A lot of people said that The Great Mermaid is a title track worthy. But imo Fearless gives more title track vibes while The Great Mermaid gives more b-sides (Fearless fits the concept more than TGM). But overall both sounds amazing
yunjin and chaewon wrote some of blue flame and that is just so iconic that they have credits right from debut! but honestly every song is just so easy to listen to!
My favorite track is "The World is My Oyster." It's visceral, gritty, industrial, mechanical, and cold. And the narration is superb! I could have loved The Great Mermaid, but it lost me in the chorus. Sour Grapes is a great track, too. It oddly reminded me of STAYCxRedVelvet and idk why. I'll be stanning LE SSERAFIM 100%. There's something unusually different about them and their concept which makes them stand out from the crowd. But knowing they're from HYBE, I'll be lowering my expectations a bit in terms of music, since music from HYBE is kinda hit-or-miss for me nowadays.
i'm so excited for more: sakura: vocals and centre time chaewon: killing parts yunjin: high notes kazuha: very hybe-esque raps AND dance garam: vocal colorrrrrr eunchae: screentime and deep vocals what a promising group!! i love them so much and they already have this much potential when they just debuted
So far blue flame is my favourite just because of the verse ‘Will-O' The-Wisp babe, Oh baby It's blue flame. Will-O' The-Wisp babe, that that that is faction” It won’t get out of my head
IMO this debut focus on creating their own signature sound/concept. Vocally, not proven to their skills HOWEVER, vibe and concept-wise is very unique and different from other groups
LOVE THE REACTION!! THAT RUN ON SOUR GRAPES THO?! I HOPE WE MORE OF THEIR VOCALS ON THEIR NEXT ALBUM AND SONGS. MY FAV BSIDES ARE GREAT MERMAID AND SOUR GRAPES.
I definitely agree that it would be cool to get a bridge in the other songs, but I for some reason feel relieved that their concept isn't extra and "experimental" to the point where they're doing too much. I'm excited to see this group grow into their own skin!
This was a great debut album! Can’t wait to hear more from these girls, seems like a very promising group ☺️ 1. Sour grapes 2. Blue flame 3. Fearless 4. The great mermaid 5. The world is my oyster (it was giving me fashion runway vibes, i was living for it 😌)
"the world is my oyster" would probably be my favorite track if it was longer and more of a fully formed song but it's missing a bit of something for my brain to register it as a true bside and not just an intro. i hope theyll try that sound in a full song at sone point. "the great mermaid" i expected those starting synths to drop out when the verse started but they got even more intense and stayed through and i love it. also love the distortion on the vocals. "sour grapes" i NEVER expect the slowest song on an album to be my favorite, HOWEVER... despite no one from monotree being on the credits it feels like it could easily be by them. i suppose its because the strings & bossa nova vibes since they use that often. i just love that sound so much especially with kpop girl group vocals.
I was really disappointed with TWIMO. The bits of it we got in teasers and the medley had me excited. Seeing an intro that's nearly 2 mins long, I really expected them to build out the sound but they... didn't. At all. The addition of the voiceovers was cool and all, but the production went nowhere. When they concluded the series of voiceovers with "Fearless" my brain was like AND NOW WE GO BIG... except they didn't, just restarted the same old riff. Really frustrating for an otherwise golden album, but at least it's just the intro.
@@Takran As to the "monotony," I can kinda feel like HYBE nowadays is creating songs that lack peaks and valleys. This applies to the title track as well. It's not that it's a bad thing, but k-pop is unlike "plain, featureless" music. K-pop is supposed to be full of dynamics and peaks and valleys. But recently, HYBE seem to be bent on creating "bland", short tracks that may be considered "harmless" or "easy-listening." Again, it's not a bad thing, but I can't help thinking that HYBE may be catering towards bigger audience outside the k-pop niche. Examples are: ENHYPEN's Drunk-Dazed (relentless beats all throughout that may sound monotonous), ENHYPEN's Tamed-Dashed (straight-up 80s new wave track), ENHYPEN's Blessed-Cursed (plain trap-rock sound with no bridge and has short running time), TXT's radio-friendly emo-punk tracks, etc.
@@triadriangle i don't know if i fully agree with this. i can't really think of anything to say about the other songs i guess, but theres no way Drunk-Dazed was made to appeal to any sort of larger audience, the whole song is very distorted and the bridge especially more so (best part of the song imo), basically the opposite of radio friendly, i'm surprised it was even a title track at all.
@@pinktapes I apologize for being equivocal and all over the place. I think what I meant was Drunk-Dazed is kinda a straightforward track compared to the more dynamic sounds found in most of k-pop landscape. Even from the start, Drunk-Dazed already had these relentless beats that stayed consistent all throughout the song. While there may be mini drops (mini peaks and valleys) here and there, especially in the chorus, and the dramatic ascent in the pre-chorus, it's not as complex as the beat switch-ups found in other songs, especially in SM's r&b switch-ups, or the infamous trap breakdown found in a lot of groups. I didn't mean to say that Drunk-Dazed is radio-friendly. What I really meant was it stayed true to its genre, which is sort of like a 90s Euro-rave or something, which, in itself, is not an "easy listening" type of music. The producers did not experiment with it that much, and gave us a very straightforward, "what you see, is what you get" track. Compare this with other songs (example, SM songs), where 2 or 3 genres are incorporated into a single track. While both approach are enjoyable in my opinion, I think HYBE is going for the more straightforward, simpler approach to music production, compared to the usual "throw everything into a blender" approach found in the usual k-pop sound. That's just my observations though, and I could be completely wrong. Thanks.
i personally don't think songs need an extra oomph to be very good. these were chill songs with such a beautiful subtlety to them and a lot of repetitiveness so that they will stick, and imo i loved them, and think the sound suits the 'model' theme they had going on
I think my rank would have to be: 1. Sour Grapes 2. Fearless 3. Blue Flame 4. The World is my Oyster 5. The Great Mermaid I love them all tho, they're all in my playlist lol!
I’m not gonna lie for me Blue Flame was IT!!! It was just such a fun, groovy and soothing song. I enjoyed the vibes it gave. My Rating: 1. Blue Flame 2.Fearless 3. The Great Mermaid 4.Sour Grapes 5. The World Is My Oyster
am i the only one who things blue flame sounds SOOO much like night aviation by gwsn?? like the key, chords, progression, etc. lots of ppl have said american boy too ahaha truly a superior trifecta
i love all of their songs because they are all right up my alley, so i can't rank them properly. but if i have to it will probably be: 1) sour grapes 2) the great mermaid 3) blue flame 4) fearless 5) the world is my oyster
my ranking: 1: Blue flame 2: The great mermaid 3: Sour grapes 4: Fearless 5: The world is my oyster one of the only albums where i like the bsides much more than the title track lol
If you're interested you should check out Le Sserafim's debut trailer because the album's intro is used there except it's a longer version and it has an insane beat switch at some point! Like I wished they had included that part in the album's intro cause it hit so hard! Maybe you'll like that version as well!
I think for the reason they cut that switch because if it was put in the album the vibe of the album would be then be doubt as 'confusing' because judging from the intro that has the 'switch part' people would then assume the songs to balance with it which it would not because the other bsides including the tt has kind of a laid back ptoduction
The World Is My Oyster - sexy Berlin night club vibes/ fashion runway track. Sour Grapes a quintessential soft kpop ballad pop song, reminds me of a lot of gen 2 kpop songs I liked. These are my two fave!
Before I even watch this reaction, thank you. And Sour Grapes is my favorite b side track alongside Fearless. Chaewon my bias wrecker (short bob cut hairstyle) And Yunjin is my bias. (Long brunette main vocalist) from produce48.
I hope the simplicity in structure and lack of zhuzh was intentional. Like it's good, but it's not where it could be at ? Idk maybe it's a statement on music doing too much in 4th gen's experimental music phase, hopefully because I honestly wish there was a bit of a kick to the album 😮💨
Sour Grapes is good but idk. I think HYBE purposely gave us a really subtle yet interesting songs. Ngl I only like Sour Grapes and Fearless, its just. Idk. The anti drops are just too stagnant and repeating and no showcase of how good of a vocalist Yunjin and Chaewon, no amazing rap lines and idk. Their next comeback will be crucial for this group atleast for me cuz as an Iz*one fan, I do expect alot and theyre also under HYBE
Some of HYBE's music nowadays are Kinda lacking some oomph, They do a lot of bangers but then some were like "okay". LE SSERAFIM didn't dodge this one but then it fits with their group Identity (for now). KINDA generic and I still want to HYBE to spice it up more than just a few B-sides and Title tracks. Waiting for what they have in store for Le sserafim in the future.
you either react to the most boring groups or groups like this which are quite interesting its hard to understand what your music taste is because you don't make bts, blackpink, or enhypen reactions which are really good groups, idk if you genuinely like those underrated groups you reacted to or you just feel bad that they're not that popular
I literally have bts tattooed on my arm and a playlist full of their reactions wtf are you talking about? And most boring groups? To who? You do realise music is subjective? Weirdo. There are literally only 2 popular groups that I choose not to react to, you’re not even making any sense. Why would I spend hours reacting to music, breaking down the music production and expressing how much I enjoy songs if I didn’t actually like them. You do realise good music isn’t measured by popularity and what you consider “boring” is not to me and others. You’re literally questioning the authenticity of my reactions because I choose not to react to 2 popular Kpop groups? Grow up.
I completely agree with what you're talking about. I felt the same about the title track and the mermaid. Just needs an extra oomph. But overall yeah it's a very chill listen . Very 90's early 2000s Kylie Minogue meets pixies vibe is what I feel
