I was fortunate to be chosen as one of the usherette in this concert. Watching Lea Salonga every night for free and getting paid too! Awesome experience 💗
This was in December 1990, after more than a year of playing Kim in London. Five months before Miss Saigon opened in Broadway. Lea was singing for the first time before the Filipino public in a concert that was shown on TV in January 1991. We had all known her, of course, as the little girl and teenage star, but in this concert she was singing as a young woman coming home successfully from London (her second visit home). And many Pinoys at this time were not that familiar with the songs from Miss Saigon. No Internet. Many Pinoys could not afford London tickets, or even the CD and cassette tape of Miss Saigon. Besides Sun and Moon and Last Night of the World, many Pinoy sdid not know the rest of the Saigon soundtrack. This show, this concert was the first time where we heard Lea sing Miss Saigon songs, with that magical voice. Life was very simple for many Filipinos then. Lea here sings Simple Lang Ako. But so was the rest of the Philippines--in the economic sense. Simpleng pamumuhay of the late 80s to the 90s.
I was an american serviceman stationed in Subic Bay with my family when this homecoming concert was on TV and I recorded it. For years we would play it for our guests to show just how extraordinary Lea was... and they all loved it. Our copy was lost in 25 yrs of traveling around the world so I have been checking back here many times hoping someone would put this online. Thanks so much for this tape. She still brings me to tears.
I got hooked when lea won the tony. I still am today.. I never got tired watching her over and over again. As i' ve said before and i' ll say it again.she is world- class
I watched this on tv (it was in GMA channel if I'm not mistaken). I'm here for Robert Sena. I remember the audience gave standing applause for him! Well done. A truly Pinoy singer. I'm from Jakarta Indonesia & Makati was my hometown for 5 yrs. Mabuhay!
i was still in highschool when I watched this with my aunt, uncle and sisters. I was so hooked on ms.saigon thats why I insisted to watch cause she really is an icon to watch and it was one of the lifetime experience. she is definitely one of the best we have,
thank yu for sharing, I renember watching this on tv part of it n feel so happy finally see Miss Lea performed until now I am a avid follower, congrats Lea...!!!
We were so excited to watch this concert on tv back then. Lea came back from London and this was her much awaited concert for us. We didnt have a video to record this from tv so we recorded this concert in a cassette tape. Then we kept playing that cassette over and over and singing along to Lea's voice. It's so good to see this concert again here. She's so young - just 19 and already made a mark, energetic, full of zest and still has a promising career ahead of her. Thank you for uploading this. This is my first love of all Lea's concert. And first love never die. So this is for me her most unforgettable concert.
Same here.Had happy memories with this concert. I think the witer of this concert was the Tessie H. Tomas? The stage & tv director was my friend the late Kokoy Jimenez.
Wow I've bern watching Lea's concerts via RU-vid, a concert marathon, so proud of her ❤ Watched her on Broadway for the first time in NYC the 'Allegiance 'wow she definitely owned the stage
Thanks Romel for posting this. Surely brings back memories (saw it live at PICC), and watching this makes one remember why we became fans of this extraordinary Miss.
Leah is only a Filipino who was acknowledged by the British people.when I had my masteral in London I still saw the poster of Lea in Prince Albert theater even in Brighton when I stayed with my friend
Oh wow! Yesss! I’m glad I found this concert. I used to watch this on my vhs daily for years until I lost it in our move. Brings back good memories. Thank you Sir’
19:08 to 29:35 31:00 to 33:55 1:04:20 to 1:08:35 Hoping that someday someone will upload this separately. These are my favorite songs on this concert and plan to convert them to mp3 audio so I can just upload it and play them on my phone
Watched ds live at the PICC. P500 ticket for middle aisle.. Most xpensive one was 2k i think.. Well worth it. Fantastic show, numerous standing ovations
What year was this concert again? It's just amazing that she already sang the songs that will be part of her future, like On my own, I dreamed a dream, sana maulit muli, etc. Amazing how she manifested everything.

Little did she know that 10 years later Robert (as Thuy in MS manila ) would intentionally slapped her on stage in the middle of the show without letting her know.
