The Lawrence County High School Red Devils shutout the visiting West Point Warriors 15-0 in a Tri-County Conference meeting on October 1, 1982. The two teams fought to a scoreless tie until late in the third quarter when holder Donald Vance completed a two-yard touchdown pass to placekicker Sheldon Wallace on a faked field goal attempt. Octavius Hamilton's two-point conversion gave the Red Devils an 8-0 lead. Patrick Echols put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter with a 72-yard touchdown run, followed by Wallace's successful PAT. Echols and Lymos Young combined for 203 yards rushing for the Devils, and the Red Devil defense recorded a second consecutive shutout for the first time since 1974.
Coach Andy Montgomery's 1982 LCHS Red Devils finished the season 6-4 - the only winning season at LCHS in the 15 years between 1975 and 1991.
This is the game film, with play-by-play as called on WHIY 1190-AM by the longtime voice of Lawrence County High School sports Benny Williams, with Danny Young, Neal Norwood and James Johnson.
