The Lay Carmelites are an important part group of the Carmelite Family. They have been a source of strength for my vocational journey in Carmel for many years. Today, I wanted to do a video expressing my thanks and gratitude for these amazing people, by helping others to know how amazing they are! Find their local website below.
Please make sure to like the video and subscribe to the channel and help this Carmelite ministry grow!

My grandmother on my Mom's side was a Third Order Carmelite in the Philippines. My Mom told me my grandma "sponsored" many of the postulants/novices of the local cloister. When my grandma died, she was dressed by the sisters in a full habit.

Don’t forget the Order of Carmelite Discalced Seculars, Father. We, also have 6 years of Formation. I love that all Carmelites are united as family, both Ancient and Discalced. This year our formation is interrupted d/t COVID-19, until we can meet in person. But is it really an interruption? We will be studying and growing toward sainthood, always. I enjoy that we meet on Zoom for our classes, in the meantime. I love that you love us, Father. I love your service to the Catholic Church.

This video is exactly what I was looking for, thank you! A friend just invited me to pray about her 3rd Order group. I have always felt like I should be a Carmelite. I discerned a religious vocation as a Carmelite years and years ago. I never lost that feeling even though I now have a wonderful husband and three sons. Glory be to God! He is good.

I read the blogs by Connie Rossini/Contemplative Homeschool. She is a lay Carmelite, and has written some books with Dan Burke, and guest appearances on EWTN. Connie's specialty is writing about the Carmelite Saints (especially St Teresa of Avila) and their form of Mental (St Therese of Lisieux) or Contemplative prayer. Connie does well in writing against Centering prayer, in a way that is understandable for the average person. After learning some about St Teresa of Avila, I listened to "The Way of Perfection" and "Interior Castle" on Audiobook. I had already become quite familiar with St Edith Stein and knew that her final decision to become a Catholic was after a night of reading a book about St Teresa of Avila. I recently learned that Edith's sister Rosa who became a lay Carmelite was living at the Convent with Edith when she decided they should try to go to Switzerland. It was trying to get a passport for Rosa that tied them up, as Edith had already been issued a passport but would not leave without her sister. I have no problem identifying with St John of the Cross and the dark night of the soul. But I could never, and not many people can live up to the standards of mortification practices of John, St Francis, St Clare of Assissi etc.......

The church has these saints. Learn from them don’t become them. Become like Christ.

@@TheFrankFriar That is proper counsel, thank you! I love St Paul who wrote: Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God; consider the outcome of their life, and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:7-8

Beautiful talk, Father. I am an OCDS and I belong to the Community of Mary Immaculate, Sydney. How I wished more Priests become contemplatives like the Carmelites, Benedictines and Cistercians to have more holy priests. Secular priests are too much into this world that although they are priests, they have lost their sense of being quiet and still, always going to and fro, getting busy and fatigued for worldly things.

I have two questions Fr.: When you see older photos of Carmelites, the habit seems to be heavier, maybe a woollen material, however nowadays the habit seems very light and most carmelites I see wear shirts and pants underneath (when they are actually wearing the habit) which makes the habit seem less like clothing and more like a kind of afterthought. Do you have any thoughts on this? And secondly, do Carmelite friars do Eucharistic Adoration? I heard they do not, so just curious. Thanks. :)

Hi Father. Can you explain contemplative prayer to me or refer me to any video you have made to help me. Is it possible to have contemplative prayer when your heart feels empty? Maybe I shouldn’t have posted my question on this video but I need to know the answer. Thanks. Keep up the great work.

It does us much good to look into the soul of saints and then to follow them through faith right up to Heaven; there, they are all luminous with the light of God, whom they contemplate face to face for all eternity!… The Heaven of the saints is our homeland. It is the Father’s House where we are awaited, where we are loved, where one day we, too will be able to fly and rest in the bosom of Infinite Love! ~St. Elizabeth of the Trinity, Letter 184 Contemplation is a gift given by God to a person. It is a gift of relationship of resting with God in an intimate way he allows. Our meditation and prayer life opens us up to and strengthens our ability to say yes, when God wants to give the gift of his presence to us. God allows us to see or know him a way that we could never achieve ourselves and our ability to express it is difficult, because his grace goes beyond words. This is where mystics and the language they use aid us. I hope my simple thoughts help you here is a video in general about prayer, but I have not covered the topic of contemplation in detail yet. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6ld2V8CcWys.html

You are interested in contemplative prayer, you can start with Thomas Keating's book. Actually, the modern term is Centering prayer based on the three S as stillness, silence and solitude. Read spiritual books written by Basil Pennington .
