There a a murder of a woman in this town that had some rather unusual things to it. A homicide detective investigated but while they had evidence of the perpetrator they had no way of finding him as he was not in any database. The case went cold and was set aside. A few years later the detective was reading a crime novel and the murder in the book matched his cold case perfectly. Even down to the location the victim was found, and the victim's name. The author was questioned and samples taken for comparison and they matched. Dumb ass wrote about a real life murder her had committed then had it published where anyone could read it.
Not sure what specific book OP was referring to, but a quick Google search (for me at least) gave half-dozen cases of murderer outing their self in published writings - dating from modern to a few hundred years ago. Additional links to articles discussing how frequently criminal's actual crimes get shared through their works (be they social media posts, letters, books, videos, photos, songs, etc) were also among the first page results... so, seems far from far-fetched.
Rear ended a guy when I was in my early 20s. Cops comes, talks to both of us, we exchange insurance info, and cop sends guy on his way. Cop: how are you going to plead when you go to court? Me: well it was my fault, so guilty. Cop: No, innocent. He's not going to show up and I'm sure as hell not gonna show up.
There are two kinds of lawyers: 1. Lawyers that will do anything they can to get a verdict favoring their side. 2. Lawyers that want to find the truth.
Lawyers present everything possible to help their client, but it's judges who find the truth. Lawyers shouldn't lie because that's just a bad thing to do (and a dumb thing to do because of the risk of disbarment), but they should present their client's side as clearly as possible and present everything legally available to show their client has a right that deserves protection.
I always get a kick out of the readers saying " they stole their id" instead of their i.d. I always have this mental picture of someone's id being stolen and the person is left with only their ego and super ego. lol
Idk why but the lawyer AskReddit threads seem to be my favorite. That and the bad roommate ones. There are so many great terrible roommate stories on Reddit it’s insane.
Mine are Drill Sergeant punishments. These are perhaps the most creative humans on the planet in coming up with ways to embarrass someone. Can and will recommend them!
That misdemeanor possession case is so dumb. It's clearly his mom's car with his mom's pills in it. He never claimed they were his. Like... That's so stupid NOT to assume that first.
My dad is disabled (severe foot damage, he live on pain killers, but can work, walk, etc. Just not carrying lots of heavy things or doing intensive physical work, hes a dental lab tech, sitting at a desk all day making teeth) right after he was granted his insurance claim, they started shadowing him, and eventually took him into a meeting in an interrogation room with his doctor. Showed the video of "my dad" carrying around and spreading dozens of large bags of fertilizer for over 2 hours in our front lawn. Asked the doc what he thought. Doc said "Looks fine to me, my patient is sitting right there in a lawn chair drinking a beer and smoking a cigar while his son does yard work, exactly what he should be doing." Insurance guys were shocked, they had shadowed my 20 something year old half brother (from my mom, not even related to my dad at all and looks nothing like him!) instead of my 40 something year old dad.
Cop finds drugs in dude's car. Cop,:"What were you planning to do with this? Sell it?" Dude: "Why, are you buying?" Arrested for possession with intent to distribute.
Just happened to me a few months ago. Got a torn ligament in my shoulder about a year and a half ago. Didn't know for a year but finally got it fixed with surgery. It wasn't major and my family has an insanely high pain tolerance. So within 48 hours I was feeling fine and was off pain meds, but, I'm not allowed to lift my arm up v ry much at all for 4 weeks to let everyone hung heal up properly so I cannot go to work for at least 6 weeks (therapy so I don't move too much to quick). Like I said I felt great with no pain, was just in a sling and a coworker saw me at Wal Mart a couple times and instead of reporting to HR that I looked fine cuz of that, they instead said I went dirtbike riding and they saw me at a local track. Without investigation my workplace terminated my employment and refused my PTO and sick pay. So I sued for the sick pay, PTO, and a months salary. They brought in pictures of a guy with a bike that look d similar to mine and for some reason they took a picture of the serial number of the bike. All I had to do was show them the serial number of my own bike, a receipt from an applebees 2 hrs away from the track that I was at on the supposed date that I was riding and I got the amount in full. Got a new job now and couldn't be happier.
yeah, that coworker definitely had something against you or the company simply wanted you gone. Especially since they didn't actually investigate. In my country that alone is grounds for a wrongful termination lawsuit
24:50 Worked as a retail security guard for a few months years ago. The company - run by an ex police detective - also did undercover stuff (hidden cameras etc). A guy was caught red handed with his fingers in the till and was sacked immediately. After the store chain refused to give him a reference for other retail work, he went to tribunal claiming racial discrimination. He ended up with a criminal record.
I used to deliver news papers very early in the morning. I had one traffic light that was always red and took a long time to change. Usually I would stop, check for traffic then turn left even if the light was still red. One morning about 3 am Sunday morning I saw a car several blocks down the road so after I stopped I continued on. As I pulled through the intersection the other car passed under a street light and I saw it was a cop. It is still illegal to run a red light even at 3 am so I just pulled over and waited. A few seconds later the cop comes around the corner at very high speed and accelerated hard before realizing I had been waiting. He skidded to a stop then backed up to pull in behind me. I knew I was getting a ticket and was planing to argue that it is pointless to not treat a red light as a stop sign when there is no traffic about, but the cop was cool and let me go with a "Don't let me catch you doing that again." Well, he never caught me doing so it worked out in the end. He did say he was surprised to see me waiting. I just said, "I knew you caught me. Trying to evade would just get me more charges. Turned out the cop agreed that waiting for a light to change was pointless when no traffic was out.
For some reason, people with schizophrenia can be quite reasonable and well put together if you roll with their perception of reality for a while. Sometimes I wonder if they're not right, on some weird meta-level.
6:00 - the sad part is that these sorts of claims are usually due to an attorney poorly advising their client to try to milk the alleged injury as much as possible, rather than getting a medical reference of any immediate and down-the-line medical costs of the injury, rehabilitation, etc. My dad's lawyers basically told him he shouldn't do anything at all while they dragged out a Workers Comp case over 10 goddamn years. Not only did they fuck it up, they advised him to take a not-exactly-generous lump sum instead of regular payments. I had to help him rehabilitate, he wasn't able to walk down the street without getting exhausted.
My dad was pulled over. He has a slight cross eye for which he's had surgery and is able to see and is medically cleared to drive with. He also had recently been cleared to drive after back surgery, but still had balance issues. Needless to say, the cop thought when he looked in my dad's eyes and did the field someone test that he got my dad. Then he breathalyzed my dad, 0.00. He pulled out the straw from the breathalyzer and threw it on the ground... Luckily my dad didn't get in trouble for the next thing he said, "are you littering?"
A kind of law loop hole: In the UK the law for theft is the appropriation of property belonging to another with intention to permanently deprive. Meaning taking and using someone stuff or using it how the owner would and intending to keep it or leave it in the used condition forever. This means you can very easily take something from a store, and claim you didnt mean to take it and then return it, so you did not have intention and you also did not permanently deprive them of the thing as well.
Not a lawyer, but spoke with one about purchasing a used car. I had traded in my car for a used car, asked the salesman if I could get an independent diagnostic on the car. I was told, "No. We have our own mechanics check our cars before they come on the lot. They are all in good shape." Car was found to have cracked heating manifold under the shield, a non-stock catalytic converter so purchasing a replacement heating manifold was impossible without first purchasing the stock catalytic converter, the oil pan leaked profusely, and one of the solenoid in the automatic transmission that regulates fluid pressure to shift gears was shot so it would shift from 3rd to 2nd without warning. The total cost to replace all parts were well over the cost of the car. The lawyer said I had a case, and sent a letter to the dealer. A check was cut for me that month. Bought a used car off Craigslist that was rear-ended four months later by company box truck. Won that case, and was awarded enough money to put a down payment on a new car. Still have it, and living well now. This is how you profit from stupid.
Not a lawyer, but an interesting situation I experienced. I rented a car from Enterprise while my car was in the shop getting repairs. During this time, I also got the insurance package that covers the accidental damage (of course, this is if the driver is also the person who rented the car). The day the car was to be returned to Enterprise, my mom parked the rental, went inside a store, and during this time, a truck backed out of a parking spot running into the rental causing damage. When she took the car back to Enterprise, we were instructed that because she was driving the car, the insurance that I opted for was invalidated, therefore, we needed to front $1,000 until insurance could be claimed. I called BS, gave him the $80 I had in my pocket, and said that'll have to do. Later, I received an email stating that I needed to bring in the remaining $920, complete the attached accident forms, and other forms. I reviewed all documents, and my mother's story, then wrote an email along the lines of the following: 1) The insurance I opted for covers accidental damage if the driver is the same as the renter. 2) The car was parked, and vacated during the time the accident occurred. 3) During the time the car was parked and vacated, no one was driving the vehicle, thus, the insurance coverage reverts to the covered renter listed in the agreement, and is therefore valid. No further emails, no case, my $80 was quickly refunded to me. If someone is trying to convince you they are owed money by you, verify their legitimacy before making a decision to compensate. If you are unsure, bring all your documents, notes, photos, videos, etc to legal council for another opinion. Whether or not you should use legal council is simple; *cost of* using legal council, legal letter fees, court fees < paying compensation outright < consequences of not paying compensation, taken to court, pay compensation, court fees, and council fees anyway. (this excludes having everything under your control, and just need to argue they have no ground to stand on, no compensation/no consequence situation; which is typically a cost of time and effort on your part)
I got hit for a posession charge with almost the exact same circumstance. It was my wife's prescription, in the bottle. The cop found it on the passenger side floor. The cop saw them fall out of her purse when she asked her to step out of the car and still arrested me for it. Obviously that's not what was written on the police report and both her body cam and car cam "malfunctioned" so no footage. The charge was ultimately dropped but I had to plea guilty to the DUI. I was sitting in my car having a smoke, in front of my in-laws house, with the keys in my pocket, and the hood stone cold (proof the car was not even started at any point near the time of the stop). I even had 3 witnesses stating I was there all night and I passed a polygraph my attorney asked me to take. A drug charge would have cost me my job and pension so it would have been a huge risk to fight. Between the lawyer, fines, and other related things cost me almost $20,000. TLDR: Had to plea guilty to a DUI I was innocent of to have a drug posession charge dropped which I was also innocent of.
A story of my own that I heard from a guy I used to work with, guy got injured badly on the job, hurt his back or his neck, something like that, so was getting workman's comp and whatnot, guy goes on honeymoon in Mexico for like a month, two weeks into his trip, he gets a call from attorneys from his work, letting him know his worker's comp was being rescinded and he was gonna need to go to court, as apparently, they managed to tail a guy that looks like him, has the same tattoo and whatever else, but is not him. They had just filmed stuff that day, in Michigan, and he's just goes, "Oh really? That's strange, because I'm in Mexico.". That shut em up real quick.
'"Maybe it's maybeline" just reminds me when years ago a 16 or something year old girl became viral on our native "reddit" (a forum like reddit but it was a thing long before reddit), who had stuck a maybeline eyeliner or something like that up their *ahem* sewage hole and took a photo of it and that became viral. ...Same girl also dated a older guy who was a sell-alcohol-to-young-kids type of guy. Would be funny to see someone recognising her and saying "maybe it's maybeline" just to see the reaction.
The whole you can't just put a "we're not liable" sign up and be ok is so true in the UK. Precautions which is things like trying to mop a wet floor or putting up caution signs etc is just one of about four main defences in tort law (sueing for PI) and so just a sign would DEFO not win a case
Got pulled over for being a hillbilly driving in the ghetto because my drunk passenger fell asleep while giving me directions and had to explain to the cop that I could not give him my insurance paperwork from the glove box because there is a 357 Magnum in there he then asked me if it was loaded I told him hell no not with his drunk self sittin there the cop open the door to secure it and he fell out of the truck on his face turns out the whole time this is going on everybody at the party is watching us and I was in the right neighborhood
If you are getting ready to stop watching this without watching the whole thing _please_ just skip ahead to the 1 hour 2 minute mark and listen to that story real quick- it is actually important to know that this is how the so-called justice system in the U.S. functions, and while everyone in the U.S. _should_ know that this is how it works, most people do not. Maybe if more people become aware of what really goes on in our courts we can actually do something to change it.
39:26 Oh WOW. *I completely* agree with the husband on this. I struggle so much with bright lights when I try to sleep, and sometimes my anxiety disorder makes it REALLY hard for me to even keep my eyes shut. You know what I do to combat this? It's a truly magical thing, so NO WONDER the man never thought of this. I use... A SLEEPING MASK! And just like that the majority of my troubles were gone! *IT'S A FRIGGIN' MIRACLE!* Jesus Christ, this guy. I don't care if he's "eccentric", this is such a mundane issue and there's a MILLION different ways it could have been handled THAT DON'T INVOLVE FORCING YOUR SPOUSE OUT OF THEIR OWN ROOM. I MEAN GEEZ. THIS IS A FIRST WORLD ISSUE EVEN FOR *CHILDREN.* I'm sorry, I had to get that out. Thanks for taking a moment to read this, and have an awesome day~!
IIRC, in Louisiana, there is a valid defense of "he needed killing". But it has been many moons since I grew up there. Also, my family was told by the sheriff of the parish that we were in that "as long as there was no blood, we could kill my younger brother.". You have no idea how much I really wanted to do it. He was such a monster.
In Ohio they tell you to make sure there's only one story to be told and to drag the body in the house before you call them. Peroxide will destroy ask evidence of blood, hemoglobin and all
Basically, no matter what the case, it is always a bold legal strategy to say "I do not recognize the authority of this court" I am just following the law of the street. for the freedom
45:09. I'm not OCD about it but I just don't like needless travel either. Needless travel for me is say "Going three states over because you're bored" or "going next state over to go to a restaurant that is either in town or withing a few towns over".
Basically, a landlord who sues a tenant who is a victim of domestic violence because she screams so loudly and because the police and an ambulance are called should be sentenced to pay a large fine to the tenant and also the same amount for misusing legal remedies
39:04 In sickness and in health, til disinterest do you part. "Do you, Ming the Merciless, take this Earthling, Dale Arden, to be your Empress of the hour?" "Of the hour, yes!"
Point of clarification: No volcanoes have erupted on mainland Australia since European arrival. But Aborigines have witnessed eruptions. There are dormant and extinct volcanoes in every Australian state. The ones in the south are younger. It's possible that the Australian plate moved south to north over a hotspot at one time. And Heard Island and the McDonald Islands, near Antarctica but belonging to Australia, are active. There is a basic summary at www.ga.gov.au/scientific-topics/community-safety/volcano for more information.
Yes, drug possession taken to trial. Prosecutor asked there witness to explain how they know the defendent. Thinking they knew everything about witness but never found out why they were testifying against the accused. They reply, " when we were in high school he ripped me of on a gram of coke I sold him". Went from possession with intent to distribute, to a simple possession charge.
0:45 I've seen this story a number of time in videos like this and it is several years old. It is also 100% real. OP is a friend IRL and I consulted with him on the case before he filed the small claims lawsuit.
Not to call "liar" or nothing but that landlord evicting the dv victim case has some holes in the narrative. the judge wouldn't Rule in OP's favour immediately after opening. Did he just leave out the trial and focus on the outcome? I don't know but the way he put it in the post has a lot missing from opening to ruling. I absolutely believe shit like that happens though. Landlords be dumb sometimes. Also, that opposing lawyer probably felt just as OP did. Lawyers have legal ways of sabotaging shitty clients while still giving them rigorous advocation. Sabotage isn't the right word but it's all my brain can find right now
lol, it doesn't matter that the landlord owns the apartment. Entering without your consent is an invasion of privacy at best. Well, I shouldn't assume anything about US law, but it is over here. It's a felony, there's no legal grounds for them to do so, I think there's not even legal grounds for checkup visits, except that they can chose to not renew the contract if you're on limited time. We aren't. There's no way for our landlords to legally enter our apartment without us inviting them in and they have no keys (they can't legally keep a spare key and we changed the locks either way because I don't trust magnetic cylinders)
Really don’t blame the nightlight guy. How can a grown person not live without a nightlight? If your wife would rather you sleep apart than have her not have her nightlight, that’s just a child
If you've not had any alcohol but test positive on the breathalyzer, ask for a ride to the ER, lights and siren. You've got diabetes and are close to coma.
I almost agree with the dog story. Selfish man who doesn't give a shit about the consequences of his actions, I could never forgive someone who despite complaints feeds my dog to death.
I am pretty open minded, but the one with the guy who persisted in wanting his wife to urinate on him despite her extreme reluctance was.... Really weird and disrespectful. People need to be honest about stuff like this before marriage.
Was in court in 2012. Witnessed a then lawyer, (now judge) get this poor girl out of trouble for drunkenly stealing hundreds in candy etc from a local gas station. There is video evidence of the girl knocking things over and falling while stuffing a sports bag full of literally anything. Mind you this lawyer has a lisp. Imagine hewow my name is wary week attorney at waw. So there watching the video evidence and I shit you not. The lawyer says, now your auhner. Would you not say that the woman in the video is more well endowed than the woman before you here today. With that speech inpedamat l's to w's. The judge responds with, "excuse me?." So the lawyer repeats what he said. The judge froze for about 20-30 seconds and dismissed the case. It was all I could do to not burst out laughing while watching this as well as pretty much everyone else in court. Including the judge.
37:57 this one made the husband seem almost endearing. He loved his wife, and loved getting peed on by her, to the point where he was willing to get a bigger tub installed just to make things easier. Weird fetish, but to each their own. But then they mentioned the horse and it's just....no. Not cool, man.
1of my buddys told me a couple Xs,speaking about his wife, how "i love her to wizz all over my chest" ver batum,in his NY accent.fukn hilarious 2 hear this & other kinda shit from him, crazy as F.but also i feel bad 4 the ppl that got sum aweful toilet fetishes.or evn worse!!nevr heard details from him about if this "wizzing" wuld take place in their bed,or a bathtub hopefully,or sumother location suited 2 handle being wizzed on w/minimal collateral damage.
I needed to pause the video to properly process the part about the guy obsessed with "watersports". Like real talk not kink shaming but that is something you should make sure your partner is comfortable with.
