Props to you for showing everything in the vehicle and on the cart, that's all important for me when considering new gear. I'd say 75% of my weddings I also need my ceremony rig and a speaker for that, and the fullness of your vehicle tells me that wouldn't be possible.
WOW!!! This is the first video I saw someone review these speakers, in my V-Moda headphones, and I could hear good bass from these subs. Thank You 🙏🏽. All the others sounded like woofers in a trash can, that lead me to believe these things were over hyped. Thanks!!!
A good option to add a good sounding limiter to the system to avoid too much clipping is to use a digital mixer like the presounus studiolive 16r has a really transparent limiter and it's only 1u rack space or the behringer Xair/x32 rack with the combinator effect, it's a 4 band compressor/limiter that sounds really good when tuned right!
As someone who goes to the gym, you absolutely need to get the casters for the Maui 44 G2s!! And if you’re getting booked in venues with a lot stairs, I would definitely recommend using a more lighter system for those type of venues. But overall, after using the 44G2s for almost 2 years, they’re probably the best column array system
These are my everyday drivers. I watched the video just to see what I can take away from what I already know. The shaking of column to take them apart was it for me. I always struggle to separate them. I give them a wiggle wiggle wiggle (whistle sound here) and they eventually come apart. The shaking technique in the direction you were going worked 👌🤙
Perfect review! I followed the same thought process as you especially with watching the limit flashing which happens on heavy bass songs. I go ahead and crank them all the way up on main and sub and watch my trim and bass knob more closely on the controller. Good thing is i run an external mixer to keep them all leveled. The way they disperse sound is awesome! The bass response is one of the mysteries because it greatly varies with which song versus a traditional 18 inch cabinet bass . Overall I love mine and been getting compliments from Clients and vendors every gig ! Thanks for the awesome review and can’t wait to see your next one
First, I would like to say, I love all your videos you doing fantastic job at it. Second thing I would like to predict is you are not gonna keep those Speakers more than a year lol they are huge heavy and I think you are just experimenting right now Until you find the right fit and the right Speaker for you. Because you have bought a lot of speakers already, and sold a lot of speakers already. And I don’t think those speakers are the right fit for you but time will tell we will see.
Agree! Nope not the right system for Aaron, max 1year and he gets tired of 44 G2´s heavy subs, only 2.75 lbs lighter or 97% of the weight of a RCF sub 8003 AS and thats a 18". But of course if he brings a roadie for every gig I could be wrong. But definitely these 44 G2s are something different than the light-weight "wanna-be-Jason-Jani" RCF TT system with dual 8" subs Aaron tried out. The Evox 12 is getting ooooold, but he has held on to the Evox J8 for a long time so maybe Evox 12s is the perfect fit, and now white is also standard. The RCF NXL 14-A (the brand new member of the NXL Active Column Speaker Series) combined with RCF sub 705 or 905 (57.32 lbs) also a super option vs the 44 G2 subs 80.24 lbs.
Thanks bro, appreciate that. These are soooo close. I do worry after a long night, looking at 80 pound subs might get tiresome at gig 45 lol. Having a roadie with might really help. For sure my 28s are gonna be the main pull this year. They did so good last year. These will be for those larger groups/room. We'll see, not a bad prediction though lol!
@J-DJ The 12s are on my radar. Trying to get one to run up against this one for a future video. My search is endless it seems to you guys lol, I kinda love it though. I love speakers, and getting new ones..the mrs doesn't like it as much shhhh
@@AaronStrawn.......and we all appreciate YOU wasting a lot of money on that "speaker-hunt" so we dont have to🤣 Everybody has diff criterias for the "perfect speakers", and reading the comments/commenting gives insight how different the priorities are, or look at Solstice young and strong dual 18" no problem, for me its absolut No go. In the end you´ll find the right system I´m sure - at least I hope so for the Wifey, she must be SO tired hearing about those damn speakers day in day out 😜I think you´ll end up with RCF´s, go on a trip to the RCF factory in Italy combined with 14days holiday in Italy - and you and your wife live happily ......... untill the next new column-array is revealed at NAMM.🤗
I have to agree with those that are mentioning getting caster kits for that heavy ass sub plus you can start transporting things on top of your sub & roll them easily to your car & save trips back & forth especially for when you work with an assistant, great review as always bro ✊🏽
Great video Aaron I’ve been waiting to see how you like them. They are the best investment I ever made. In fact, I sold my evolve 50s to get the Maui 28G3. Every event that I do when I do a large event with my 44s upwards of 300 guests in a large auditorium the sound is superb just like you stated in your video guests can have a normal conversation away from the Dancefloor. As Brian Redd put it in one of his videos about column arrays They create a hotspot on the Dancefloor.
Dude you crack me up!!! You are correct with that. I have the version below this one. The LD Curv 500 TS. And I save those for AV and really big groups. The LDG3s are the ones going out every week.
I had the LD Curve 500s. Great speakers but those subs were just 2 damn heavy. I’m a big guy, 6’4” 250 lbs at the time (232 now). Had to sell them. Evox 12s my man. That’s the way to go.
Bought these last year. Love Love Love them. For what I do (weddings and small parties around 100 to 150 people). I made my own wheel panels for the back as I thought the LD options was too expensive, but I had enough spare wheels, wood and tools to make them for zero dollars. The wood I used was too thin and I'm starting to get cracks around the wheels. I'm just going to use a cart going forward. Buy the LD caster board if you buy these, even at $200 a piece, they are worth it.. I don't think they are heavy at all, plenty of grip areas. Your set up is messy, clean up those wires 🙂
@@chadnliz2k11 I don't get the ripped off comment.?? I like them just fine, got the pair, white, new with cases and covers for 5K, sold my old QSC stuff for 4K. I'm good
They not harsh cause of where the horn is the crossover is likely pretty low like 800 hz 16khz between the column and the horn. This is the reason traditional PA sound better than column arrays. Allowing speakers to do what they prefer to do instead trying to do it all!
I love these, the look, the ease. I have these as well. Super sexy speaker. I push them hard too, and i have clipped them a few times. That said, while these are not 18" subs or 15" tops, they perform outstanding for most of my wedding and quinceaneras. For 300+ capacity venues, i take my two RCF 8003s and RCF Art745.
Hi again Aaron, 10:25 in the video did you remember to disable the AFS (feedback suppressor) in the QSC TouchMix? If not LD system has to give away a TouchMix with every pair of 44 G2s they sell in the future for the customers to achieve same result 😜
Get the roller casters that fit on the back you’ll still have to lift the subs in and out of your vehicle, but you can roll them into the venue. Unless rolling everything in one trip is super important. Just saying, they’re much easier to maneuver with the casters.
If you stack every feature, the sound, the portability, the look, dispersion, abilty and price the Bose 32's with sub 2s just make more sense. I'm bias, but used the 44's 2 seasons ago so i know how they compare. They are good speakers but for mobile use they gotta be better than just good because there's a lot to accomplish for the overall experience of ownership.
The Bose is waaay lighter and more portable for sure. The sub 2 redlining has spooked a bunch (including me). I'm looking forward to doing a shootout with both of these.
@AaronStrawn but imo the redline is more perception than reality, do you ever honestly feel it's not giving enough performance? I've done 2 350 person weddings with mine at 11 o'clock on the gain. They bump. Also I use either a Bose t4 or Soundcraft ui16 with them so everything has proper gain and plenty headroom. I like the 44's, but the 32s ultra wide dispersion, the smooth sound, the throw and weight just make it better for constant mobile use. You can do tons of events with just 1, not sure the dispersion on 44 can say the same.
Nice coverage, I did not know that about TWS either. Would be nice if there was a marker for line level on these. And you can use a compressor to make a low volume match a high volume. Not sure how to do it on anything other than my pc though
Hi Aaron, thanks for the review. I've been using the Rcf J8's and love them. Im considering upgrading. Would you say the Maui's are twice as loud? Is it worth the upgrade? I know it's not a fair comparison but I'd like to know if it's worth the price. Thanks buddy
You might want to invest on a cargo van or a trailer. Those speakers are to heavy to be lifted at every gig. The review was good. Pretty much what I already knew about the Mauis. I wish they come out with the G3 versions but more powerful
So have you officially worked out the clipping issue? I am thinking about buying some new speakers, currently run evolve 50's w/ an RCf TT dual sub. My current setup works great but the EV's don't throw sound far in long rooms. I own 4 of the evolve's to get around this. I would love a column array where I dont need a separate sub but can throw sound. Your video you went to the back of the room and it sounded like you could barely hear the speaker. Are these keepers or are you going to be selling in 6 months?
If you want a far throw, I think you need to get a point source speaker. The columns def dissipate as you walk away from them. The clipping on the 28s is fine (LD says this). Just don't run in the red
No adjustable pole...10 people in front of the column will reduce a lot the output. It's heavy expensive. For less Money you can buy rcf 8003 and nxl24 top .
I've got the Icoa 15A's right now. Love the sound LD offers so would love to stick to them. I'm not sure if I want the 44s or the 28s what's your opinion?
Go with the 44s if you don't want to worry about maxing out your headroom. The 28s are amazing for mid/small rooms and party sizes. I like having both!
@@AaronStrawn Thanks for your response! If only I could have both… I’m probably going to get the 28s as there gonna be best for transport and my venue needs.
Hey Aaron, I have 4 of these, two white and two in black and I do have the not a table signs on them LOL. I also got the LD lock on rolling wheels cart thing for them, game changer. These speaker are no joke especially for weddings sound and looks wise.
@@AaronStrawn I like the casters as they give the control panels a little traveling protection. These 44's chip easy and I thought about padding my Rock N Rollers but I haven't use them in years. I might have to break one of them back out again, not sure why I stopped using them.
The stickers help, but then they just piss you off even more when you watch a guest look RIGHT at the sticker and put their freaking drink on it anyway.
And some tracks are way more prone to clipping. Louder. Bass heavier. Lower bass frequencies and we can’t see the back of the speaker! Am I blowing this thing up??
Can someone please give the Maui 44 G2 subs a shot of Wegovy, for a 15" sub they are wayyyy overweight at 80.24 lbs vs 82.89 lbs for a 18" inch RCF SUB 8003-AS MK3 2,200W Powered Subwoofer
I bought and returned the Maui 28 G3’s good sound but not quite loud enough. I just got my 44’s yesterday…wow!! Yeah, the subs are heavy, as I just carried both to the basement to appease my wife😂 I blew out my testicles on the first sub so I had to find them and pick em up after I finished bringing down the second one. 😂
For the same price ($6000), you could buy 2 EV ETX tops, 1 18" sub and a digital mixer (QU pac) and it would absolutely destroy these and you'd never have to buy another speaker for 30 years. Everyone needs to chill about speaker stands. No clients care.
@@nodaysoff2005 have fun buying speakers every 3 years. None of my clients care what I use or what it looks like. I'm as high end as it gets where I am. Just learn how to use a mixer and any speaker system can sound great (just about).
Fair comparison. I mentioned this- the allure of columns is their sleek look and ease of set-up. That's why I love them so much. I will say- I get compliments by venues and photographers over them often. I like that because I have a soft ego that needs constant massaging lol
You will have huge problem when people will Dance Near the speakers. For huge parties db es 1203 will be better choice with adjustable pole to put Sound over the people. I have Maui g3 and the sound doesn't move through the guests on bigger parties: Sometimes audio quality is not the only right choice… You will push the limiter and it will not help you much
I'm hopeful because of how tall they are. Plus, spreading them out helps with this. I noticed my gig in December when the J8s were spread out, they punched through the crowd cause people weren't right in front. We'll see at the end of March!
Bottom line is people DO care about presentation and sleek look. In the wedding industry clean set ups matter. If it’s not for you great, move on, but stop trying to change peoples opinions about how a separate bottom and top is better. Not saying your wrong, just saying each business chooses how to represent their brand. This is an excellent choice for the wedding industry and hands down looks and sounds amazing.
Each have their pros/cons. I really wish I could get a little more out of the Sub 2, especially because of how light and portable it is as a 15"/18" sub
Dude I don’t know why you have that mic close to your mouth from what I’ve experienced you hold it at your waist and then pull out 2 feet from your body this is optimal for sound reinforcement 😂
I have got to say no thank you to this system. For starters the price is getting really high at $6k once you add in taxes. My EV 15SP subs weighs only 59LBS, compared to this sub at 80LBS. I run JBL EON 712'S as tops. I can't see how this Maui system can beat that. But I will may sell the 712's and get the JBL PRX 912's. Better DSP and +4db more output.
Did you just fking "beep"? Hahahaha. Nice job on the Aarnold voice. Sound effects...hahahahahahaha. The real thing that sets this apart for many is the size. Did you not get the casters that screw on the back? 80lbs is no joke for weight, but still a lot lighter than many other options. Not having a handle in the top really was a missed opportunity. 1, to avoid being a table. 2, to help with lifting.
The gator cart with the off road wheels is awesome for a cart. You will lose some space saving abilities with the off road wheels but you will hardly ever have any issues getting across any type of floor, even grass.
