That is, of course, if you're doing all the right things first. I'll tell you what those important things are too!

Hey Travis, hope all is well. Question unrelated to the video, with this spell of high temps in the NWA area have you thought about applying your pre-emergent early? I’ve noticed soil temps rapidly approaching 55 degrees and I’m concerned I may miss the window for crab grass germination. Looks like we may have some relief here this week but man it sure is getting warm fast this year! Seems so early to put it out.
@BudgetLawns
@BudgetLawns 7 месяцев назад
Hey man. I would go ahead and apply. I did mine a couple weeks ago. Not because of the warm temps but because I missed my usual January app and was late on it. Kinda worked out with the warmth we're seeing. If I hadn't already put that down, I would definitely be doing so now. I'd rather be a bit early than too late. Hope this helps. Appreciate ya!

My next door neighbor goes heavy on the poisons and my property is mostly organic. A couple years ago, his poisons pushed all his grubs onto my side yard. However, it ended up being a blessing. I tilled up the whole side yard, did a finish regrade on it, and then reseeded with a lot better quality seed. It now humors me how my yard is stupidly greener compared to his. 😂

I have fescue and have grubs. The grubs destroying the lawn are not the problem as they haven't destroyed the lawn. The main problem that I have with grubs is the fact that they turn into Japanese beetles. That being said, I'm treating the the shrubs / perennials that the Japanese beetles love and still not treating the lawn.

@BudgetLawns
@BudgetLawns 7 месяцев назад
I don't know. I don't use insecticides. Read the bag label. It will likely need watered in, so you won't use it at the same time as weed killer. Would prolly want to wait several days to let the weed killer work. Thanks.

Hey Buddy. Definitely a controversial subject. For me I have and always will put down a preventative grub application. Having KBG it’s a no brainer for me. Around here I have seen entire lawns wiped out from grubs. Once they establish themselves it’s over. The damage is already done before you realize you have the problem even as someone who is always on the look out for issues like grubs. I have had grub problems even with putting down a preventative treatment. I figure the problem would have been worse if I hadn’t put down a preventative treatment. I suppose like anything else in lawn care you do what works for you as you learn from season to season what to look out for in your lawn.

Hey bud. Great points for sure. It's definitely dependent on one's past experiences and like you said, grass type. Bermuda is a whole other animal when it comes to fighting stuff off and recovery. And as usual, I'm a bermudagrass guy so that's what I'm mostly referring to. Appreciate ya as always, my friend.

If they had a spray or a bag I could put down for moles I'd be golden. Insects are birds are fine, but not if it means moles. I'd rather salt the earth and asphalt the lawn than have moles. At least that way I'd have more parking spots. I treated several places all over the front and side yards last summer with buried pellets, thought I'd shoe'd them away. And then a couple months ago you'd thought the gauntlet had been thrown down. They're eating something ... a lot of it. With 5 dogs in the backyard I don't treat or do anything to the backyard. Sometimes the dogs will take care of the ones in there, by digging trenches. They're all over this area. Next door neighbor on the left has them, the city park 100 + yards to the right has them all over too.

Thanks, Tex. I’ll take another look next time I go into the big city. Usually what I see are pellets for burying, although a search did bring up fox urine ($17) and coyote urine ($67) … I suppose the coyotes aren’t as agreeable to supplying urine? At any rate, either liquid applied to the front yard would surely send my dogs in the backyard insane lol.

The half life of chlorantraniliprole (probably a typo), the active ingredient in Acelepryn, is very long. 1130 days on the EPA Website. So if you put down the bag rate, you could easily skip a year or two. I will let my little armadillo friends tell me when I need to apply.

Any tips on getting rid of mole(s)? I inherited a mole issue when I bought my new house a couple of years ago. Apparently it went around the neighborhood and has made my lawn it's home. I've tried OTC stuff even the waste of money sound things. Trying to stay away from lethal products since I have a dog and and there are cats, (welcomed) wildlife that visit my yard. I've spent the past few of growing seasons trying to figure out how to get rid of weeds and bring back the lawn but these damn mole hills are aggravating!!!
@BudgetLawns
@BudgetLawns 6 месяцев назад
Bummer. I've never had to cross that bridge. Surprised your dog hasn't taken care of it for ya. Sometimes bigger dogs are great at catching those suckers. I think I have a mole or vole barely creeping into my lawn from the field behind me but not enough to worry about it. If he does come further in, I'd likely try setting a trap. That's about the only way I've seen people have success dealing with them. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

@@BudgetLawns thanks My dog is a wuss!! He'd rather be on the couch. I was hoping one of the roaming cats would help me or even a snake or hawk but no luck. I'm going to try the route of getting rid of their food source with grub killer. If he's still around by the summer it's trap time. Sidenote: Love the vids! We're on the same level of effort and money investment. I want a nice yard without feeling like I'm Walter White mixing up crazy chemicals for one weed or running a full-time lawn care business to make my lawn look like Augusta National.

Always enjoy your videos. I don't think I have grass problems caused directly by grubs, but I do have major problems caused by moles, voles, skunks, opossums, etc. as a result of the grubs being there (there's pretty much a grub anywhere I dig). Up until now i have not used any kind of grub control, but I'm planning to this year (3/4 acre fescue lawn in the country) to see if it will help.
