others.
I’m 70 now, and there was a time (mid 50s to mid 60s) when westerns dominated all three channels. The tv show theme songs during that era, non westerns included, were the best and have never been equaled. There were so darn many.
As a guy who as a kid in the late 1950s and in the early 60s, I listened to TV western theme songs over and over again, I always liked Cheyenne's theme the best. Riverboat and the instrumental Wagon Train themes were right there too.
@@robertszvetics210 Many of the Warner Brothers television themes were written by Jerry Livingston (no relation to Jay) and Mack David (Hal's brother).
When I was 10 this theme would come on right after I got home from school when my grandpa was watching Encore Western. I got into the habit of singing along right after the signature gunshot.
My mom just loved John Russell. She wanted to dye a silver streak in her hair in the front--just like on the show--but my dad wouldn't let her! Russell dies some years ago of lung cancer. He was one of the most devastatingly handsome men on TV. Warner Bros. made some wonderful westerns back then...makes me nostalgic for my childhood.
Didn't grow up with these shows. But I grew to love them when my parents finally got satellite when I was in high school. Lawman, the rifleman, wanted dead or alive, rawhide, all great shows.
"The Lawman" had a unique atmosphere among the Westerns of those days. John Russell (Dan Troop) and Peter Brown (his deputy) never smiled and the show seemed much more bleak and solemn than shows like "Maverick" and "Gunsmoke", both of which had light moments. Even though I was a child, that difference appealed to me. Later, I learned that John Russell was the real deal. After graduating from UCLA, he was a Marine in WWII. But then James Garner (Maverick) and James Arness (Gunsmoke), were both infantrymen in WWII, and both were in combat. In those days, many actors were what was known as "real men". Now, in the great new America, they'd be criticized for their "toxic masculinity".
Yeah and others were REAL men, like Captain Kangaroo(Bob Keeshan) and Don Adams(Get Smart and the voice of Tennessee Tuxedo) were in WWII and some women served their country as well such as Beatrice Arthur(Maude and Golden Girls)!! There are others that would surprise you!
@@calvinjackson8110 I didn't know about them. That reinforces my conviction that it's often the people who don't seem tough on the surface who turn out to be the most courageous. As an example, when I was in an airborne unit Ft. Bragg, I knew a guy who'd gotten the Medal of Honor. Instead of being a macho tough-guy, he was low-key, very polite and almost too modest. I've known several people like that who go completely against the Hollywood stereotype that's been pushed on us.
It really sucks that the Lawman series on TV never lists who the guests were. That info is not embedded in the video and it is also not on the INFO page supplied by the H&I Heroes & Icons channel on Comcast. That determines if I am going to watch the episode or not for other old westerns. WRZ 2022-10-01
