Xiaopei Chen : that’s why he doesn’t promote in South Korea. To do so he’ll have to give up a larger portion the profits earned in that country. Since he left South Korea in 2015 he really doesn’t need SME for anything. They hang on to him like a leach. However it doesn’t matter as his Chinese and international fan base continues to grow every day!

Lay (Yixing) is freaking insane, became an ult bias of mine haha he pumps out music like no one's business, all self composed under his own label. Also one of the best dancers in kpop. He is a HARD worker! But he's also superrr down to earth haha (Also fyi youtube views dont really represent his popularity in china since they dont have youtube. The guy is HUGE, sold 1.5M albums in just 7 minutes)
All of the members are. Lay started earlier than the rest, but they are all spreading their wings. EXO is their home base. The place they always return to, and where they started, and they are all very devoted to the group and each other, but they are not defined or restricted by it.
Lay has a whole album in chinese & english called namanana. ITS SO GOOD! He has 2 other music videos before this that also are him singing in complete english namanana and give me a chance.💗 He has been working on english a lot & he gotten so much better🥺 He also has a english collab song with steve aoki called love you more. IT SO GOOD. I would also for his other chinese songs recommend lose control, what you need, and sheep. THOSE ARE CLASSICS! He also has a stage for boss you can react to which is another english song. Your facial expressions during this video KILLED me lol but yeah Lay has some amazing choreo and he has songs in English but I always like to check out the chinese version (if there is one) because his lyricism is honestly amazing in his native language whereas the English version usually has more shallow lyrics imo. Every time i watch reactors react to Lay, im so happy bcs a lot of people have been sleeping on him when he's such a phenomenal idol. His music, his dance... No one can pull it off the way he did. He's different, he's unique, he's one of a kind. He has always been a great dancer, but he never stop learning and practicing. He always do more. And he always tries something new. For any of us that know EXO, and especially Lay, "Honey" is kind of exactly what we would expect from him.This is just the sexy, cool kind of song and amazing choreography that Lay is known for. All the guys want to be him and all the girls want to be with him. If you look at the credits for this album, Lay, once again wrote and composed and produced this song and the whole album himself, including the English lyrics. Yes, I am sure he had consultants who helped him find the right words in English, but if you know him, you know that he is a perfectionist and there is almost nothing that he is involved in that he doesn't have 100% control of himself. When it comes to Lay's solo work he does it all himself -- he writes, composes and produces the songs (including the rap sections), he even creates all his own beats, he has a large part in choreographing the dances and he has a hand in coming up with and directing the MVs. Lay is executive producer on all of his solo projects. There really is almost nothing he can't do. That's including learning English so he could make a crossover into the U.S. music market. "Honey" is another one of Lay's solo English songs and It's in English because I think it was a follow up to his previous album "Namanana". "Namanana" was a half English/half Mandarin album and it was his American debut release as part of his U.S. tour and promotions. Every Mandarin song on his "Namanana" album has an all English version. You heard Lay listening to his song "Give Me a Chance" on his headphones at the beginning of the "Honey" MV and that is one of his songs and MVs from his "Namanana" album. Because Lay is not allowed to promote in Korea right now, SM has found a way to promote Lay as part of EXO's storyline by partnering with him to release English songs and to tie his MVs in with EXO's story. Everything EXO does, including several of Lay's solo releases -- such as "Sheep," "Namanana" and "Honey" -- all tie into the fact that he is a member of EXO. It's SM's way of making sure that even though he might not be able to work with the members right now, that they still make sure to show fans that his storyline and presence as part of EXO is still really important to both Lay and SM. Lay is one of the top dancers in the industry and it's his solo work where he really gets to showcase what an amazing dancer he really is. He is the main dancer of EXO-M and he is the counterpart to Kai's role in EXO-K. Kai and Lay are both main dancers, lead vocalists and sub-rappers in their EXO units, so it's no surprise that Lay is an amazing dancer. 🤩 That is why most of the time when you see solo dance breaks in EXO concerts you will see Lay and Kai dancing together because they are 2 of the top dancers in the industry and they were meant to fill similar roles in their respective sub-units in EXO. When it comes to anything involving one of the members of EXO, even their solo work, you have to keep in mind how absolutely everything they do is connected and it is all designed to tell another piece of EXO's story. So, to really understand the story in "Honey" you have to first understand EXO's concept and origin story. The concept for EXO as a group is that they are aliens who came to Earth to protect the Tree of Life from the evil Red Forces and each of the 9 members of EXO (originally 12 members) have superpowers. So, For example, to explain the story in "Honey's" MV, some fan theories say that the fact that the weather lady on the TV is talking about the changing weather and the pressure system could be a nod to the unsettled conditions within EXO's current storyline and how currently the members are struggling to distance themselves from the Red Force, etc. And because you hear her speaking with a British accent this might be a clue to tell us where Lay is right now within EXO's storyline, and it might explain why the other EXO members seem to be sending him messages -- as we see with the bee and the blackout, etc. Most of the members powers have weather and nature elements that could be affected by and affecting the weather around the world. Some theories say, the mechanical bee has been sent by either one or more of the EXO members or it could be sent by the Red Force. The bee is either a message or a warning sent to Lay (although I am not fully confident as to what that exact message is.) And I think, the fact that the bee passes through the glass, might be Kai using his power of teleportation to allow it to pass through it -- or more like, transported to the other side of the glass. And then the lights in the entire city go out as if in a blackout, which I think might be Baekhyun using his power which is the ability to control light or Chen who has the ability to control electricity. Also, I think it's interesting that Lay, as a member of EXO, has the power of healing, and honey is known for its natural homeopathic healing and medicinal propitiates. And in parts of the MV we see Lay submerged in a pool of honey, almost as if he might be using it to recharge and gain strength. I have no idea what this all means, but I just thought it was an interesting parallel. On the flip side, the story in "Honey's"MV also is saying that Lay is a bee and he is looking for his "honey" that's why he is in a honey comb or in a pool of honey the whole time. I think what he is saying in the lyrics is that "Be my honey and be available to me when I want you, but 'please don't catch no feelings' because you have to know that we can have fun together, but I can't invest all my time and energy into you the way I should if we were in a relationship." In other words, he is too busy and too popular to be exclusive right now. He needs to keep the girl at a safe distance for both of their emotional safety, etc. Some also say the "girl" is a manifestation of the heart of the Tree of Life and that is why the members of EXO are always rescuing or protecting the girl, etc. And why all of EXO's songs are about being in love with a girl or being controlled by the power of the girl, such as in "Overdose" for example. Or how they talk about knowing they are bad news for the girl but they want her anyway and they can't help it, but in the end they know they might destroy her -- as they say in "Monster," etc. etc. Which could possibly explain the lyrics in "Honey" if you think of the girl as the heart, it might explain why Lay "wants her" but needs to keep her at a distance to protect her, etc. When you think of the girl as the heart of the Tree of Life, you begin to see even more parallels to EXO's story and even more ways to connect even more of it all together. Did you notice that the spinning honey comb symbol in this MV is actually EXO's logo? The hexagon is EXO's symbol and if you pay close attention at that spinning honey comb you will see that it says EXO in the middle as it spins. So even as a solo artist, Lay and SM find a way to make sure that we never forget that he is part of EXO and that even if he isn't allowed to talk about the group, he makes sure to show just how important they still are to him. As you can see, EXO's MVs are more complex then what you see on the surface. However, often -- although the stories in the MVs are loosely based on the lyrics -- many times the story in the MV and the lyrics in the song are two separate things. The lyrics don't necessarily always go with the story in the MV. Often EXO's songs are about being in love with a girl and wanting to be with her, but the story in the MV is about them working to complete their mission and to fight against the Red Force, etc. Everything EXO does has many layers and it has multiple means and messages, including any of the member's solo work. There are always two levels to every EXO song, one designed to grab the casual listener that has no idea about EXO's storyline, and one that, if you look deeper, you discover has hidden meanings and messages that all connects to EXO's mission here on Earth.

When it came out I literally died in every scene, I mean i’ve seen him shirtless before many times but never like this. My boy became a King Bee 🐝, I personally don’t like rap or english versions of korean or chinese pop music but Lay does it so well even tho he is chinese but I do love his chinese version better. I love and support him but to be honest the english lyrics make the song just too westernized but Lay makes it 🙀. *He filmed the intro at a Grand Hotel in a very luxurious penthouse suite in Seoul, South Korea (city reflection in the window) where only the high-class people stay whenever they visit and our Angel Yixing is one of those people. This is all in english but please don’t think inappropriately about the lyrics because that’s not what you think it is; ugh the song itself is so cringy which gives others such a wrong idea what he’s saying when he says “I need a taste ... honey” especially people with dirty minds. *IN AN INTERVIEW HE EXPLAINS “HONEY” IS INSPIRED BY HIS FANS’ LOVE FOR HIM WHICH IS SWEET & PRECIOUS, YOU’LL JUST FALL IN LOVE WITH HIM MORE; It’s disappointing that not allot fans notice the EXO logo as the honeycomb pattern b/c many stopped considering Lay as part of EXO since hes had to be separate from them for so long. Lay pays for his own MVs (or a portion of it) cause SM won't give him the budget for the level of production he wants. But my mans said, "i'll pay it for myself then." Lay is HUGE in China. Literally one of the top celebrities in China but we know him more as Zhang Yixing (his real name) than 'Lay'. His solo career is the most established in EXO. Has many solo endorsement deals(over 30). Most of his fanbase is based in china too and it is massive - which kinda explains why his RU-vid views are pretty low (since it's banned in China). He's a fixed cast member on many popular Chinese TV programmes which made him pretty much a household name. Even if people are not familiar with his work, they'd have heard of him SOMEWHERE. his brand presence is pretty strong. /sideeyes to the EXO-Ls that don't support Lay as much as the other members/

Our boy Lay is the last chinese member of EXO and ever since 2016 he started doing solo work he has never been on vacation, he keeps working hard to give us the best music and albums he composed, arranged, and produced himself..im not lying he does all of it!!! Lay is still an Exo member btw its just because of his busy schedule in China since he has important roles and responsibilities appointed to him and the political conflict between korea and china our boys(EXO OT 9) haven't fully had a comeback since Tempo 2018 which he only was shown in a few shots and only sang a little in the Chinese version of Tempo. W e will continue to cheer them on as a group and their solo stuffs

He has an entire English album called Namanana, he actually has every song on there twice, once in Mandarin and once in English. His Honey mini album is also in English. He has four full albums total Lose Control, Sheep, Namanana and Lotus. Lay is very talented. He is so Attractive especially when he is performing on stage , he sparks! . I adored him very much not just on his talants on singing n dancing, also his characters that I think young people today should learn from him, humble, hard working, polite, determination, respect to others, not easily give up, patriotic and loyalty.
Lay's dancing is unmatched. I rarely see other professional dancers having the same level of musicality and control as him. He's my top two dancers of all time, and that's including professional dancers.
