Somewhere there's a video where the the QB throws a short pass to the receiver, but the receiver intentionally drops it because LT was about to rip his head off. I love that clip. If someone could find it, that'd be awesome! I'd wait to see if it's in this video but I only made it 7 minutes in
I never cease to marvel at the athletic genius of the man. It's as if the rest of the field is in slow motion. Instinctive and the best defensive player in the history of the sport......by a country mile
Some of these plays seem to defy the laws of physics, and are downright impossible for any other player. How many NFL players could pressure the passer at the start of a play, then make the tackle on a completed pass 15-20 yards away at the end of the same play? On some of these plays it looks like the Giants have 12 guys on the field because Taylor pretty much plays two different positions: pass-rushing end for 3-5 seconds, then strong safety for the next 3-5 seconds. Unbelievable.
Daniel Kelegian Yes! Line of scrimmage is the giants 40. He rushes the passer, ending up at the Giants 48, and makes the tackle after the completed pass at the Giants 22 yard line. Are you kidding me?
Yeah his biggest highlights of course are his sacks and pass rushing but he was also excellent in pass coverage and run coverage. He had the ability to run down screen plays and off tackle runs away from him from behind.
And at 240 lbs, he could have legit played all 3. Even DE. Fred Dean was only 230, and Jack Youngblood only a little heavier at 245. Both fellow HOFers.
I''m glad this was posted b/c all the other LT tribute vids show almost exclusively QB sacks. The thing that impressed me even more w/LT was his ability to rush the passer and switch courses in midstream and make the tackle on the ball carrier. Nobody else has ever been able to do that anywhere near as well as LT.
What I noticed in all of the hits he made. The receivers that dropped the ball were never waving their hands at the ref or crying or whining for PI. This was when football was raw and fantastic. Now I'm stuck with Goodell and his No Fun League.
Super-human. I watched his whole career, I saw just about every game he played and I am still in awe when I see these plays, I'm still shaking my head thinking, "How is this possible?" G.O.A.T.
How can a man play such a ferocious and relentless style and never get called for a dirty or late hit? Watch LT hit QB's from behind. Never did he go out of his way to hurt them, NEVER!. Everything he did he did better then all the rest.
This should also be an instructional video on how to "tackle." LT never played looking to "light guys up." He tried to take the ball carrier to the ground. He never launched himself with his head down, his arms close to his chest while aiming high and trying to remain on his feet while the ball carrier or receiver was layed out. He kept his head up and aimed it across the body, wrapped his arms and let his body weight drag the guy to the ground. He almost ALWAYS ended up on the ground along with the player he tackled. 1:00 1:50 2:05 2:42 4:33 5:02 6:35 7:32 8:16 9:25 9:32 9:38 10:15
The greatest defensive player in the history of the game, hands down. The only defensive player that could dominate at all three levels, pass rush, run defense and pass defense, nobody has done that.
If LT had half as many sacks, he still would have been a HOFer. The most complete LBer to ever play the game. He was elite in pass coverage AND as a run defender. Fans who never saw him play don't realize calling LT just a 'pass rusher' or a stand up DE are severely underselling his overall game.
though stats dont tell the whole story they help. Thats why this guys videos are great as the show the real stats that were not kept well back then. One thing that sticks out is that when you compare all the " next LTs". or his competition. ie. tippet swilling wilson green thomas miller suggs ware ....... some have comparable sack numbers even more in one case but their sack rate are all lower with exception of maybe thomas but I am not sure but then when you look at tackles and most literally dont have half the number of tackles.. the only one that ever measures up but who is ALWAYS over looked is rickey jackson... and though its too early to tell micah parsons ... the giants will regret passing him up unless the trade produces perennial all pros
The JJ Watt fanatics who want to put him ahead of LT as the GOAT need to watch all these LT highlight videos and educate themselves. You couldn't possibly be a better player than Taylor. Perfect tackler, fast as a wide receiver, quick as a scatback, a brick wall coming at you at 20mph. Anyone who remembers the game tecmo bowl remembers you could just use Taylor and no matter which way the other team ran or threw you could make the tackle with LT. Seemed ridiculous until u realize he did it in real life.
I'll go further than that with LT on tecmo bowl you could block FGs with him too that's how fast he was. No one ever defensively could be ahead of him until Watt wins a mvp award then everyone needs to stfu. LT is still the only defensive player to win the award.
***** LT is the second defensive player to win it. Alan Page was the first in 1971. Also yes,the Watt fanatics need to chill. Let Watt do what he does for 10-12 years and THEN we can talk. Till then STFU.
One thing I notice: when LT tackled guys they didn't go ANY further than where he hit them. Amazing. A consummate finisher of plays who didn't understand the word "quit".
I am struck by the strength and athleticism of LT. He would grab running backs with a single hand and fling them as if they were paper weights. He was fast, as fast as many backs and receivers, and hit with tremendous force. LT was a Swiss army knife linebacker, he could rush the QB, with the best of them, he could and did play the run tremendously, running down backs on the complete opposite side of the filed that he was lined up on, and he was excellent in pass coverage. You didn't have to concern yourself with tight-end coverage miss-matches with LT on the field. Truly, one of the greatest to ever play
Huge thanks for putting together and posting this and your other terrific LT videos. It's great to be able to watch these highlights of this astonishing football player.
***** It's my pleasure (you did all the great work---I'm just enjoying it!). . And, I love the brief commentaries you end some of your LT videos with. They are truly fitting.
@@johnsmith3091 mr.smith,lt made an unbelievable play against the eagles in 1982.he had hos white jersey on and was going left to right.he caught wilbert montgomery from behind in pursuit.he ran like 35 yards.the thing is pat summerrall said whittington made the play.it was lt,only player in the league that could have made that play.any way you could get that play on youtube?
@@johnsmith3091, first, thank you again for your work. Thanks to you Taylor’s true forced fumble record has been updated. And not just the career total, you broke it down by season. Is there any chance you have enough video to assess his career tackle totals?
Notice his tackling form is spotless. He does shoulder a guy he goes right through him. He lays the hammer down and his instincts and speed and drive are super-human. Anytime someone wants to compare any defensive player to LT they should be forced to watch this highlight reel as they must have forgotten.
I hope those stupid ass writers who said that he was just a good pass rusher see this video, awesome player! Best defensive player ever, with Dick Butkus and Ronnie Lott being close behind
dick carr......I think Lott doesn't get enough shine for his play due to coming into the league in the same draft with Lawrence Taylor. I can't name another cornerback who transitioned as well Lott to a hard-hitting safety other than Rod Woodson. Lott was essentially Deion Sanders who could lay guys out. Lott actually has more career interceptions than Sanders. Incredible.
@@byrongammonbyrongammon9937 Also people tends to hold his lack of DPOTY award against him, ignoring that it's hard to win the award when you're playing in the era where LT and Singletary were gobbling literally half a decade supply of them.
Beast !!! Rushing from the inside , rushing from the outside , on coverage ... LT was everywhere ! They would even line him up at the cornerback position at times ! Teams had to change their whole game plan because of him ! I watched his whole career and he is hands down , the best defensive football player of all time and arguably the best football player of all time ...
The most complete defensive player the game has ever seen. Freakish strength backed with speed. He knew when to rush or drop back in coverage. He didn't stop till the whistle was blown. You can see in the video how many times he would come from opposite side of the field. Read his opponent beautifully. His tackles were clean and hard always laying the hammer down to strip the ball as he wrapped the guys up. To think they had to always double team him on the rush losing the end and the TE every time and that only worked a little. Think I just convinced myself he is possibly the best player across the board all time. LT LT LT LT LT
Good Lord, @3:33....Lawrence Taylor rushes upfield...engaged with a blocker...then reverses course.....to disrupt the pass to RB Roger Craig out of the backfield.....his position should be MD.....’Mad Dog’.
BTW, LT was picked 2ND in the first round of the 1981 draft. When George Rogers was picked first, the late George Young did cartwheels, at least that's the story. *HAHA
***** Been a die hard fan since I was six (1978). The first football game I ever watched was the Miracle at the Meadowlands, LOL!!. Although I lived five minutes from Shea, the Giants are my team because of that game and the fact that my family had season tickets to the NY Cosmos from 1977-1982 at Giant Stadium, so the Giants became my team. Funny how things work. Love the videos BTW.
Seriously and ever notice how some of them does so just so they can pump up their own LB? Steelers fans especially from what I had encountered as well as Ray Lewis fans though that can be chalked up to them being prisoners of the moment since it had somewhat died down after 2013. Then there's the Derrick Thomas fan boys.
11:29 is the definition of having an endless motor. Play that to high school players as an example of playing intensity. That was like a hunting dog going after a rabbit....
That's the way you play outside backer! Let the will backer get after it! stop trying to drop him off in coverage! Let him go get the QB! GO LT the greatest defender of all time.
3:31, that's the signature play of a sellout. He was the greatest defender I've ever seen. 12 yards upfield and has the vision to eye a RB 10 yards behind him as he looks at Montana and still gets there in time to make sure the pass wasn't caught.
Keith Falconer.....I'd rate him above Jordan. He played without the ball and damn near dominated games. He forced both opposing coaches and his own coaches to count for what he could do on the football field. He had no weaknesses to his game. Tough to name another player who wasn't a QB or a RB that could take over a game.
Who said LT was just a pass rusher? That is a comical assessment. Buddy Ryan would dis Taylor then spend four hours a day in practice week before Giant s game working out schemes to deal with him....usually including two helmets on him every play.
