He had already been signed by Universal before he dropped this. Since Nelly was already out when he signed in 2002, they had him coming out like a Nelly clone with "Roll Wit Me". He went back indy and dropped most of the songs he's known for (Lay Your Body Down, 4 Walls, My Good Thang) before going to gospel
There was another singer/rapper from STL that was big when he came out lol. Everyone thought he was biting Nelly so that's why. The best thing that happened for him was going back independent and dropping classics like this (which some people remember from Johnson Family Vacation)
