The ony thing In Your House had over Wrestlemania was it had a 4 player mode, which was a riot to play with friends, having the three other players curb stomp someone on the ground never got old :D
I still pop in Smackdown 2 from time to time (and I'm someone who's never stopped playing wrestling games), I don't think it aged poorly at all, it just feels how I expect a PS1 Smackdown game to feel and it's what I'm looking for when I go back to it. But yeeahhh...I also own WrestleMania, In Your House, WarZone and Attitude as well...those don't hold up at all. I tried playing Attitude again a few months back and that game is absolutely brutal when you have no muscle memory for button inputs.
Without the Acclaim games (but especially those ECW games) we never would have gotten the Legends of Wrestling games, a baffling mix of the Hulk Hogan XWF project, emocore and the unused ECW PS2 engine. Those games (especially 2) were my teen years. I am serious and VERY sane.
The Smackdown engine is base off the New Japan games that came out in 1995 to 1999. The Pro Wrestling 1 and 2 was Yukes transition from the New Japan games to the WWF ones.
When I saw this in the arcades back in 1995 it actually impress me even though I don't like digitized cut outs for characters in video games. The frame rate and the presentation hold up but then again being an Arcade game it wasn't an easy game. Even in just the intercontinental championship route, Two verses one suck.
The wrestling games from the 16/32 bit era, was so much more fun, compared to todays mediocre games. Unless I missed something newer, which is still worth checking out?
Fire Pro Wrestling World is still my wrestling game of choice. There's a reason the franchise has long been the hardcore fan's favourite and now we have Steam Workshop ontop of the already legendary style of the game.
We made our teachers in Smack Down 2 and one of them bitch slapped finish moved my friend off the top of the cage the look on his face dropped it was hysterical.
Lets not forgot how good wcw vs the world for PS1 really was. It was the grandfather of rhe AKI engine. If you have a PS1 and want a good wcw game, play wcw vs the world and wcw mayham.
The problem with Warzone and Attitude was the fact that they used a combo system like fighting games instead of a more intuitive grappling system like what Yuke's and AKI offered. They're just not that fun in comparison. They're fine though, much better than the PS1 WCW games.
I still have these games on PS1 my all time favourite has to be smack down 2 and WWF attitude I used to play the hell out of those games when I was a kid the amount of times I spent on them I enjoyed every moment I don't miss getting angry with them though lol
I actually enjoy most of these games because of the memories of playing in rooms of mates. Pro evo has still held up very well where as any of these are rough but at least you had variety which we lack a little of. Wrestling empire is probably the go to game for silly wrasslin mind you
@@andrewdunn5568 They did. They said Cody and Punk were both going to be in it regardless of their current situations (though I expect Punk's AEW return soon...like All-In soon)
That wait forever stuff is corny. It takes 18 months to 3 years to build a game, they're starting over in Unreal Engine according to Smacktalks. They're not just copy and pasting like 2K are.
Yeah It don’t sit right with me that attitude is looked upon so bad. It was amazing as a little kid in 90s. So many options. It doubled as a wwe the music album since they were able evry ones songs on there.
The day it became WWE is the day wrestling died. Hasn't been any good since and probably never will be. So it will always be WWF to me because that's what I watched. WWE is a program for children with a shitty name. Never gonna call it that, but I would never watch that garbage nowadays anyway.
