one of the most things i love about sakura is that she acts like a guide to the members, even to chaewon, cuz she’s the unnie of the group. each time i watch these clips, i realize that she really takes the time to focus on all of her members. whenever she feels they’re hurt or sad, she senses their pain. whenever she feels they’re happy, she applauds them and shares their joy. i truly admire that and i’m really glad that i see that in her. ❤️
about the self-management part, sakura was upset that the company told off the members about their weight and diet! she was talking about how it was never a problem for them, it’s just that the company changed up the translations a bit so that it wouldn’t seem too obvious that the company was basically asking the members to lose more weight when they’re already skinny enough😭😭
That convo about the weight was mistranslated and they twisted Sakura's words. After fans who are fluent in Korean found out they clarified that Sakura was defending the girls and saying why they are being criticised for their weight when they are doing just fine. She never said the members 'should take it more seriously' and did not agree with what their managers were saying about them losing more weight. In fact she clarified that the members know how to take care of themselves and this expectation from the company of losing more weight is absurd. I hope it's more clear for y'all now :)
Sadly, the translation seems pretty accurate. If anyone translated she was defending other girls from the company, i dont think that person is like native fluent in korean. People get mad about this part, but its a reality.. and sakura has only seen so many members suffering from bad comments and gossips about their shape through her 15 years as idol.
yeah as a fluent korean speaker, sakura's translations are correct. and it wasnt about weightloss either it was more about self body management and the part abt sakura saying they should be doing it themselves is saying even if the company helps, the girls individually are responsible for their body management and how back in the days for sakura her old ent didnt assist on body management and let em do whatever and how it was an individual's choice to order a salad ( btw this doesnt mean it was less toxic bc asian culture in general love skinny people so youd get hated or less screen time if you dont look some type of way) and how she had to personally take care of herself without the ent's help and how hybe was so generous about helping them on body management unlike her old ent. people suspect the whole point of that was pointed for the ex member who was less skinny than the rest during the debut but who know?
Everyone in the comments already explained the whole Sakura vs company situation but I just wanted to clarify that when the other members jumped in they were basically telling the company they can manage their weight healthily and on their own, with their own choice. I think one of them even said if we feel like we need to have a salad one day we’ll make that choice on our own. Like everyone else said, it was a matter of translations that made it seem much more convoluted than it was. The girls unanimously pushed back against their need to lose more weight after Sakura stepped up and stopped the bs that one company guy was talking abt.
Yunjin said, 'Should I give up my dream because I'm Asian?' She can't change her race. But she can lose weight. One of the many efforts she makes to achieve her dream is to lose weight for her attractive body. Is that wrong? I know what you mean by saying that losing weight in K-pop is disgusting. But the reality is cold. Wouldn't it be regrettable if a rookie idol neglects her appearance because she has talent and doesn't succeed? They also have a desire to succeed, so they want to look slim on their own, not all because of the company's coercion.
Actually that convo about the diet thing makes a lot of fearnot angry specially fans who know the Korean language well and there is a lot of articles about how hybe mistranlate that part and make it like the members are thankful to the company for being helpful when in fact sakura is defending the members and she never said the "members should take this seriously" .
I can see what the company is trying to say. In Korea idols are attacked and bullied about their appearance all the time and they try to prevent the girls from going through that by being more strict with them. It’s fucked because they would still eat up a stage now and even with more weight but it’s they’re society that can’t get rid of those toxic Korean beauty standards. They same ppl trying to shit on the company are also some of the same people who love to criticize idols on appearance. Let’s Bffr
honestly i get where the company is coming from.. as much as I would love to say that it wouldn't matter what these girls look like, the moment they gain a little bit of weight, they will be criticized and body shamed by everybody.. that happened so many times before too.. I'm not saying it is right but I'm sure they realize it is better stay in shape than losing your fame and career due to few pounds
I feel like talent isn’t enough to be an idol. Let’s be real like half the appeal is the visuals. I personally don’t care about visuals, I guess it would be weird or AN ADJUSTMENT to see the industry be more inclusive cause we’re used to seeing idols a certain type of way. But I guess idrc, but overall I think A LOT of , if not majority of kpop fans really do care about visuals and sometimes that’s all they care about. And that’s a big chunk of the audience. So idk I don’t think it’s the companies faults either, like sakura said they just want what’s best for them, and fame and success is more important for them than healthy eating, otherwise they wouldn’t sign up for this. That’s the truth of it. Idealistically it shouldn’t be this way, but realistically … But like ALSO the girls are already beyond the standards so to push them further is just insanity. Sort of what starship is doing with wonyoung. They’re pushing her even more. It’s like FINE HAVE YOUR STANDARDS, but it seems like they’re just making it worse and worse. We’re part of the problem cause we’ve basically just hyped up Korean culture so much that we’ve almost just turned a blind eye to the toxicity of it and said YEAH YOU’RE DOING AMAZING WE LOVE IT. Like as far as these companies are concerned we’re obsessed with these images and ideals they’re selling us, so why would they stop. And people who do criticize are just background noise atp. But this is hypocritical of me to say cause I’m the same so … it’s complicated
Yeah the weight thing is disgusting. These girls weight from 97 - 103 at most which is absolutely insane. I get they want to keep an image for the girls but they take it way too far.
you guys misunderstood the sakura weight management thing a little bit. The company is basically telling them to be more skinny, and sakura stood up for the girls saying they dont need to stress about this and this shouldnt even be an issue because they dont need to diet. She is crying because she is mad the company is telling them to lose weight. Shes standing up for the girls
I have noticed you have said it before too about changing image thing and I personally believe your perception is so distorted about this topic Each group goes with certain image, a sound that will represent the group. For example izone used to have cutesy concept while le sserafim has girl crush concept. All members can have different personalities but they will go with image that suits WHOLE GROUP while performing, on stage they have one image. You called that 'acting' in the first episode or lying, no friend, that's PERFORMANCE. they're showcasing one side of their personalities on stage, one that matches whole team vibe. Chaewon hasn't changed, her performance requirement has changed. In last episode, you also said it's difficult to believe what's truth.. 💀 Truth is that behind the scenes, their personalities it's still same, they're still same person. Chaewon still act cute behind the stage but she is able to show sassy and fierce side on stage. In this episode when dance instructor said "if fans actually love you, they will be able to find charm in this new side" and you commented 'it's like saying fans have no taste' 💀💀💀 or 'liking rock instead of metal' like-?? How are you mixing genre of a song with concept? They're still kpop artist they just have changed their concept. The instructor meant if you are actually a fan and love chaewon as an artist or person, you will like all different side she will show of herself, cause again that side is NOT a lie, just something you didn't use to see.
