Yes right? But now not back then and stopped because she had children lol. It seems negatively said but it's not. I love my sisters even with whatever going on lol
❤ NIGHT ROUTINE Step 1. Start with double cleaning to take makeup off (suggested: BioDerma then cleanser) Step 2: Exfoliate (helps cellular turnover) *only at night, not before makeup Step 3 (optional): Mist your face Step 4: Topical prescription (if you have one) *exception for prescription retinol, use that after serum before moisturizer or after moisturizer if you’re sensitive Step 5: Serums (no more than 3) Step 6: Eye cream Step 7: Moisturizer Step 8: Face oil (if you’re very dry or it’s dry out) *don’t need to use every day ❤ MORNING ROUTINE Step 1: Wash face with water, just water Step 2: Serums (no more than 3) Step 3: Moisturize (if you’re oily or it’s hot out, skip this step) Step 4: Sunscreen 🎉🎉🎉
Love your info- thank you. If you can, please give an example of each one of the nighttime and morning routine items that we can purchase, I would really greatly appreciate it (Maybe have links even better)
Nighttime I do the oil cleansing method (sweet almond oil and castor oil) and wipe off with a wet washcloth; and then afterwards a retinoid and a moisturizer with sunscreen. No pre cleanse as I do not wear makeup. I am noticing some melasma and some skin droop. Thoughts?
As a healthcare worker in my 40’s, who lives exhausted, I’m not only impressed but extremely thankful that you take the time to film these videos and your shorts for us. I’ve found your videos very helpful! I didn’t take care of my skin growing up except to wear sunscreen. I was horrible at washing my face until my 20’s and even missed days then and didn’t start with active ingredients until 39-40yo and have only been seeing a dermatologist consistently for about 2 years. Your skin is flawless and I’ve learned a lot from your videos. So, thank you for taking the time to educate.
I’d love a video on how to change your routine depending on the season. I see people talking about their summer vs winter routine and mine’s the same year round…
During winter the air usually gets drier, depending on your climate, so you might need a more hydrating/nourishing moisturiser for example. Depending on where you live, see if maybe what you use during summer doesn’t have the same effect during winter. V it if it does, there’s no need for you to change anything. It’s about your skin’s needs. If those needs don’t change depending on the season, no need to change it 👌
I think she has videos on this. I use the same actives year round, but my moisturizing needs change because the humidity levels change. eg Winter: moisturizing SPF, moisturizing cream as needed, cleansers that are less drying & more hydrating. Summer: higher SPF, cleansers for oily skin, gel moisturizer when needed. I hope that helps a bit.
✨Nighttime Routine✨ 2:07 Step 1 - Double cleansing: oil cleanser or miscellar water (Bioderma is the best miscellar water). Then use a cleanser. 4:19 Step 2 - Exfoliate: ideally at night because stuff will build up on your skin throughout the day (sunscreen, makeup, etc.) 5:31 Step 3-4 - (Optional) Mist/Essence: Essences are extremely lightweight 6:26 Step 5 - Prescription: The exception is Tretinoin because not everybody tolerates it at equal rates, this is where you can buffer your tretinoin. If you're not sensitive use it at this step. Avoid upper lip because you will shed like a snake. If you are sensitive, use the following steps and do it after serum before moisturizer or after serum and moisturizer if you're extremely sensitive. The more products you put before tretinoin the less effective it will be, but the less irritating it will be. 8:07 Step 6 - Targeted serums: Limit to 2 or 3; you don't need more than that. Multi-ingredient stories are interesting. Know the brand to make sure it's something effective. 9:05 Step 7 - Eye cream: Ideally an eye cream that's targeted, with caffeine, retinol, or peptides 10:13 Step 8 - Moisturizer: If you're using a moisturizer with actives, don't double dip with your serums. 11:13 Step 9 - Occlusives/face oils: For example, vaseline to seal everything in. ✨Morning routine✨ 12:05 Step 1- Wash with water: Try to just wash with water in the AM if possible, especially if you're dry 12:55 Step 2 - Targeted serums: Get a Vitamin C one if it's not in your moisturizer. If you have pigmentation, get kojic acid arbutin licorice root I.E. Dr. Idriss' Hyper Serum. If you have redness use her Depuffer. 13:17 Step 3 - Moisturizer: If it's humid and you're oily, skip moisturizer and go straight to sunscreen. If you're dry in a normal or dry climate, use moisturizer. Gage your skin type and climate for this step. 13:41 Step 4 - Sunscreen: If you're exfoliating your skin you want to be protecting it the next day especially. At least once a day if you have an office job and you're not doing manual labor outside. 14:27 Check description for links to 2 other important videos. Very quickly: Vitamin C absolutely can be combined with a retinoid. If you're using the L-ascorbic acid version of Vitamin C, try to not combine it with copper peptides or benzoyl peroxide, they could inactivate your Vitamin C. If using L-ascorbic acid apply that in the morning and the copper peptides at night or save the benzoyl peroxide for the shower before toy jump in. But if you're using Tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate (like in Dr. Idriss' product) you can combine with copper peptides. 15:56 Exfoliating acids you can combine acids like glycolic acid for anti-aging, lactic acid for pigmentation, salicylic for acne, but don't overdo it. She prefers exfoliating at night as she mentioned earlier, but you could do salicylic in the morning in a cleanser if you're oily.
My skin has had more attention these past 3 days than my entire life thanks to your videos. I say this sincerely: from a what-product-comes-first-in-the-routine confused architect, THANK YOU! Would love to see your skincare products be shipped to Ireland - really hoping you'll consider this in the near future.
I can't thank you enough for the insightful video! I wanted to share a personal experience regarding red light therapy for anyone on the fence about it. At 46, I've been using a red light therapy panel from Future Form Official, which my dermatologist recommended for my skin's complexion and wrinkles. The panel is incredibly affordable, and the results have been outstanding. My skin's texture has improved dramatically, and I've noticed a significant reduction in fine lines and wrinkles. Interestingly, people often mistake me for being much younger now! There’s a lot of scientific research backing red light therapy, so it's not just a trend. Thank you again for your valuable content, it really helps make informed skincare decisions!
I really really really enjoy your content Dr Idriss. I’m 52 and only started about 2 years ago with “serious” skincare and I’m learning so much from you. You also make me laugh (in a good way) which makes your videos even more enjoyable ❤
Thank you. I'm advanced in terms of my skincare routine. It makes me insane to hear makeup creators try to coach subscribers on skincare! Most are clueless
Hi Dr. Shereene, i’m a huge fan of your contents and they’ve helped me so much for the past couple weeks🤍 I have a few video ideas for you to discuss since i am curious in some topics, 1. How to read INCI list 2. Different kinds of hyperpigmentation and and how to identify (and differentiate) them 3. How to identify and treat different kinds of acne (papule, nodules, etc.) 4. Dry skin with acne skincare tips! Hope these content ideas will help you in the future, thank you doc🤍
Hey Dr Shereene, I’ve been struggling with dermatillomania for 16 years now, I’m working on getting it under control now. You are the only skincare content creator that I can watch without feeling triggered. You explain everything so well that I don’t feel overwhelmed. I’m working on healing my skin barrier now and I have a manageable routine ready when my skin is ready. Thank you for all your tips!
You aren't alone, friend. I have been struggling (on&off) with dermatillomania and trich for 24 yrs as well. I totally agree with you comment about her content being supportive, rather than triggering. Keep up the hope and the strength to overcome our compulsions for good. I am sending you prayers and good vibes ❤
@@phbolil thank you so much for your sympathetic response!❤️ glad I’m not alone in this, selfishly. I had a bit of a regression in my progress but my skin is perking up again slowly. Thank you for sharing & I wish you the best of luck with your own journey too!
finally someone saying it's ok to wash with water in the morning🥰 I've been saying this as part of my morning routine and even the salespeople look weirdly at me, like I did it wrong. I have combination skin, but it really helps my skin breathe when I just wash with water and apply sunscreen. I just can't find the right moisturizer that doesn't make my skin feel clogged and oily throughout the day.
I have combination skin too and could never find a moisturizer that could tackle both skin types 😅 Try this - spritz your face with Dr Shereene’s diy glycerine mist (she has a short video on this) all over your face (it soothes and hydrates), and then apply a gel moisturiser on the non-oily parts of your face. If you live in a dryer climate, switch to a richer moisturiser. It worked for me. Hope it’ll work for you too ☺️
@ayeshawafa3176 @leannerobinson2890 @-MEL16-A.O.C @snapesirius78 awww Thank you for all your replies and recommendations🥰truly grateful. I'll look them up and try.🤗❤
lip basting! it’s when you put on a thick moisture (like one with ceramides or similar) and then a layer of vaseline or aquaphor top. dr idriss has posted about this as well, really helped me when it felt like pretty much no lip balms worked for me anymore
I love our Dr. Shereene❣️ It’s like we are sitting across the table chatting with our best doctor friend while she steers us in the right direction and slaps the cr_ p out of us for not wearing sunscreen. Thank you Dr. Shereene!!!
Right on time for my night skin care routine here in Greece!Dr Shereene since you read our comments please know that we can't wait here in Europe for Pillowtalk!!!
Yess thank god for the internet I've always been able to find at least one of her recommended products (I'm from the Netherlands). As I learn more and more about the ingredients I've been able to find alternatives a few times now. Love this channel!
About the wet sleeves debacle: I use regular old wrist bands, the ones tennis players wear, and I take my top off while washing my face. That way I don't get my collar damp, either.
I love you, Shereene, love your honesty, straight, your energy, your Love and your passions about what you do and what you know, thank you so much. xxx
You make great videos. I came across them quite recently, and now I consume them in large quantities. I have crazy skin, I can't even count how much I have already invested in it. And really, there are times when I'm very desperate and I don't know what to do. Your videos help a lot with orientation in the endless confusion of often conflicting information. Thanks for that!
Hi Dr, I recently found you and love your Chanel, you are so real. I wanted to add you have the smoothest clearest skin I think I’ve ever seen. This just makes me want to try your products even more. I’m almost 70 and I’ve got surprisingly good skin, I’ve always tried to take care of it, but now that I’m on a limited fixed income it’s not so easy. Anyway I wanted to say I love your channel on Saturday mornings, you are so upbeat and 😊give so much information. Keep up the great work
I am so overly overwhelmed and confused. But i just like how you present it all. As if we are friends and you are trying to make my life better. Who else feels it.
I just wanted to say thank you, I've been following your advice on skincare since 2020, I feel like I have new skin. My melasma is gone(under control), my dry irrigated skin is gone. I use a pretty basic version of your routine and couldn't be happier ♥ for me daily mineral sunscreen is such a game changer
BWC micellar water, cetaphil, I make my own glycerin spray, The Ordinary ( vitamin C serum, glycolic acid "toner", and their granactive retinoid), I use at night this glycerin rich lotion I buy at my co-op "Sukin" brand . And finally Supergoop matte screen or sheer screen. It sounds like a lot but it really isn't, I do one night retinol, next night glycolic acid, next night only night lotion, (repeat). And during the day just glycerin spray, sometimes vitamin c serum, and sunscreen. I probably spend the most money on sunscreen year round. Hope this helps! @@hinabokhari7520
This is so helpful! I'm just starting my skin care journey and it can feel so overwhelming and that everyone is trying to scam me, thank you for cutting through the bs and giving me the facts!!
Thx for the video! A good topic to discuss on the next video could be the time you should wait between products depending on their actives. I read somewhere that you should wait 20min before putting anything on top of retinol, for example. Could you clraify this for us? 💗
In one of her videos she said it was ok to use actives that don’t go well with retinol if you used retinol in the evening and are now using these other actives in the morning, because retinol is absorbed by our skin in 20 minutes. It also tends to be oily, and oils should be the very last step, so maybe she was saying to not put any moisturiser in oily retinol before that 20 minute mark because oil is an occlusive and that moisturiser won’t get absorbed. That’s what I personally do. You can also use moisturiser BEFORE using retinol. Just a few infos I remembered. I hope she answers your questions.
Thank you for bringing this up. I have the same question. My dermatologist recently told me to wait ten minutes between applying retinol and then a moisturizer. I’m still curious to know how long to between the other steps, especially if someone uses multiple serums in the same routine.
I've been doing 30-60 seconds between and am experiencing pilling after final night stage which is a heavier moisturizer and sometimes Aquaphor. Any advice?
I really loved that you talked about skincare from a weekly view! I've been doing this for ages where I change my products throughout the week according to specific ingredients. I try to set weekly skin goals (use peptides this day, use retinol that day, etc).
Thank you for this. At my age, I’m using a few actives 😅. But I use my really mild tretinoin (0.01%) as an eye cream and it has worked miracles over a course of years. The skin is thicker there now and you can’t see my blue under eyes any more ❤️
Hi Dr Shereene, thank you so much I have been using my pillow talk derm system for a couple weeks and with sensitive skin and cystic acne prone, my face is so much much brighter. After years of strong acne treatment my face was dry as a bone and now so nourished and healthy. I am 41 going on 42. Thank you so much
This was so helpful, I've watched many others about layering and order but this is the best I've ever watched! The amount of detail and simplicity made it so easy to understand and make sense for my routine. Unfortunately I can't afford to see a dermatologist so this is so invaluable to me. Thank you thank you thank you. You're my fav, love your content ❤️
She is so good and really down to earth but so knowledgeable. She doesn’t push her brand, but damn, does she have an awesome brand. How does she produce all her content/media and still has a dermatological practice?! 😮💨
My skin is so much better because of you! Thanks! Thanks! Thanks! I’ve learnt so much from you about skincare. Could you do more videos on “in office” procedure? I feel that that is an entirely new universe that I don’t know how to navigate and so hard to find non-biased information about it. Thanks again! Hugs! 🤗
Hey! I'd love to see a video covering effective remedies for dark circles. It's a common concern, and your expertise in providing skincare solutions would be incredibly helpful. Looking forward to watching this! 🌟"
Thank you so much! You're videos and simplified information, have been a huge help. You've helped me actually begin caring for my skin. Hearing you break down the information and always considering that money is a huge factor in how ppl use skin care, has made me love your videos. You helped me realize a good routine doesn't have to be purchasing the luxury brands. 😊😅
Your video's are so informative but also really beginner friendly which I really appreciate. I've never...I repeat NEVER washed my face before bed (unless I'm in the shower), because of the whole wet sleave ordeal, and also having to wait for the water to run warm when all I want to do is go to bed 😅 I used to just use micellar water on a cotton pad, moisturize and call it a day 😮 I have good genes, so I've been lucky so far but I just turned 35, and have wanted to up my game. Now because of your channel I'm incorporating more steps into my evening routine, and using your simple washcloth tip (which I love). I actually look forward to my evening skincare routine now. I've done it all week, and am already seeing a change in my skin. Thank you 😊
Would love to see you do a series where people submit their skincare routines, and you review it with advice/feedback… 🤔❤ also this video was really helpful thank you!
With your help and advice a.k.a. your content, I’ve really started taking care of my skin and I’ve really been noticing results and getting compliments! Thank you 😢
I think she addresses this in one of her other videos or shorts that your pore size cannot be reduced, the only thing you can do is reduce its appearance, but the size itself won't change
Great stuff. This elderly (sigh) woman has sensitive skin. As a blue-eyed former redhead with rosacea (having an ongoing problem with skin cancer) I apply azelaic acid morning and night. Ivermectin gets applied every other evening. This how-to session is much appreciated. Thank goodness my father insisted on zinc oxide on our noses and shoulders when we were children. I may need to travel up to NYC for a consultation. (Opera and shopping optional)
So nice to finally be excused from using moisturizer in the mornings and I live in Florida. Sunscreen I still use! I have been experimenting on different sunscreen for the face.
Thanks doctor Shereene! You have listed 10 ingredients for hyperpigmentation like a month ago. Can you please do a video on how to layer those ingredients? Thanks 😊
Thank you for all your valuable advice. Love to tune in! Could you please discuss whether these products need to be applied to dry or damp skin. Lots of misinformation out there and you are one of the only people left on these channels that I find credible. Please keep up the great work!
Thank you for this video, very helpful. One thing I can never figure out or find is the time to wait in between application and also helpful to know the quantity of products to use per treatments.
Just saw this post & she really did say Wash your face w/ water in the a.m. I'm in SoCal dry heat area & an older woman. I'll give this a try. 😊 thank you Dr. Idriss
Hi doctor, how long should we let glycolic acid sit for before going on to the next steps? Also, how long for tretinoin before applying our moisturizers? Or for the buffer, how long should we wait for the moisturizer to sit on our face before we apply the tretinoin? Thanks! ❤❤❤
That was extremely informative! Thank you! I was wondering for future videos if you can cover how to layer skincare based on texture (cream vs water vs oil). Specifically I was wondering if you should use your cream retinoid prescription before water based serums according to the order mentioned in your video! Another topic I was curious about is sunscreens! Do you wear sunscreen first and then start with your makeup routine (primer, foundation etc.)? And are there products for reapplying sunscreen without messing up your makeup? I have heard that you need a lot of the spray on sunscreens for it to be effective. Thank you again for making dermatology accessible and engaging!!
Thank you for your ever-evolving, meaningful, and relevant content. I've been following along for about a year and have seen SO MUCH improvement in my skin. I so appreciate all that I've learned from you.
I don't put the cuffs on my sleeves, I put it just above my wrist on my skin. It keeps water from running down your arm, off your elbow, and alllll over your counter. 😅 Hope this helps! 🙏
OMG! The itching and burning! I experienced perioral dermatitis after 3 weeks of retinol use. I was also layering products. Get a prescription for metronidazole. After applying to my face for just a few days my rash is almost gone. I'm thrilled with the results.
I’ve ALWAYS have this question looming in my head-> So wash your face in the morning with water… However I wear tretinoin cream at night along with neck cream and some moisturizer under my eyes and around my lip/mouth area. So in the morning, just rinse these products off with water?? I’ve been using a gentle cleanser followed by micellar water (to remove the creams from the previous night) and then add my Vitamin C serum and moisturizer/ sunscreen (I blend them). I shower at night after my run… and I am in this routine. So, in the mornings, I can just rinse my face with water (with the creams from the night before still on) and move strait into Vit. C serum, moisturizer and sunscreen!! This is AWESOME!’ I felt like washing twice a day was A Lot!! Thank you sooooo much!! ✌️
squalane is known as a natural lipid moisturizer on the skin. depends on the ingredients/products that you're using. if it is just pure squalane, its a moisturizer
I'm almost 34 and just recently found you on Tiktok and now on RU-vid. I love that you use micellar water.. Many people are against it and recommend oil cleansers all the time.. And I also just started wiping my cleanser off with a white cloth. It's a game changer! I do look younger than I am without using skincare much, but that's just because of good genetics.. I realized that it's time I try and actually take care of my skin. I'm afraid of Vitamin C after an experience a few years ago using a Vitamin C moisturizer... Can you use Niacinamide as an antioxidant in the morning, instead of Vitamin C?
Please also make a video of what should be the time gap when one is applying these in our skin care routine for morning and night, in other words, how many minutes should one wait before applying each skincare product
You will want to wait until you skin is dry for each product. If your skin is wet, wait for your skin to dry before you put on moisturizer and if your skin is wet from moisturizer wait for your skin to dry before you even put on sunscreen. Skincare layering requires patience.
Thanks for the last bit with the exfoliants. Very helpful, clear and straightforward 👍I use salicylic acid as a face wash in the morning. So I can use a glycolic or lactic for the night . I enjoy watching your videos. You’ve got the conviction when you explain 👍
I’d like a pillow talk discussing hyperpigmentation & usage of multiple serums to treat it. You say we only need 2 serums max for an entire routine, but for hyperpigmentation/melasma I’m using 2 serums & a prescription. I’m getting AWESOME results but if I can use less that would be great.
Something I'd be super interested to watch is a video for us pale people on how to use self tanners on your face with your skin care routine and the best products.
Thank you so much! I've been wanting to hear the proper order to put my pm arsenal of skin care onto my face. I am using 0.018 tretinoin, and I've been putting it on my dry face first....
Awesome video! I'm starting my new skincare routine and I'm very excited about it 🤭 I do have a question: If I don't wear makeup regularly do I still need to double cleanse? What kind of cleanser should I use at night if I only use one? Thank you!
Awesome info. As said previously, it is super confusing for lay people and you do a great job explaining it while also being interesting and engaging. Been using your exfoliating product for a while and now looking at stepping up some more. Thanks.
I absolutely love all your videos! Thank you so much for sharing this valuable information in a very entertaining fashion :). Just started using your depuffer and moisturizer and i can already tell the difference in my rosacea! THANK YOU!!!!
I’m 60 & have been using a cleanser for at least 25 years now. IF you don’t have time or energy for a two step wash, I highly recommend Purity Made Simple Cleanser by Philosophy. It’s a gentle gel cleanser that will remove waterproof mascara and makeup without stinging your eyes. Other Influencers have said it also helped with their acne. Because It’s formulated to clean the pores. Plastic surgeons helped in the formulation of this cleanser. This cleanser was a game changer for my skin. It Is also budget friendly as it comes in different size bottles and you need very little. When I wash my face, I am wearing my short sleeve Tee shirt already for that. I never wash my face in pajamas. 😉
I just shared this video with so many friends! Love this advice! Could you do a video dedicated to your line of products, on how you intended them to be used and how we can create our own routine using them?
I love hearing you say to, Just Wear the Damn Suncreen! because it helps me want to wear it more on a regular basis like I need to. I do try to reapply it but once in a while if I have to wake up early and go to work. I know, I should wake up earlier to make sure to get my morning routine in. It's a work in progress.
I triple cleanse, I use miceller water with an oil base by Garnier, as Bioderma doesn’t work for me, to point remove eyeshadow, lip and mascara. Then I use a balm or oil, and finally a normal gel cleanser. For morning I only use a cleansing milk or cream cleansing. I love facial mists as well.
