In this video I do a carb clean start to finish on a Lawn Boy push mower with a 149cc Kohler engine. After the carb clean the mower runs great again!

Thank you so much; I've now cleaned my first carburetor, and the ol' boy should run for another few years.

I know it’s an old video Ellis but those are the slowest reacting chokes ever! 😂

Well done video! I have that same old lawnboy carb, but am wondering what that vacuum diaphragm arm is for that goes to the intake butterfly where the autochoke also attaches? Seems like they could "fight each other". Mine is starting well, then runs well for about 10 mins of cutting then just dies pretty quick. I am suspecting a cracked float or bad needle... but was wondering if after it gets to full temp if that vacuum part is choking it off? The autochoke looks good... open all the way when warmed up at the muffler. Very odd. Any wisdom would be welcome.

I don't think your issue is related to the autochoke. If it runs for around 10 minutes my first guess would be an ignition coil going bad. They will sometimes break down and lose spark when the engine gets hot.

I couldn't tell when you put the carb back on, if you had the one linkage on right. It was on right when you took it off. But I found a lot of people get it wrong.

I did put it on wrong in the video, but since have gotten it right. A little tricky to figure out!

I know you're a video creator but how often do you simply buy a new carb instead of cleaning it?

I often do buy carbs for mowers but if they aren't too bad I opt to clean them instead. Kohler carbs can be tricky to buy the right one due to different choke setups.

@@EllisMowersandmore I may be wrong, however, I think the short choke linkage is not installed correctly. The machine may end up losing that linkage just from use and vibration, etc. Great video cleaning carb tho.

The OEM carbs are better than China after market Kits are high but really it’s the best way to go for most mechanics

Unfortunately I clamped old fuel line too hard. Bought 1/4" orange transparent line from Lowes, too small. Should I try to soften it with a lighter or try to get the black hose line from another store?. Lowes was out so I bought the 10' reel of 1/4", thats too tight

Tractor supply would have the line you need, the black fuel line will work better. You probably got 1/4" OD line vs ID line (diameter)

Any idea why they don’t have a primer for this mower?! I think that’s a real issue getting these started for the first time of the year!

They are an auto choke design for convenience. Try removing the air filter and spraying a little carb spray in the carb intake which might help it start easier for the first time every season.

@@EllisMowersandmorethat I did try. Quite a bit of fluid. I also took the spark plug off and put gas in there lol. Highly doubt its a bad carb. Will check it next. They’re just a pain in the ass to do is all.

Does anyone know what kind of spark plug this mower takes?
