I have 4 different sets of lawn renovation projects going at various stages of completion but today I wanted to show you the updated progress on everything. After struggling with rain in some of the newly seeded sections I have good germination going and feel comfortable where things are at about 3-4 weeks after seeding kentucky bluegrass. Also featured is my progress after a heavy dethatching, first mow on the perennial ryegrass, and some talk of my irrigation system.

I dethatched the heck out of my lawn with that green works you recommend! Thinned it a ton and it ripped out the POA better than I could have ever imagined! Added compost to help level but I'm just waiting as I put down a pre-emergent to prevent that POA outbreak that took over 20% of my back yard and didn't die thus summer! Sucks I can't seed this year to fill in where the POA was ripped out, but I took my mow height from 4.5" to 2" over a month! Hopefully it keeps the POA at bay and helps to thicken in for next year! 👍

Just FYI the Fiskers reel has just wheels no rollers it is also front discharge. The cut is adjustable from 1-4inches. So it may be easier on your yard if you can find one cheap. It's a pretty cool mower.

Love to see the progress in your yard. I've had a ton of experience with sprinkler system and I'm disappointed that who ever installed your system did not have apposing heads on the street side. it's been my experience that if you don't you will have exact problem you're seeing now. Also the type of heads you're using may be very low spray not like the other one's better that spray flatter but also a consistent, even spray. I never liked those type of heads in your park strip. Just my 2 cents worth.

Your videos have helped a lot! We moved into the countryside of Ohio and we have about an acre and it hasn’t been cared for in a long time so lots of areas that were just dirt and the ground is uneven so this is going to take lots of work but your videos have helped get me on the right track to get started. Thanks!

Dude all natural burlap rolls work amazing instead of the blanket... not a hassle at all to pull up once you want to remove it. It also has very small holes to allow the plant to grow through it

An idea for the seed blankets might be once you get them laid out as flat as possible, soak them pretty good with water and then use your lawn roller to roll them in to make them lay on the ground better. Just an idea, who knows if it would really work. the renos are looking mighty nice, bro!

Those blankets are great for keeping things where you want them but I think they have negatives also. Im definitely no expert but when I used them on a slope it seemed to be keeping the grass from standing up. Kind of like you explained. I very gently removed it and everything took off.

Your strips are having watering issues because the sprinklers don't have complete head to head coverage. There should be a line of heads on the street side that throw to the heads on the sidewalk side, and they should be offset so they form a triangle.

Regarding the inconsistent watering problem. I'm posting this on every YT grass channel: We are spending huge amounts of time and money on inventing new kinds of ferts, chemicals, and grasses. Yet we're still using century old/crappy watering techniques. IMO. NONE of the irrigation systems work properly........NONE!!! What we really need is some kind of irrigation blanket that waters the ENTIRE lawn like a sheet. Where there's ZERO missed spots. I'm thinking of maybe some sort of giant grid like system that can be buried, or suspended an inch above the lawn in the hot summer days. Or when seeding. Whatever it is that you guys can think up. What we're all doing now with above and buried sprinklers is a joke and it DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY!!!!! So I put this challenge to all of you YT grass channels: It's time to invent a modern watering system that covers the lawn evenly and efficiently once and for all.

Do you think you would have avoided the air pockets if you ha used the rolled after laying down the blanket? Also the increased worm activity is caused by the peat moss....worms love peat moss and aged horse manure. I like the Twins cap...I live in Mpls.
@ryanknorrlawncare
@ryanknorrlawncare 5 лет назад
I didn't put any peat on the areas where the worms are the heaviest...just the blanket there but either way my soil is full of them anyway. :) Rolling wouldn't have worked because it's just a light wood fiber blanket and very fragile so any traffic on it while I was putting it in place was already starting to do a little damage. Go Twins!

Hey Ryan love the channel need a bit of advice ... so I live in Ohio I used the Scott’s weed and feed for fall orangish bag... typically I set my broadcast to half and walk east to west and then north to south to not cause fert stripes in my yard ... today I set the spreader to the recommended 3.5 and did what I normally do... I ended up getting distracted and forgot to set it to 1.75 ... I have a blend of perennial rye and bluegrass and now I’m afraid of fert burn.... should I be worried or not ... did it tonight before dark. Want your advice and thoughts.... regards John

Them seed blankets are complete shit. Did they initially work to get seedlings going yes. Mine started getting them bubbles as well and then i noticed the new grass barely could penetrate the blanket. The air pockets was bound up grass that was getting smothered by the blanket. After 3 weeks i investigated and started hand removing the blanket. I found most of my new grass died off because the blanket smothered it. Even worse the blanket trapped in too much water and created a disgusting white mold all over my lawn which also killed it off. Ill go the old fashion way next time with some straw.

On the KBG side yard how many days post seeding was this video shot? Growth looks really good. Maybe you said and I missed it. Doing my first all KBG renovation and trying to be patient with mine (Mazama, bewitched, and midnight)

I think 17? It has come in very well but not growing much. Typical for bluegrass

Ryan Knorr Lawn Care I need your help! I just got a brand new home and obviously needs grass, my question is at this time of the year, do you suggest seeding or just wait until next year and if so, when would be the best time? I live in Indianapolis by the way... thanks in advance!!!!

You are bordering on it being slightly late but it could still be done...if you get something in place now you can always continue to work on it next year

How long did it take for that kbg to get that higher after you seeded? Mine has been 3 weeks now it’s probably still barely 1/2” tall yet. It’s being very pokey lol.

Ryan, do you think you could have rolled the blanket down ? Or would it it tear ?

It was fragile so I think it would have caused issues

Hope this might help if he doesn't answer. It does work but usually has quite a bit of weed seeds. Other than that not to bad it just sometimes takes a while break down.

Straw can work I just haven't liked how long it took to break down in the past

the reel mower may have one blade that is slightly offset from the rest, this is what is causing the ripple effect when you cut
