today we make a quick prototype part for an rc car in the Syil X7. This video is brought to you by: Syil Machine Tools Houston , Texas 5800 Corporate Dr b5, Houston, TX 77036
Jay, check out American Metal Exchange for sheet titanium if you will be going that route, good prices. Also, super envious of your X7, that will be my next machine hopefully this year!
Great video Jay! For parts like these, we typically window machine them in 1 op but that method doesn't work all of the time as there's always a few tabs that needs to be removed by hand.
*Don't sell yourself short. That is the best idea. You could absolutely produce even detailed 3D parts on a cheap router. Just take light cuts and If you can devise a hard stop on your table in x&y for repeatability then you can also develop precise OP2 machining on the back side with using the tab method.*
With a flat side on the back, this would be a one op part for me. Maybe leave 0.001 stock and hit it on the sandpaper lapping plate to make it shine. Instead of using a bunch of vises and work offsets, I’ve started nesting parts like these in CAD and cutting them out of plate. I use the superglue and painters tape method of holding them down. I could setup a plate in the mill and run 300 of them overnight when I left the shop in the evening.
Hi Jason can i ask how your experience with the trt210 table is? Have you tried machining bigger things with it yet? I‘m on the verge of buying a vf2ssyt with a trt210 but there’s not much info out there on the trt210
