We're proud to be sponsored by James Hardie, the global leaders in manufacturing fibre cement products. Be sure to check out their exciting range of products here: bit.ly/3kpdtRd
The temperature is about to rise! John and the team crack on with installing a Polypipe underfloor heating system. You'll get some exciting insights on how this intricate process is conducted... and the best bit, it only took just over a day! Once the pipes are laid into an intricate and neat order, it's time to bring in our good friends from RS Concrete to begin the screeding process.
PLEASE NOTE: we’ll endeavour to answer questions and comments as soon as possible depending on our work schedules.

Great looking screed, is there any particular reason you don't lay the UFH pipes under the sanitary fittings?
@BuildWithAE

Hi Kevin, We avoid the units, firstly because it's a waste to heat under them, and secondly, food stored in the units would spoil quicker if they were heated. Hope this helps. All the best, John 👷🏼‍♂️

How deep was screed in this video? And was that specified or customer choice? Great video

Fascinating job, when I see this in USA videos they do the whole floor, is there regs in UK about not under units?
@skiiddy
@skiiddy 2 года назад
No regs. Its just a waste, no benefit having heating under kitchen cabinets.

Hi Tony, Brilliant video. Can I ask how thick does the screed need to be as it seems quite thick about 3 to 4 inches. Is that right? Is there a minimum depth as such. Many thanks.
@BuildWithAE
@BuildWithAE 7 месяцев назад
You can down to 50mm but I prefer 75mm to 85mm it helps in preventing cracking all the best Tony

When you put the insulation down, did you put anything under it?? Or was it straight on to mud??

In what looks to be a large area what length of pipe did you use here? Any tips on how you measured It out or was that worked out by the UFH supplier?
@BuildWithAE
@BuildWithAE 2 года назад
Hi Kevin We only run to 80mtrs the pipe has measured meters on it Most of the time we measure the runs are self or you can get the design from who ever supplied the underfloor pipe All the best Tony

I find it crazy that they tamp it, you wouldn’t think it’d make any difference to such a wet mix. And how come those pipe clips don’t just puncture the polythene?
@joefowler9600
@joefowler9600 2 года назад
Its not completely self levelling, just a flowing screed. You have to set the disc on the tripods to the finish height using a laser level. You then move the gear around until its touching all the the discs on the tripods, at this point it should be fairly level. Then you give it a first pass with the dapple bar, pushing into the gear about 70% of the depth. Then working at right angle to the first pass, dapple a second and final pass just breaking the surface, this is really just putting a nice even finish on it. Its a good easy product, but you can still get it very wrong if you don't know what your doing. Also the pipe clips do puncture the polythene, but clips kind of cover the punctures. And its only a slip mat, not really a dpm.

@@joefowler9600 I think there should be two layers, one underneath the insulation in contact with either the raw ground material or else the grading/gravel compacted. (slab on grade) there should be a poured 4" or 6" slab underneath all of this insulation. Layering of materials changes in renovations versus new builds, accounting for original ceiling heights and all existing door openings.

Really surprised how wet that concrete mix is. Guess strength isn't much of an issue in this application, is it?

its floor screed not concrete!
@cl6387
@cl6387 2 года назад
Ive always wondered why people opt not to lay the UFH across the entire floor? Should they ever change the room plans from their current design it will leave cold spots on the floor? If anchoring something to the floor I see why you would avoid those spots due to possible damage to the pipe if driving in far enough.
