The first historical reference to Leça da Palmeira dates back to 1081 as Villa Fosse de Leza and at the beginning of the 13th century, there was already, in its parish, an important church whose patron was S. Miguel. From its tourist and cultural heritage, the Casa de Chá da Boa Nova, a work of architecture by Siza Vieira, built between 1958 and 1963, on the rocks and facing the sea; the Chapel of Boa Nova, founded in 1392 by the Franciscans as a chapel of S. Clemente das Penhas; the Chapel of Corpo Santo, erected in 1557, supposedly for the purpose of signaling the coast in order to avoid shipwrecks; the Boa Nova Lighthouse, the second highest on the Portuguese coast, operating since 1927; the fort of Nossa Senhora das Neves, probably completed in 1720, with the objective of defending the corsair population; Casa de Santiago, from the end of the 19th century, whose insertion site, which includes a museum, is known as Quinta de Santiago; Quinta da Conceição, which dates from the 17th century, and Piscina das Marés, designed by Siza Vieira in the 60s, which, being fed with sea water, is located on the rocks of Leça beach.
