Lawn Edgers Explained! What's the best lawn edger for a lawn care business?
In this video I talk about the different types of gas powered lawn blade edgers that you can use in a lawn care business. We discuss the stick type blade edgers like the attachment capable type machines like ECHO PAS or the Stihl Kombi KM110 with edger attachment featured in the video, and the dedicated stick edgers like the ECHO PE-2620S in both straight shaft edgers or curved shaft edgers styles. I also talk about the bigger walk behind edgers like the Power Trim 200-8 model in this video, as we try to find out whats the best lawn edger for a lawn care business?

I remember using a walk-behind edger in the 80's. If you need muscle to cut through overgrowth, this is what you need.

I've always used a curved shaft but,we just picked up a new 29.5cc straight shaft edger. I like it so much better 😉

Love the golden edge on a stihl stick I work at a park so I can always get away with using it and not having to worry about where the debris is going.

The primary difference between a straight shaft and curved shaft is that the curved shaft has a flexible spring shaft. Whereas the straight shaft has a far more robust solid shaft and drive gear.

I've been looking for a walk behind edger. I have the kombi edger and love it. But I maintain a large apartment complex. 4 units and there are tons of sidewalks. A walk behind sure would make quick work of it. Hard on my shoulders using a stick edger on the whole thing.

Yes that’s exactly when they come in handy and is why I still keep mine around despite not using it for years at a time sometimes. Thanks for watching. I appreciate it.

Pe225 echo curved shaft. Love this edger. Just got it from saving my money. Only thing I can say is a con is the fact of it being a curved shaft when getting around cars and stuff. But it’s well worth the money and a great edger😎

I've only ever owned a little wonder walk behind. Has a killer Kawasaki on it and the thing is super old and decrepit, but still runs. I will say though that I find the walk behind edger to be extremely awkward and cumbersome to use. I feel walk behind edgers should be redesigned with a wider rear axle to stabilize the machine better. I often use lawn edgers along garden beds and once this walk behind edger comes off of a flat surface and your dealing with running it over ground with bumps and whatnot, it's a real struggle to maneuver. It always wants to tip over since the engine is the heaviest part and it just has a very narrow wheelbase. The reason I landed here is thinking about switching to a stick edger and selling the walk behind. I don't use it a ton and wondering if the stick edger is going to be powerful enough to freshen up lines on garden beds. I also want it to be versatile and powerful enough to be able to cut new lines through a lawn to establish new garden beds. Has anyone used one of these for that purpose?

You can certainly buy stick edgers that have more than enough power to cut a new edge. I think the only real advantage for a walk behind is if you have lots of edging to do on each property. Like for example on commercial properties or estates. Then it’s more comfortable to use a walk behind if your edging a city block for example like I’ve seen the gardeners do when visiting Disneyland.

Would you recommend a walk behind or stick type to edge flower beds?

What is the brand or model of the walk behind that you use and is there a better one that you would recommend?

It’s a Power Trim 200-8. I did a video on it. Here’s the link. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-s-iSgY6sWqQ.html I actually prefer using a stick type edger for the residential properties I do and rarely ever use the walk behind anymore. In fact lately I’ve been using the Milwaukee M18 Battery powered quick Lok system with edger attachment and it’s fantastic. Thanks for watching.

Do the stick style blade edgers work well around a curved sidewalk?
@LawnCareBusinessSuccess
@LawnCareBusinessSuccess 2 года назад
Yes so much easier then a walk behind edger. The straight shaft edgers are great for curves. Thanks for watching.

I just got the PAS 225 and still looking to avoid buying it, as I really don't like gas and trying to find a reason to got get a dewalt. But battery is just too weak, battery life is a bit too short.

I love battery and have been using battery more and more. I can use my Milwaukee string trimmer with just 2 batteries to trim and edge 10-12 lawns easy with power to spare. Thanks for watching.

I’ve never used edgers like these. I always used string. Here in Southern California lawns have sprinkler heads at surface level by the edge of the lawn. Almost seems unnecessarily tedious to use an edger when you have to avoid hitting the sprinkler heads. Plus you gotta switch between string and edger for clearing grass by trees and other obstacles. More easier to have the guy with the string to trim it all. Or at least have the guy carry a kombi or PAS system and carry both string and edger attachments instead of having two guys doing pretty much the same task. Plus with the string you can gently hit the sprinkler head without damaging it and still clear the over grown grass. I’ve never seen professional landscape companies here in Southern California use edgers like these. They all use string. I guess our lawns are more tightly manicured that we have no need for straight edgers?
@LawnCareBusinessSuccess
@LawnCareBusinessSuccess 3 года назад
The edgers are necessary for overgrown edges especially. Your not getting a decent edge cutting a new edge with string. Once an edge has been established then yes I agree and use the string trimmer myself for weekly edge maintenance. I usually use the edger on the first cut of the season on each lawn and anytime I get a new customer. I have visited Southern California and I have seen companies use edgers before. In fact I even have a video clip of the maintenance crews at Disneyland using the walk behind edger to edge the lawns at the entrance to the grand California hotel in Disneyland, and you know they are maintaining those lawns more than once a week. Here’s the link to that video. Check it out at the 8:23 mark. Thanks for watching. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-J98ibn-PChU.html

I am tired of using my string trimmer to do edges, every time I screw up I get weeds there.

Understandable. A dedicated blade edger makes nice edges simple. It’s can take years of practice and a ton of concentration to make string trimmer edges look like blade edging. I did a video explaining the technique I use for edging with a string trimmer to get nice straight edges. Here’s a link if your interested. Thanks for watching. The blade is too wide and leaves to large of a grove . Make one half that width and I'd be a buyer.
