Perfection. So mysterious, sensual, and mesmerizing. The way belly dancing should be. It saddens me deeply that floor work is no longer being performed as part of a dance routine. There are so many lovely moves that can be done. Sad that veil work no longer exists either, or the playing of zills. I performed Turkish Cabaret over 30 years ago. We did all this. I'm happy to find some videos of floor work. Lovely.
I've just done a course in floor work and oh my it is given me an appreciation for the strength, flexibility and talent for this performance. This was absolutely stunning! ❤. I will probably not be able to achieve this level of beauty and sensuality, but this an inspiration. You are amazing!
Oh so sorry that I have missed your comment. Thank you for your kind words. And of course you could! Yes floorwork requires lots of strength (more strength than flexibility actually). Train regularly, little step by little step (5 min a day is enough if you are consistent) and I am sure you will see progress rapidly :-)
I'm not entirely sure why floorwork is banned in egypt. I thought this routine would be similar to the floorwork in american hip hop dance but this was just an enchanting performance I'm at a loss.
It is an interesting question and topic. Floorwork was banned after 1952-1954 revolution in Egypt. I believe that the government wanted the dance to be banned (or at least more acceptable). Before that, during the Golden Era period, some dancers were doing floorwork. I have seen some videos of Tahia Carioca or Samia Gamal, but I am not sure how present was floorwork in egyptian dance. Later, I have seen some basic floorwork with raks shamadan (Nagwa Fouad for example). Floorwork is definitely more included in turkish style than egyptian.
@@LayalOriental Nadia Gamal did some truly amazing floorwork, incorporating some Zar into it. I have never seen any videos of Tahia, Samia, or Soheir Zaki doing floorwork. I did see Negwa Fouad do a very brief bit of floorwork.
Hi Jenn! Thank you!! I do lots of planks and side planks for the abdominal muscles. I also do lots of yoga to build back strength. Especially the cobra is a good position to work with, pay a particular attention when you come back to the floor from this position so you work on each back muscle to gain strength and flexibility. Hope that will help you!
