The definition of _old school_ is having the joystick set up for the right hand, _not the left_ -in defiance of what the Nintendo d-pad would make the universal convention.
I had that same exact game when I was a kid!! I liked how it relied on the level layouts to give a sense of variety - in addition to the moving and invisible walls the last levels posed quite a challenge when 'real' wall traversing ghosts were shown up!! When I finally learnt how the overall gameplay worked, I managed to overflow the scoring quite a few times (the last 00's blinked when the score was overflown) And I would also say that the start button worked like in many Pac-Man bootlegs, here you bashed it to make Pac-Man move faster...
@@GenXGrownUp yeah, they have a certain amount of retro vibe, that weird attraction that you can't resist to if you're addicted to vintage things already.
I actually had this lcd game when I was a kid, I remember playing it in the car on the way to Disneyland when I first got it. Man, I haven't seen that thing in so many years. I also remember that I was absolutely terrible at playing it lol.
I remember there was thousands of lcd gaming handhelds that came. Many of which i personally owned and played growing up. So many fond memories playing so many of them growing. Awesome video John thanks again buddy! 👍💯
I had one of the Coleco mini games from 1981 or whenever they came out as a 9 year old. I really liked it. It was great to play when I didn't have quarters for the machine.
You found quite the treasure. This reminds me of the Super Mario Bros. Game & Watch Nintendo put out in 1986. The platforms in that game were cross-screen and disorienting - I agree with you about the hunt in the wild; it's fun. I wish I had gone to Retrocon for the 2 days; I was overwhelmed and shocked at how time escaped me going through the hall. Next year.
Very cool! For my money, Grandstand's Mini-Munchman was a great Pacman style LCD handheld and it also had a digital clock! In your eye Nintendo ;-) Keep up the awesome work!
I like to think of them as “Pac Man spin-offs.” Or maybe in this case, “A Pac Man Joint by Micro Games USA.” :p Looks like a fun little LCD honestly, the scrolling factor and differing gameplay are interesting.
Very entertaining for back in the day or now. That's how those Basic fun ones should have been. I liked the Super Mario one it was so good i had it stolen off me.
Great Hat and cool find! That game would have gotten the best of me though … back in the day and now even. But that is on me and not the game 😂 I’m better at something like the old Coleco table tops than this type. But I’d definitely would have had to pick it up if I saw it and add it to my FanCave because it is very awesome my abilities not withstanding Thanks Jon 👊🏻😎🕹️
MGA's LCD games were kind of like Tiger Electronics games, but not as good. Strangely MGA would take a license, make a basic LCD game out of it and cram it into as many different shells as possible. I found this out while persuing different ports of Centipede, only to discover that they released what was essentially the same LCD game in different shells from 1997 all the way to 2012. I don't even understand why they kept doing it, they just did. I've identified at least 9 variations at this point. I imagine they did something similar for Pac-Man.
It's definitely an oddity but I love old LCD games. I've never found another MGA game in my life though. And as many as they made, I find that strange. MGA makes Rainbow High dolls now....
Don't forget the "powerful 4-bit processor!" Compared to what, exactly? Toasters? Tiger Electronics handhelds? Actually, I think even those are better than this. I had Tomytronics Pac-Man, myself. Pac-Man ribbets as he moves, he can't eat dots behind him, and the maze is wider than it is tall. The things we put up with in the early 1980s...
I heard you mention that you found blip...I used to crush my sister when we played that thing back in the day. Still have it! Any word on what's happening with the Gamestation Go?
