Another good vid mark. I’m having an extension built at moment, which I am now beginning to realise we have chosen the wrong “builders “. The new extension damp course is above the existing damp on the house, this is never correct surely. Building regs are coming out tomorrow to check. However I think building regs have retrospectively passed via a photo from the “bricky” covering the house damp and only showing the new. Am I wrong that this isn’t right?
Chears mate. It's a tricky one is the old damp proof below 150mm from the out side floor level. E. G flags or grass. You do have to be 150mm or more above. The damp proof corse is usually the same level or near enough as your interior floor level. If it's a lot higher than your inside floor you could end up with problems if it below you will be ok. Your inspector will tell you straight away. Weather it right or wrong let me know how it goes mate 👍
I am worried of how to prepare a base for a smaller project similar to this, but with clay soil underneath.. Not sure if I should dig deep enough to lay and compact a gravel base. I am not sure how to prevent shifting or movement from underneath if it were to occur.
Are you not worried about staining the slabs when jointing with 3:1 mortar? I’ve been putting off doing my slabs because I’ve read so much about potentially staining the slabs…
If you keep it dry enough you will be fine it won't stain. If it looks as it it is staining just wash the flag down with a spunge and a bit of water 👍👍👍
