for someone who doesn’t like diona and is bored of zhongli like myself, I am glad for layla’s inclusion. she was super cute in the shroom event as well so it’s a no brainer regarding pulling on the banner for me. looking forward to adding her to my hyperbloom team.
There's a special playstyle with candace where you can use candace's hydro infusion on layla and play it like a freeze team just layla and candace, with the infusion layla applies hydro and her E/Q freezes over and over, add mona for dmg buff, kazuha for shred and there you go a new type of freeze team thats extremely synergistic
I am pretty excited to use Layla in my Yoimiya double hydro team. Part of the reason is obviously because I don't have Zhongli there. But hydro resonance buffs Layla shield and damage at the same time, plus it has an advantage of staying at a mid/long range for a fully ranged comp. Usually to make use of Zhongli's shield, you want to stay close to the enemy for it's resistance shred to work, and therefore gets nuked by monsters' melee attack With Layla, you will likely do less damage but you can now stay pretty far away for comfort, while Yoimiya, Yelan, Xingqiu and Layla all have access to some form of auto targeting, plus the occasional melt shot from Yoi. And I don't think she will steal vape when I have double hydro on the team.
Zhongli is Zhongli, you can be copium with Diano, Thomas the Train or Layla the sleepy but they will never be something, lets just say reliable/comfortable
Honestly I'll always be close to enemies anyway even if Zhongli's res shred isn't there, mostly because Yoimiya misses her NAs when she's too far away and I'd rather just dodge the biggest hits I'm planning on using Layla with my double hydro Hu Tao, since that acc couldn't get Zhongli

I would love to build Layla but the issue is I already have a 55k HP Zhongli and a Diona who helps with healing as well. I am torn between if I should consider building her or not.
@@fakenamesam7453 if youre not in the process of building anyone else you could build her for funzies or even for a little variety of gameplay. I believe youre able to 36* abyss already so it could just be for changing the team a bit
@@Thyago3108 well I actually can't 36*(33* max) since I play on phone and my 5* units somehow always aren't dealing enough dmg to clear floor 12. But yeah if I don't get Tart or Mona then I will probably build her.
I like her look, and she seems cool _(no pun intended)_ but I really need to stop pulling on so many units. I'm going to skip this banner and save some primos. i was keeping my guaranteed for scara (0 pity after our beloved qiqi) but i thought her namecard was so pretty, and as a namecard collector i went yolo. i ended up getting c1 childe at 11 pity, which i don’t mind because he’s been my main since day 1 and i will go for c6 one day anyway
i really like layla as a character. her and chongyun are the only cryo characters i've liked so far. I want to build her as a main dps and pair her with chongyun so she gets infused cryo autos. any thoughts on what artifacts would work best for that?
these two are my favourite cryo characters too! been maining chongus since i started playing and still use him in abyss today ☺️ if you’re going freeze/mono cryo layla: 4pc blizzard strayer will be the best choice. you can also do a combo of 2pc blizzard and 2pc +18% atk (gladiators/shimenawa/echoes/vermillion). if melt layla: any combo of 2pc blizzard, 2pc +18% atk (gladiators/shimenawa/echoes/vermillion), or even 2pc elemental mastery (wanderers/gilded dreams). 4pc sets that buff normal attack also work for both freeze/mono cryo and melt layla: 4pc gladiators (reliable and no requirements), 4pc echoes (higher dmg but depends on chance), 4pc shimenawa (higher dmg but sacrifices being able to use your burst). for all builds: atk% sands, cryo dmg goblet, crit rate/dmg circlet depending on your sub stats (crit dmg circlet if 4pc blizzard).
I got Layla when I pulled for Eula. I plan on builiding Layla as a support. Currently she has Harbinger Of Dawn as it's the most accessible sword. I have a few copies at R5.
I'd have probably skipped the Yae banner but since I've a huge weakspot for drowsy characters and generally love everything about Layla, I don't mind going up to pity.
Laylas 12 second CD lines up perfectly for Ayato. My favorite team so far is Ayato, Layla, Fischl, Sara where you have a 25s "main" rotation with two "sub" rotaions in which you use Oz, Layla EQ, Sara Buff, Ayato E. I was able to meet the DPS check on Floor 12 with an underleveled Layla and Sara. The team is also really easy to play and just feels fluid with the 12s rotations.
Judging by how she works, she might be great for dps or even quick swap Lisa due to her providing a shield and Cryo application. Unlike most electro units, Lisa's biggest weakness is her clunkiness so a Cryo shielder that applies offield is pretty nice. I know Diona exists but she needs high investment for her shield and her burst is smaller so it might not be ideal for the queen so thicc that it takes her like an hour to set up her dmg.
I got her while pulling for childe and after getting him used my remaining primos to get some constellations! thankfully I got her to c3, which was my goal :) I want to build her full shield support and I have nilous weapon so I'm rlly happy
Thanks for pointing out the important things! I've been thinking of investing into both of them as much as I can. Diona on a team with Ganyu for melt (EM buff) and Layla on my freeze team with Ayaka. Because Layla has potential 100% cryo application, it's really useful for freeze more than melt.
I'm not big on 4 stars but...there's a few that truly are champions. I feel like she's going to become one of them. I adore how her Magicks come to play when she's asleep. I love her uniqueness, so let's hope her nerve and talent follow! Thanks Sevvy!
I think I'll pull for her for those shooting stars on freeze teams... I don't have any pity at all so I don't have to worry (much) about early 5 stars and I don't need her so much so I won't be willing to go further than a couple of 10 pulls for her...

I had a lot of fun trying out this character today, especially in freezing-bloom teams, where her stars not only freeze enemies in place, but also protect me from bloom explosions. The only thing is, I feel so bad bringing her in the team, she always sounds so exhausted!
I really wanna try her with rosaria and a Pyro FORWARD melt comp, as far as I'm aware forward melt is really uncommon and hard to do but we finally have a cryo over time applier! I'm pretty excited
whats the point of making her so pretty and giving her a likable personality if u're just gonna give her such a bad kit to the point she doesn't even have a good weapon to use
Hopefully she works well with a charged shot Melt Amber team! I've been waiting for her because I need an off-field Cryo applicator that can shield, and Diona is already in my other team haha.
Finally a relatable and less annoying shielder for my Yoimiya (no Zhongli :')). Based on her kit, she has like the second best sheilder in the game, so im gonna use that to the max potential.
I was thinking she'd be the perfect support for physical DPS Fischel, since there isn't really a good ranged off-field cryo applicator that synergizes well with how bow units continually back away from enemies while they attack. Maybe I can use those two with Yun Jin and Bennett for some really intense single target physical damage?? Or swap Bennett with Gorou and get geo resonance, healing past 70%, and that def buff can help make Layla's shield even more durable too.
@@amandaslough125 So even though my Layla isn't fully built yet, using Gorou made that team much more comfortable. Fischel's damage wasn't quite as good without Bennett, but Yun Jin and Gorou's skills hit harder with the geo resonance, and Gorou's burst pulling in crystallize shields kept Layla's shields running for the full duration too, which helps her cryo application. I'm the same though, I love Gorou so I'm constantly itching for other ways I can use him. I'm decently happy with this team. It's not meta, but it is fun.
I have no Zhongli, is she better than Diona for my Yoimiya vape build? Her cryo apply can mess with some vape reactions, but the dmg output will be that lower?
Well melt is more powerful than vape on the side of the pyro applier so it might actually be beneficial to not only melt but also have enemies frozen if you're using Layla alongside a hydro applier. Diona at C6 does have the benefit of a 200% EM buff alongside her healing.
I already know that I wouldn't use her if I get her just because of how annoying her character traits are to me. Not enough that the traveler is constantly yawning or Qiqi falls half asleep talking or Sayu or... enough with those sleepwalkers! Can we please have some just completely nochmal characters? Not those hyperactive or hyper-inactive ones?🙄
Very nice review! Very thorough explanation on how her buffing works. They did a pretty good job trying to keep her somewhat comparable with Diona, but I would still take c6 Diona over c6 Layla.
Love her design but I don’t need another shield unit. I have C6 Diona and a 51K HP Zhongli. Also have Kokomi so my freeze teams are already amazing. I’ll be skipping and saving my primos. Good luck to those pulling!
Dear Sevy, Thanks for the guide. I'm a bit sad. Currently I'm using Diona in my freeze team and she works perfectly and is fun to play. But I don't like Diona's Design and Personality so I was hoping Layla was a good alternative. After your guide, though, I think Diona still fits better to my playstyle and is more comfortable due to her healing. Maybe one day, when I got C6 Layla and have resources left, I will just try her out. For now, though, I will skip.
would she be good to apply cryo for diluc to melt? when I saw that her stars generate when a character uses a skill I immediately thought of him with his 3 stage skill

I've broken her out a few times when I need 2 shielders. She really IS a great 4-star unit. She's good at what she does...which is stopping you from dying.
i have been having a lot of fun with her. I currently built her more DPS with HP sands, cryo goblet and crit circlet w/ jade cutter. been using her on field with chongyun E to make her pure cryo DPS w/ anemo VV and hydro support. I know in no way this is meta or ideal for damage but its been a lot of fun. Would love to test her on my yoimiya team to change things up as well.
Layla can shield and apply cryo but can't boost damage, Shenhe can boost your cryo damage alot. So yeah she's worth it, you can even combine them all in your team
I am pretty confused as to why that Layla would be a sword user when she feels more like she should be a catalyst user since you know her profession and everything. I don't know but it just strikes me as odd. In any case, I don't have much to say other then Layla is a good Shielder, easy to build and is super cute. Another soild video Sevy though now I wonder what would happen if we give Layla and Ganyu coffee? Would they be perky or still sleepy? Regardless good job!
It feels like Layla is unnecessary. I get that it's too soon for dendro shielder, but what about hydro? Why same element for this role? I want more variety.
As someone who hates Diona's aesthetics, and do not have Zhongli (out of bad luck), she's a must pull for me. She's do great for my Eula and Ayato freeze team.
I'm excited for her, because of this, Diona is good, but never really liked playing with her, specially after I got Kokomi. I'll use her with Ganyu frezze team, her shield will not be the main focus, but a nice thing to have and the dmg is good enough, considering that now I use Rosaria with a support crit build for Eula and I'm always too lazy to change the artifacts.
@@Rozherhn I used to do Shogun, Rosaria, Jean, Eula (waifu team), but now I have been thinking of replacing Jean with Kuki as Jean's only there for heal but Kuki can proc superconduct too, and the double Electro would be kinda nice. If I get Laila I might bench Raiden for the other team.
Sadly, the way shield strength works is that the user with the shield strength bonus only benefits the wearer, not the teammates' shields (bolide, summit shaper). It sounds weird and counterintuitive, but that is how hoyo weirdly designed it. (You can look it up in the wiki, or if there's a video.) That's why the tenacity has to boost everyone's shield strength, as well as zhongli and Layla's passives. Basically, summit shaper will do nothing for her shield support.
I find Layla's English voice to be abysmal. Easily the worst out of all the playable characters, and in my opinion, even worse than Paimon. On the other hand, in terms of gameplay Layla seems to easily be the best 4* from Sumeru yet, 2nd only to Zhong Li as shield bot with decent damage (especially if paired with Shenhe). When she becomes available later today on the NA server I will be going for C6 Layla, and pick up constellations for my Yae Miko in the process. I will be putting Layla on my Geo team (Ningguang, Albedo, Gorou).
I was thinking on putting her on my Ganyu Melt team with Xiangling and Bennett (she replacing Zhongli) or with Yoimiya (still thinking if the other 2 units should be Bennett, Xingqiu, my C6 Yun Jin or my C3 Jean to buff her normal atk spd) but you opened my eyes and I'll probably just put her on my permafreeze team like in this video with Ayaka, Kokomi and Kazuha. I always used Rosaria on that empty slot but Layla's gonna be better for both cryo application plus shield so it's perfect.
Layla's shield duration is equal to its CD about 12 sec. Some of the previews shield characters (except Zhongli) are terrible. Almost all of their shield duration are short and the CD are long.
I like her and her aesthetic goes well with Xingqiu. Easy pull. Although... OH NO! I run 2 accounts for testing purposes and I only ever build 1 character overall. And Xingqiu is on my account that has all the shields already.
I so so hope i will get at least a copy of Layla honestly,i love her design and kit concept plus i hate Diona and i used her out of need but i want to replace her ASAP and Layla is perfect for that.
