Lea portrayed as Kim in Miss Saigon Musical for so many years and this song is one of those epic songs in that musical wherein she sang this song by heart multiple times that is why Lea is so amazed of Rachelle’s performance in this song ..

This performance was during the 25th Anniversary of Miss Saigon in 2016. After the main show which started 30mins early, came the 30mins special show where this performance happened. It was a very special show that I will never forget. My friends queued over night to get us tickets. Cameron Mackintosh learned about people queuing for the night and served coffee and bread next morning. Luckily my friends managed to get our tickets. Price sale of the ticket was the same price 25 yrs ago, yes same price!! Inside the theatre, each sit has a special Miss Saigon souvenir programme. On each aisle was plastic flute glasses. At the end of the main show, ushers brought champagne bottles like there is no tomorrow. I think i had the bottle for myself hahahaha. It was a brilliant 30mins special show seeing the original casts performing. One of the shows i will never ever forget.

There was actually an interview before on Lea to whom can she pass the legacy of Filipinas in global musicals and she answered either Rachel or Sarah. I am glad that Rachel pursued it ❤

No its not a Lea Salonga show. Its the anniversary (concert) of the play. They just performed together.

No matter how many times I watch this one, I always have goosebumps.

One of the comments have already informed that this was after the main show. In the main show, the revival of this megahit musical, Rachelle portrayed Gigi, the same character she performed in this video, which also explains her outfit, while Lea was the original Kim in this same performance. Lea also did a duet with Simon Bowman in this gala performance with their revival counterparts Eva Noblezada and Alistair Brammer. Before the show, Cameron, Alain and Claude Michel (THE producer, lyricist and composer respectively) gave a thumbs up to Rachelle in doing the riff, which eventually turned out to be very phenomenal. I am sorry if I focus too much on Rachelle, although I give musical theater discipline and most-well trained credits to Lea, but maybe because I have outgrown being a fan of hers since I was nine years old, same age as her when she was still starting in the local showbusiness (having been able to watch her in her own show, Love, Lea at a very young age, a late afternoon show on PTV 4), and the rest was history, and of course now she's a legend. But when I became a fan of Rachelle, I had a 360 degree turn from being a Lea fan to a Rachelle fan. Simply because Rachelle has a very broad, more amazing and multi versatility of talents compared to what Lea is capable of. There should be no comparison at all, because Lea had a lifetime musical theater training whereas Rachelle only had 5 musicals as feathers in her cap, but with only a very short period of time, she had showcased as if she's a theater actor veteran, not to mention her WhatsOnStage Award, among others. So, please stop comparing her with Lea's theater aura in all her performances because she was born literally as a musical theater actor (although at first she had ballet, piano lessons and a fortune telling prediction of being Miss Universe - well, she became Miss Saigon instead). If Rachelle was born the same way, I betcha she would've bagged multiple Tony awards, not just one. Well, I would boast of her being included in the First Burn Hamildrop music video which debuted and peaked at number 1 in iTunes U.S. in 2018 making her the FIRST PURE FILIPINO recording artist to reach number 1 in the U.S. music chart. It also charted on Billboard digital songs chart. Having said that, I hope you, Ovela, wouldn't mind reacting to Rachelle's Burn or First Burn. I think this was an anniversary special of Miss Saigon. So it was a combined performance of the original cast and the current (at that time) cast. Rachel is playing Gigi and is in costume while Lea is playing Kim's part, but not in costume.

One of the things i love about Lea is shown in this clip... She is VERY generous with her fellow artists. She celebrates the excellence of those with whom she performs. Rather than display an entitled diva attitude ( like so many artists in America ... a very unattractive quality to be sure - and all too often undeserved!!!) she reacts with enthusiasm, joy, encouragement, and excitement. That is so very generous and makes me respect her, love her, and appreciate her. America over the last 30 years has slowly - embarrassingly slowly- has begun to recognize the EXTRAORDINARY talent the Philippines is overloaded with. It is disgusting in the extreme that so many of these ultra-talented people are passed over for roles because they are asian. It infuriates me. The world is impoverished when talent is ignored. The world is made better when everyone's talent is given a chance to shine.These women are incredible!!! Give them every chance to shine ... not because they are Asian, but because they are DESERVING, because of their stellar talent and hard work.

Two amazing women. They sang in unison (not harmony) (sorry) untiil the very last note, but they are so in sinc with each other that when they are together, they sound like one person. Lea got some flack for "breaking character", but come on - it was a concert, not a theatrical performance, and they're allowed to break free in the moment! And yeah, Lea's appreciation for that moment gave me chills, too. Thank you for this one. You came to it prepared (a must, I think, for out-of-context performances), and knowledgeable. You made it even more enjoyable to share! ♥

Rachelle Ann Go won in a singing search competition here in the Philippines hosted by Regine Velasquez. Leah Salonga convinced rachelle to auditioned to Ms. Saigon. So you see Rachelle got the range of regine and cristal voice of Leah.

Miss Saigon is now playing in Manila. You can watch it if you have time since you are coming to the Philippines this May.

This was a concert so Rachel had been given the director more freedom.; she added a couple of notes during the climax. It actually made the music more pleasant to the ear. I, too, did not understand fully the beauty of Lea's singing in broadway before. But now, I think I know why peo[e who love broadway love Lea. Rachelle used to be compared with Sarah Geronimo: Sarah won the "Star for a Night" singing concert in 2003-2004, Rachelle, champion of "Search for a Star". Sarah's apologist may hate me but, Rachelle is really a better singer than Sarah. But Sarah's popularity among the Filipinos is surely way ahead of Rachelle probably because she is not just a singer, she is a total performer and an actress.

Definitely go see a musical! And get good seats because you need to see the performers' faces because it makes a world of difference. You'll be blown away. Watch Wicked; that's a great musical for an intro to the musical theatre world. It's funny, inspirational, and heartwarming, and tells the other side of the Wizard of Oz and the Wicked Witch of the West! Morisette did a cover of the biggest song of the show Defying Gravity. Hi Ovela. Thanks for the respect for the musicale performers. Briefly, I love OPERA (but popular opera singers do not sing EVERYDAY during the scheduled performances). With musicales (Broadway and West End are prime examples): the casts perform @8pm, 6 days a week PLUS matinees @2pm, usually Wednesdays and Saturdays. Those are a total of 8 shows in 6 days. The EXCEPTION in "heavy" roles like "Kim" in Miss Saigon or "Christine" in The Phantom of the Opera_ their ALTERNATES perform during the matinees. Thank you.

Rachel Ann Go also played and sung in the Miss Saigon after Lea Salonga thats why they sung the same both.

This is from the 25th anniversary of MISS SAIGON in 2014. (There was a special performance after the show.) The two women aren’t singing the song exactly the way it is done in the show - the verses are split up a little differently here and Rachelle Ann’s riff wasn’t in the show. Plus, Lea is not singing the song as an innocent 17-year-old Kim, but a more adult woman.

The difference in outfits is due to the fact that this performance was performed in the theater right after the 25th year anniversary musical Miss Saigon. Rachel Ann Go was part of the cast that evening in the character of Gigi a Vietnamese prostitute and in the show she sings The movie on my mind with Kim. Rachelle therefore still had wig and stage makeup while Lea was the guest of honor at the Gala because she was Kim in the original 1989 cast
