Welcome aboard for a 42 minute tour of WW2 Veteran Landing Craft LCI 713. See the inside and out from stem to stern of the restored 158 ft long 200 ton Landing Craft Infantry, USS LCI713. Built at Geo Lawley and Sons Shipyard in Neponset, Mass in late 1944, the 713 saw action in the Pacific as part of Flotilla 24, making combat landings at Zamboanga, RPI, and Brunei Bay, Borneo. LCI's were known as the "Waterbug Navy" and were employed for landing troops, providing close in gunfire support, smoke laying to screen the main force, and for inshore cargo carriers after the landings took place. See the restored ship that gives you an idea of what it must have been like to be on the smallest Navy ship able to cross the ocean under its own power. Located in Portland, OR and operated and maintained by the Amphibious Forces Memorial Museum, www.amphibiousforces.org, it is the prime example of this type of ship available for public tours.

Hello my name is Jack Wood. Served on a LCI-G-472 (Gun ship troop carrier). Work with the demolition team 11 days prior to invasion of Guam. Received the Navy citation award. My position, stood watches inside the engine room, operating the quad diesel engines. Also, manned the 40MM Bow pointer position. I was 17 years old back in '44.

Hello from one gater sailor to other gater sailors, I was on the Terrell county LST 1157 from 1960 to 1963 home ported in Japan I went aboard out of boot camp as a seaman and left a SFM2. it was a fun cruse. I real enjoyed the tour on the LCI713.

I went to see the 713 , my dad was on the 740 they had just opened up the emergency steering station which was my dad's position during general quarters, I wish he had lived to go with me God Bless all who served , very proud of you Dad , love you

I had a late friend who served on LCI(L) 74 at Biak and Finchaven he told me how they rolled in stormy seas. I am so glad that I got a chance to tour LST 325 with him a couple of years before he died.

My father was an officer at Solomons Island Amphibious Training Base in Maryland beginning in 1943. We lived in a house directly across the channel these and other landing craft used to go out into the Potomac River and onward. I was 7 at the time and thought that was the greatest adventure in the world, watching these ships come and go. Brings back some good times.

That was a real pleasure thank you for showing us around, and I agree, it is kinda neat. These types of tours by someone with a real knowledge of the ship is always more enjoyable and informative that someone just visiting the ship for the first time and filming their visit. Not that there's anything wrong with that it's just I find this sort of tour to be informative and detailed so thanks again, keep up the good work that saves this history for the next generation.

My dad, Kenneth J. Hahn served on LCI (M) 754 as a Machinist Mate on the Black Gang. They were at Luzon, Leyte City, Iwo Jima and Okinawa.

My Dad served on LCI(M) 362, it was a real treat for me to see what his station looked like as a flagman in the tower :)

in the sixtied I worked for a company that had two LCIs converted to salmon canneries. We worked in Bristol bay and around Yakatut. Very interesting to see how the ship looked in its original configuration. Don't know their original numbers, when I worked there one boat was called KAYAK and the other called Bearing. Compared to the round bottom fish boats in which I spent most of my time on the water, those hulls were very comfortable at sea, although we only skirted the coast and ducked for cover if heavy weather came our way. Fun memories.

My farther served with the Royal Navy combined operations on LCI(L)274. His landing craft landed troops on the first day of the Anzio beachhead landings Operation Shingle. He was very lucky, sadly the landing craft moored only feet away from his LCI(L)20 was destroyed by enemy aircraft

One of the few fully equipped LCI's in the U.S. Most are gutted. A friend once owned it and donated it to the local maritime museum.

Hi Richard.The LCI713 was certainly not "donated" by the former owner to the museum. We purchased it with a contract. The former owner got more money from selling it to us than he spent in purchasing it originally from the estate of the Salvor. We are happy to own it free and clear today.

Great to see you taking care of one of the grand nephews of the Gator I was on, USS Juneau LPD10. and they needed gobs and grunches of painting also. Keep up the good work reminding the public of what it took to ride one of those flat bottom river boats that went to SEA. We must have our heads examined one of these days.

Hello James, Thanks for asking about volunteering. We always are looking for them. Go to our website www.amphibiousforces.org and contact Rick Holmes our President. Or you can just show up and help out. We meet every Saturday morning at 0830 at the McDonalds on Swan Island and then go to the ship around 0930. You can pick from a list of stuff and work on whatever you enjoy doing the most. I think there are also limited opportunities to work on stuff not actually onboard the ship.
