Lawyer vs. Aerospace Engineer...Who's Smarter??

I put my almost-finished law degree to the test by quizzing my husband on law concepts while he tests my (very desultory) knowledge of engineering! Who will win this contest of wills (but not trusts?? lawyer joke!!!)
All bad jokes aside, I have SO much respect and awe for the work my husband does. I always tell people that pretty much anyone who can read and write well can become a lawyer (so he easily could), but I could never in a million years calculate launches into space...

...different types of intelligences ... cross comparisons are hard to quantify and there are natural gifts that play into these... who's gift is stronger? once again, hard to quantify. I am a forensic psychologist with an eye for details as a former investigator.

do you actually believe this bullshit, a lawyer couldn't have known answers to engineering detailed terminology unless they learn them ....let alone their definitions.

You based your anwser not from in anwsering the aerospace questions not based of actually knowledge of the subject but understanding your bf's field, experiences, and intuitive use of logic to middle out which are the most likely anwsers or it may have been lucky guesses and claim you knew what you were talking about which is a pretty common thing.

Well, I got 3 out of 6, which I'm not ashamed of. But you know who might be smartest of all? A patent lawyer at say, NASA or Raytheon, working through the intricate logic of all the science. Just my guess, if the science questions on the LSAT are any indication.
@pugboi8017
@pugboi8017 3 года назад
but why? a patent lawyer is generally just a science major, albeit usually a physics or engineering major who copped out to do law. There are actually scientists at NASA who are responsible for the patents...
@bgates275
@bgates275 3 года назад
@@pugboi8017 I can't speak much to this, but I do remember a conversation whereby I recall someone saying that to work on a patent, at like say Merck, one would require both a Phd and a law degree. You could also be right though, as I knew someone with their undergrad in engineering who coauthored a science article that was published. That being said, why downplay physics and engineering, or law for that matter, with words like 'only', 'just', and 'copped out'? When the class averages have IQ's around 125 to 130, you are bound to find some exceptionally bright people, even if they never got their Phd. The fact is that there isn't always a motivation to get a Phd in these fields, when jobs are already so obtainable without one. For the record though, I never mentioned a Phd. Combine the quantitative abilities of these STEM majors, with the verbal abilities to become a lawyer (from a high caliber school) and perhaps you can begin to appreciate the level of intellect that a patent lawyer could possess.

Fun game - but, a better & more fairer game would be to compare intellects in a separate field of study - outside of one's specialty (law & engineering) - like medicine, business, anthropology, world history. literature, etc.....

Not many engineering questions are multiple choice on definitions. I’m not sure how law school questions are posed. If you guys ever do this again maybe try posing like 3 questions from random exams you find online in your respective fields

The second physics question is essentially a logic question. If e were right, then d is right. Since only one choice can be right, then e is wrong. The difference between d and e is c, so c is wrong. There is not really any difference between a and b, therefore d is most likely right.
