Mozart is smiling. Such a wonderful and spirited performance by all. A better Le Nozze di Figaro I've not heard.

Aw, poor Ms. Hagley! The slip-up is funny at least and she plays it off! And what a great scene! I love the Glyndebourne version too, but I think this one's my new favorite!

Secondo me lei è perfetta in questo ruolo, come tutti i personaggi di questa splendida produzione, la mia preferita. Uno dei motivi della forza e dell'efficacia di questa rappresentazione consiste secondo me nel fatto che i cantanti spariscono dietro i personaggi, o per meglio dire, si integrano "a puntino" in essi; inoltre, la scenografia è familiare ma allo stesso tempo magica e misteriosa, come la musica di Mozart.

I like it. I prefer an opera that's well acted to one with perfect singing and little else. An opera is a stage performance, with a story to tell. I think some singers are better placed in a concert hall than on stage. Lovely performance.

this was my first version of le nozze and somehow i cant get it out of my head, i keep comparing everything else i hear to it; absolutely fabulous, thanks for posting

this a way better cherubino than any of the others I have ever seen! In my opinion, it is just as important to act in an opera as to sing: Good actors=good opera!!!!!!!

No one could ever compare to Flicka in this role. but, hey, give her a break. This has been done so many times that it's interesting to see a different spin on it! The confidence grows as the Countess becomes entranced...

The Mezzo Soprano in this video is Pamela Helen Stephen of the version of Gardiner.

I love watching this, though I must say it works much better in context -- seeing it as part of the complete production. In isolation, it's easy to miss the point: Cherubino -- having to sing before the Countess (whom he is in love with) and being rather unstable anyway with all the hormones raging in his teenage body -- is suffering from an acute case of stage fright. Which he gradually recovers from as the scene proceeds. The staging is ultra-realistic (watch the match between Susanna's "guitar playing" and the pizzicati in the orchestra).

I love this; it's totally reminiscent of a teenage boy with butterflies in his stomach. frederica von Stade might have a great voice, but man, is her acting a BORE to watch in this aria. Yeah Pam!
