He did, however, present a valid explanation for his bias, even though he doesn't seem to understand it himself. He has seen more of the suffering in Ukraine, because that is considered news worthy by a biased media. We do not know whether he would take in a Yemenite family if having been equally aware of the situation in Yemen. He wants us to believe he would, and he wants himself to believe he would. Being part of the media, he is, off course, to some degree, to blame for the media bias. Still, he is to be commended for showing compassion. Selective compassion is still compassion. Helping one and not the other, is still helping one.

Andrew Castle really missed the point the guy was rightly making. Instead of being offended about the accusation he was biased towards Ukraine, he should have understood that there is no scheme to house refugees from other countries. And that is deeply rooted racism that the uk is built on.

He already took 3 refugees into his house. I'm not a specialist in generosity like you it would seem but I would say that that is pretty generous. Wasn't it a government scheme so he didn't have the option of choosing between Ukrainian and Syrian refugees. Now the more important question is how many Syrian refugees did John Barnes take into his house? And even more importantly how many Syrian refugees did you personally take into your house?
John Barnes is spot on. Andrew also goes back on what he said that he wasn't immediately "aware" of what was going on. But then states a minute later he actually knows a lot about what was going on in the middle east. Caught in his own web there. I've never thought about it before, but we do as a society assign different characteristics to refugees depending on where they come from.

I really do not think there is any appreciation of how overworked junior doctors are particularly when they are being expected to function as automatons under sleep deprived conditions when they work at weekends on shoestring staffing levels.
But it's not his personal bias, is it? It's created by the media and the hype (or lack thereof) surrounding each conflict individually. Barnes agreed to that.
