But somehow a 935 won Le Mans in 1979, and the 936 was introduced to Le Mans in 1977 (which it won). The earliest 936 would not be faster than the final iteration of the 935. It all depends on the year and the particular car, and not all 936s would be faster than all 935s or vice versa. Tell your dad to clarify which particular cars.

Le 400m départ arrêté (calculé) en 9,98 secondes avec une vitesse de passage de 228 kmh). Porsche donnait pour la 936/78 le chiffre de 7,1 secondes pour 0-200 kmh. Thanks for posting this rare, wonderful footage of such great sounding cars. The 936 tends to get forgotten due to the 917 before it and the 956/962 after it, but still a legendary machine!
Always liked the 936. In coupe form it was also faster in a straight line up to about 1983. It was actually the first car to exceed 370 km/h (230 mph). The 956 was faster over the lap though because of ground effect and a much better chassis. Later versions were the Kremer CK5 and the Joest 936C. I probably like the open top car better though.
This is a pretty significant piece of racing history. The 3.0 turbo was never meant to race. Many cars were. The 935 (pictured in a few of these vids) But that was not. But the fact that privateers could take this car to the track and compete at this level was unheard of....
936's DNF in 1979: one retired due to technical issues, other (Ickx's car) was disqualified after receiving outside help. As per speed, they trashed 935's.
You do realize that you are talking nonsense right ? I have personal experience with racing Porsches for ~20 years, I sort of know what I am talking about. 936 had much better power/weight ratio in whatever engine it used (there were two different ones) and as for lap times, only Moby Dick could be anywhere close but only in La Sarthe and sadly it failed there. Please point me which 935-s had 4valve head? 4valve heads did not appear until 956 and even those used 2valve heads on many versions.
