Holy caramel and coconuts Batman... this one takes the cake! Seriously this Lazy Daisy cake from the 1940's is INCREDIBLE!!!! Somehow, the sponge is soft and squishy and moist, and THEN you coat it in a coconut caramel candy icing!!!!!
If you try any of the recipes on this channel... do this one. Do it. You will NOT be sorry.
And... get this. IT WAS SUPER EASY!!! Had I not been filming it, the whole process would have taken me about an hour or less.
I cut down the recipe in the video to make a smaller version, but here is the full version from The Vintage Housewife. (A HUGE thanks to her for posting that so I could find it and try it.)

I like that you made a 1/4 size recipe. Great for those of us with small households. 🙂
@historicalcookingwithcourtney
Oh I'm glad that helped! I'm finding that making smaller versions of the recipes are also keeping me from eating the entire recipe by myself lol

Happy Birthday and glad you enjoyed that cake. I work at a store in NC where we used to sell homemade Lazy Daisy cakes made from True Lights down the street. I miss them sooooo much. I ate at least three servings a week! :)

It I so worth it. I make it all the time for park days for the kids co-op potlucks every month and it's one of the first things to go. It's pretty amazing

Happy Belated Birthday Courtney and best wishes for many many more. I am glad you enjoyed your birthday cake. That was a great idea making 1/4 of a cake. I love the frosting on a German Choc. cake and it is also on the Do Nothing Cake. Have a Blessed day. BTW I subscribed to your channel...this was the first time it came up in the side bar. I had heard about this cake back in the 50's but I don't think I made it, so I had to have a look. Glad I did. I think I will be enjoying future offerings from you.

Welcome to the kitchen! I'm glad you came by. Honestly if I had made the full cake I would have eaten it myself it was so good 😄 I hope you enjoy the videos to come, I have a lot of fun experimenting!

Thank you!! The frosting really made this cake and I'm tempted to just make a pan of icing for myself lol

this reminds me a lot about a cake we make a lot in Denmark, which we call "drømmekage" or translated: "dream cake" or "cake of dreams" :) Absolutely a favorite here and is a must at most kids' parties or social gatherings involving coffee and tea :D
@historicalcookingwithcourtney
Dream cake is a great name for it! And if it's anything like this I can imagine it's a favorite! I looked it up and it is VERY close in recipe...I would wonder since it's an old enough recipe if it this cake originally had Danish roots. I'm actually making a large one for a potluck next week because I loved it so much 🤗
